Happy HolidaysE N J O Y Y O U R T I M E W I T H F A M I L Y A N D F R I E N D SIt’s the season to be jolly, fa la la la la la la la la. We hope you all have a merry, fun-filled holiday and a Happy New Year. Keep safe on your travels.

The global economic recession impacted on our market this year. However, many factors consistently impact our market – so we don’t want to use that as the excuse for lower productivity. If companies are recruiting, which they continued to do during this time, then we should be placing.

Our formula was to stick to the basics while making sure that we achieve high activity of referrals, send outs and interviews. Always making sure that clients are meeting with great candidates and the candidates have a choice. The primary benefit of this formula is that when the client is recruiting they will contact you first because the quality of your candidate should always distinguish you from your competitors. The early bird always catches the worm!

No matter what’s up or down in the market, I have always maintained that keeping high activity produces an ensured target. It is the stress free way of running your desk. However always make sure that your quality is as good as your quantity.

How do you make sure that you keep your activity flowing? Your first step is to interview a minimum of two candidates daily as this keeps your funnel full. One needs not onlyto interview for specs but also for candidates to market. If you are always interviewing,

this creates momentum and speed and the busier you are the more exciting it gets – a fast pace is essential. HealthycHatter! Monthly tips of how to stay in shape this festive season

As the festive season beckons, it’s easy to lose sight of the health goals that you’ve been trying to achieve all year. Rich food, plentiful alcohol and lack of exercise all contribute to a sluggish system, not to mention the family hazards that might fly your way. Try following these tips to minimise the damage to your body (and soul) beautiful.

Stay off the snacks.Around Christmas time, many of the kilos packed on are due to snacks that lie around the house. Go easy on the chocolates and nuts, they are full of kilojoules and are unnecessary when you are also enjoying large meals! As a substitute, have bowls of fruit available (grapes and berries are good) and help fill kids’ stockings with an orange or apple, too.

Plan a walk.Just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean normal life has to stop completely! Build some time into your day to take some exercise, even if it’s a simple walk along the beach or a swim. Taking time out is also helpful for avoiding family tension: if there’s a storm brewing, calm yourself down by getting out and about for 30 minutes or so.

Bulk up on fibre.Whatever your chosen Christmas meal, max out on veggies and cut back on the meat. It doesn’t have to be dull — look up inventive ways to make a splendid salad or dress up those sprouts. As long as your veggies aren’t covered in butter

or rich salad dressing, you can scoff lots without packing on too many kilos.

Be sensitive to others. Not everybody finds Christmas a pleasant time — be sensitive to the feelings of those around you, especially if there’s been a recent bereavement or loss. Even happy events such as the birth of a child can cause emotional havoc, so stay aware and steer clear of potentially hazardous topics.

Don’t start on the booze too early.Tempting though it can be to crack open the bubbly as soon as you’re dressed, save it for later in the day. When eventually you do have a drink, remember to space alcoholic beverages with soft ones, allowing your liver a chance to fight back. Don’t forget that it’s harder for your liver to metabolise alcohol when your sugar intake has been high: it prioritises the absorption of sugar over alcohol, so if you’ve been on the chocolates all day, any alcohol will remain in your system for longer.

Get organised! If you leave all your preparations to the last minute, things can get stressful. Financially, too, leaving everything until last can create a big hole in your wallet. Space everything out by writing lists and buying presents ahead of time (this will also save you cash). Buy foods that won’t go off in advance, too, such as Christmas puddings and so on.

Choose your drinks carefully. If you’re watching your weight, some drinks will kill your diet. Obvious ones to look out for are creamy cocktails, but keep an eye on your intake of premixed drinks and cocktails in general. Stick to straight spirits, mixed with low-kilojoule drinks, or wine.

Set out expectations.Christmas can be a very happy time, but it can also be stressful. If your parents are separated or if you’re planning to spend the holidays with your partner’s family, make sure the other set know in good time. Disappointment often breeds resentment and the last thing you need on your hands at Christmas is a family feud. As at any other time of the year, communication is of paramount importance — hiding away from telling somebody something they won’t want to hear will only prolong the issue.

desk snow globeMaterials: Spray paint (dark green or gold are nice) Clean baby food jar Floral clay Glitter Foil figurines

Instructions:

l Spray paint baby food jar lids. I had a dark teal green so I used that. Gold would be pretty. l I use a little floral clay inside lids. The children like spreading it around inside the rim.lAttach figurines to the under side of the lid.l Sprinkle some glitter and some foil on and around figurines and fill with water.

puzzle piece pictureFrameMaterials: Old cereal box Puzzle pieces

Red, green and brown paint (we use tempra as I have young children, but you can use acrylic if you trust your kids not to get it on their clothes) Photo Scrap of red felt (and green for a holly leaf - optional) or small red pom pom 2 wiggly eyes (or you can make paint or paper ones)

Instructions: l Place the photo onto the cereal box to determine the size and shape you want. (You can make it circular, square, oval, triangular, etc.) l Cut out a shape from the cereal box at least 1 inch bigger than the photo (this is going to be your frame). l Cut a shape out of the center of your “frame” (without cutting through - this is a job for an adult). Again, you should end up with at least a 1 inch frame. l Paint your puzzle pieces (some red and some green) and let dry. l Glue them onto your frame,

overlapping the pieces. l Glue the photo to the back of the frame. Make your Reindeer:l Take 3 puzzle pieces (preferably one should be a bit bigger than the other two).l Paint the 3 puzzle pieces brown and let dry. l Next take the two smaller puzzle pieces and glue them to the larger one in the corners only. l Then attached the wiggly eyes. l Cut-out a small red circle for the nose and glue. l Then in the corner of one of Rudolph’s antler make a small holly leaf from green felt. l Glue the reindeer into the corner of the frame.

Work Incentive Employees will receive a maximum of 2 days incentive leave in 2010 as a result of 100% work attendance in 2009. This means that no sick leave and family responsibility leave was taken in 2009. The incentive excludes annual or study leave. Staff members that were employed for 9 months in 2009 and didn’t take sick leave and family responsibility leave within this period will receive 1 incentive leave day in 2010.

These days are not referred to as ‘Annual Leave’ and therefore cannot be accumulated after 2010. This leave is therefore not to be paid out upon termination of employment. When an employee anticipates taking this incentive leave, please ensure that you receive the necessary authorization from your manager and complete a leave form as required for all leave to be taken. We encourage you to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I have listed the names of the employees who qualify for incentive days in 2010. You will receive a letter specifying the number of incentive leave days that you are entitled to. Well Done!
