the crowd and was just hoping to put on a good show. “During his hit ‘Starting With Me,’ many held up their cell phones as the crowd sang back every word of the song,” Gale says. “You could see that Jake was moved. As the song was coming to an end, the band actually stopped playing. Jake stepped forward and continued acoustically, singing a verse I had never heard before. This new version ended with lyrics that caused an explosion of applause and emotion: ‘To all my friends out there tonight looking at me, I’ve got to thank ya’ll, personally, for keeping us free.’ When Jake came off stage I confronted him about that moment. ’Did you plan that?’ I asked. His reply was classic Jake. ‘Nope,’ he said. ‘It kind of just happened up there.’”

CRB: Size Doesn’t Matter Or at least that’s what the initial CRS 41 agenda look seems to say about market size. Next year’s panel topics stress relevant and usable info for stations in all types of markets. Other changes include dispersing Sales panels across the seminar’s three days, rather than the traditional “Sales Day,”

My Tunes: Music ThaT shaped My Life Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry discusses his most important songs, artists or concerts: 1) Jim Croce/Have To Say I Love You In A Song: It was the first song I ever got paid to perform. I think I was 16, and a friend of my father’s asked me to sing it for his gal.2) Charlie Daniels: A concert well worth seeing if you want to be entertained. As a performer, I love to see how he interacts

with his fans. It’s a must-see show.3) Kiss: This was my first concert and I loved the theatrics. They’re very eye-catching and keep your attention. It’s highly entertaining for all the obvious reasons.4) Kiss, Alive: After seeing them in concert, I bought this album and listened to it for weeks non-stop. My brother, a couple of neighbors and I would dress up like Kiss and put on concerts in the yard to this album.5) Aerosmith: Another great must-see show, one of my all-time favorites. I have always been a fan and love to see them live. It is intense rock ‘n’ roll from start to finish, full of high energy. • A highly regarded song or album you’ve never heard: The Wall by Pink Floyd. Although, I have heard and know the title track, I’ve never heard the whole album.• An album you played or listened to incessantly: Nickleback’s new album, Dark Horse. It’s just a great album to rock out to.

and limiting simultaneous panels to three. CRB Agenda Chair John Paul explains, “This year we made a conscious effort to reassess our agenda and structure it in such a way that would allow attendees to see more of the panels.” Already on the schedule are: Wednesday’s (2/24) Universal Music Group luncheon, KCRS Live! and Music City Jam hosted by Taylor Swift, with panels including “The Taylor Effect,” a look at successful marketing strategies for Swift’s career. Thursday’s (2/25) Sony Music Luncheon, BMI/Country Aircheck’s WCRS Live! and panels including “So You Think You Know How To Do An Artist Interview? You’re Wrong!” and “The Great Playlist Debate: Can Passive Be Passionate?”
