Why ‘adaptation’? S  Mitigation? Adaptation?

S  Climatic change & extreme weather events are increasing

S  Stranded and suspended assets, risks and impacts will all become more prevalent in the absence of addressing climate change impacts, extreme weather risk and UN Goals e.g. SDGs and Paris Agreement

S  Climate change impacts and extreme weather may or may not be material to a business or municipality – in either case, positions should be based on analysis (not gut feel) – i.e., avoid Management by Disaster

S  Guidelines, Standards and Codes are highly important in reference to extending action on climate change and SDGs establishing/quantifying verifiable risk mitigation effort(s)

detail

ü Choice, flexibility: determining what is important is up to the user

ü Guidance on tools, adaptive capacity, systems thinking given – not detail!

S  Enables tailored solutions, not ‘one size fits all’

more detail than ISO 14090 can!
