From the directorrsquos desk October was Arts amp Humanities Month ndash a chance to highlight and celebrate the arts around us Regionally the month began with an Artist Studio Crawl in Fargo which featured artists in 41 studios These artists are changing Fargo from the look of downtown to the dynamics of commerce The arts impact communities in unique ways and are not solely concentrated in larger cities In Jamestown artists range from those working in ceramics glass fiber wood photography traditional arts and two-dimensionshellip if you saw the JFAA 49th Annual Show you were introduced to some of them Collectively these artists may not (yet) have the significant impact seen in Fargo but the Jamestown Fine Arts Association (JFAA) does JFAA has received a grant from Arts Midwest to begin the process of redefining our community A pretty bold statement ndash but an accurate one We have already altered the face of downtown with the renovated Arts Center development of the Hansen Arts Studio and beginning of an Art Park With this grant we have the opportunity to be a significant driving force in downtown revitalization and community growth The grant for Art Park planning and development will allow us to hire a facilitatorplanning consultant to help gather information during several community meetings a landscape architect to transform our ideas into a plan and an illustrator to draft final renderings of the space

Physical spaces help us define who we are reflect what we value tie us to place and help us celebrate beauty Just imagine what a professionally developed artistically designed space in the middle of downtown can say do and be In the next few months we will be convening these community conversations Everyone interested in making an investment in the future of Jamestown should attend one send an email give us a call or deliver a list of suggestions you have for this Art Park project Together we will imagine the possibilities and transform a once burned out plot into an attractive welcoming green space downtown
