Dear Friends, We are grateful at FLS to have so many fun things going on over the next few months! This autumn is jam-packed with opportunities for you to engage with us and make a difference in the lives of the families we serve. We hope to see you this year at The Colorado Pumpkin Patch on our sponsored days, attending our Comedy Night with John Crist on October 29th, or maybe it will be on our property helping us prep for the beautiful fall blanket that coats our lawn every year. Perhaps it will be through registering to become one of our family sponsors for Christmas. However you want to get involved, this newsletter is filled with ways to get you plugged- in. We have multiple Women of Courage and resident families in transition. Many moms are graduating from our program this fall, and some of them will continue to get the extra support they need though our professional counseling services or our Women of Courage opportunities. But if you only read one thing in this quarter’s newsletter, skip to the back page would you? There we have a special story of one of the moms we have served that ties the why behind we do what we do so beautifully. And we could not do it without the Lord and friends like you. Thank you for making it all possible. Blessings, Julie Abel Executive Director Exec. Director Update . . . . . . P.1 FLS Comedy Night . . . . . . . . . P.2 Pumpkin Patch . . . . . . . . . . . . FLS Impact Story:

Growing up in a Christian home, Allison always felt as if she knew the Lord. Upon graduation of high school, she set off for college. She met a young man and they soon fell in love. Right after getting married, her husband fell into the trap of drugs and alcohol. They became pregnant and had a child all within less than a year. Allison tried to make the relationship work, but soon realized that for her own safety and the safety of her child, she needed to leave. Allison’s desire was for reconciliation, but unfortunately, her husband was not getting better. In fact he became abusive and the drug use got worse. After some time went by, several friends had recommended she looking into the programs offered at Family Life Services once she finalized her divorce. After all that she had endured, Allison was very angry with God.

Throughout her time at FLS through our programs, participating in weekly Bible studies with a Bible study mentor, Allison now feels completely different about her relationship with the Lord. She views Him as her father, provider, and the husband that she needs right now. She also feels safe while participating in the opportunities available to her at FLS. Something she hadn’t felt in a long time.

Allison is quick to point out that the wisdom she has received has changed her life and that the staff is “great, very consistent, very available,” and that they make each mom feel like and aware that they are in a “safe place”. She feels that she has more stability in her life and emotions, working long hours, and making a better life for herself and her child. One of the most profound things that she has learned at FLS is this: “You can choose to be a victim [of your circumstances or past] or you can be victorious and overcome.” Allison is now on a path that is grace filled and stable. Praise God for His faithfulness in her life!

John Crist was homeschooled. Most comics make fun of homeschoolers, not Crist. He’s always said it was the goodest thing that ever happened to him. Crist’s unique brand of stand up comedy comes highly touted as the winner of the 2012 Denver Improv’s Got Laughs Competition, winner of the 2012 Loonees Comedy Competition.

Son of a preacher and one of eight children, Crist emerged onto the national comedy scene in 2010 when he was invited to open for legendary standup comedian Louie Anderson on the Las Vegas strip.

John Crist’s imaginative, clean comedy makes him a crowd favorite in comedy clubs, corporate events, colleges and churches across America.

Christmas at FLSYes, we know it is only Otober . Christmas is still months away. But in reality, that’s not all that long! And at Family Life Services, Christmas is a really big deal, so we are getting ready now.

Every year, we seek individuals and/or groups who want to sponsor the families in both our resident and Women of Courage programs. Sponsors receive a personalized Christmas List from the family they are matched with and given the amazing and rewarding opportunity to fill up the space under the family’s Christmas tree with much-needed items.

This year, we have 34 sponsorships available! That means 34 families are going to be blessed this year by the generosity and love of people in the community. Sponsors will receive their family’s Christmas List by November 1st. Families are matched quickly, so if you or your church/social group are interested in being part of this wonderful experience, please contact us today via email or phone.
