PRESIDENTS REPORT
It’s been a very good month for rides and
shows, with some good riding weather. Our
first visit to the Bridgetown Show was a re-
sounding success, with the biggest turn out of
bikes we have ever put on for a country show,
43, I believe.
I don’t want to steal Capt. Leithal’s thunder,
but I must say well done to everyone who had
a hand in organising the event, it was brilliant.
As a follow on to that show, we have an item
to auction later in the meeting.
On the day, there was a People’s Choice award
for the favourite bike on display, which ended
in a dead heat between Eddie Laing’s newly
restored ‘42 WLA Harley and a Harley outfit
owned by John McDermott. Neither gentle-
man, nor I use that term advisedly, wished to
rob the other of the award, so it was decided to
put it up for auction at tonight’s meeting.
It is a voucher to the value of $100 for lunch
and cider at “The Cidery” in Bridgetown, so
something well worth having.
CAPTAINS REPORT
Busso Mid-week Ride 15/11/2017, 14 mem-
bers turned out for the ride and 3 visitors. We decided on a ride to Cape Naturaliste
Lighthouse. Darryl led us of heading out
Chapman Hill Rd winding our way down to
Dunsborough then on to Meelup Beach stop-
ping for a break then on to the lighthouse and
returning to stop at Yallingup for morning tea.
From there we headed down Caves Rd to
Grace Town stopping for a break then heading
back via Caves Rd, Metricup Rd, Gale Rd,
Jindong Treeton Rd, and Payne Rd arriving at
Busselton about 1pm.
A very pleasant ride on a very pleasant day.
Peter Whiteside
Mid-week PM. 15/11/2017. 25 Riders 1 Pas-
senger
When I looked at the long range forecast last
week it said hot weather on Wednesday, so de-
cided to go to Brookhampton Hall where there
is plenty of shade.
However, it wasn’t too bad at all; Margaret G.
and I headed out beforehand and set up under
verandah where we were joined by a very in-
quisitive skink wondering what the noise was.
While we were sitting with our backs to the
wall we discovered there was a wasp’s nest in
the wall cavity so we hastily moved the bench-
es away for the riders.
The riders arrived with no wrong turnings this
time, devoured most of the food and all the
cold drinks as well as plenty of tea and coffee
and of course a lot of socialising occurred.
Margaret & I headed off before most of the
bikes only to have Dougie the dugite slither in
front of the car where I unfortunately, for him,
ran over his head.
We turned around and returned to the scene of
the crime to check whether it had caused any
problems for riders however, it had made its
way to side of road but was only a little bit
alive!
Thanks to Margaret for helping and to Neville
for leading the ride.

Mid-week AM. 29/11/2017. 22 Riders 2 Pas-
sengers After the fine weather of the past few days, the
ride day is overcast with a hint of rain howev-
er, didn't stop a good turn-up for ride to Stir-
ling’s Cottage, Harvey.
The ride travelled along Harris Rd, Dowdell’s
Line, O’Connor Rd, Offer Rd to Burekup then
Sth West Hwy, Mitchell Rd, Bernies Rd, Gov-
ernment Rd to Harvey. A very pleasant place
for morning tea with the gardens looking mag-
nificent at the moment.
Bert's Breakfast Run. 3/12/2017. 24 Riders
6 Passengers, 1 B/U, 3 Extras
A good turn-up, including Darryl & Jenny who
must have been up at sparrows, for a nice se-
date ride thru Australind, Leschenault, Harvey
to Wokalup Tavern for breakfast, as we occu-
pied the entire eating area the poor passer-by’s
who stopped were unable to get food and
drink. It was a great social occasion for our
club with everyone enjoying the chit-chat and
camaraderie.
Thanks to Bert for planning, organising and
being back-up driver.
Busso Mid-week Ride 6/12/2017. 18 bikes
turned up for the ride, 3 of which were visi-
tors, and one passenger. Another perfect day in Busso, but not too good
as far as breakdowns go, Terry on the trike did-
n’t even make it to the start point, turns out he
had alternator troubles, luckily Woody was at
hand to assist him, then one of our visitors
(Bill) had a break down not to long into the
ride and another visitor (also named Bill) went
back to get a trailer to take him home.
We headed of down Ford Rd L into Layman
Rd, L at Tuart Dr, L at Ludlow N Rd, L at
Mallokup Rd, Roberts Rd, L into Bussell Hwy,
R at Hasties Rd, R at South West Hwy, L at
Dardanup West Rd, right at Garvey Rd, R into
Boyanup/Picton Rd to Boyanup Bakery Café
for morning tea.
After our fill of pies, coffee and a chinwag the
Bunbury Boys headed straight home the rest
headed out Trigwell Rd turning L into Bounda-
ry Rd, Gavins Rd to Capel then out Goodwood
Rd, Capel/Tutunup Rd, Tutunup Rd, Ludlow
Hithergreen Rd, Vasse Hwy to Busselton arriv-
ing about midday. A very pleasant ride with no
major mishaps, apart from the breakdowns.
Peter Whiteside
Doug Brittain & Memorial Ride.
10/12/2017. 29 Riders 4 Passengers A good roll-up for this annual event to com-
memorate Doug Brittain & other fallen riders
of the club. Just a short ride to Boyanup via
Boyanup West to Fettlers Park where luckily it
was shady and some cold drinks were waiting.
After a short service conducted by His Grace
Bernie, with the fallen rider’s names read out
by Norm it was time for reflection before leav-
ing to ride around Dardanup West to Gelorup
for lunch at Liz & Anthony’s, by which time
the temperature had reached 37C.
A couple of incidents during the ride, Eddie &
Neville G. didn’t make it to Boyanup after
Washington Ave because Neville’s bike was-
n’t feeling crash hot so opted to go to Eddie’s.
Glen forgot that he had used petrol for the
lawnmower from his bike so consequently ran
out of petrol on the home straight; fortunately
Carty had a towrope so was able to get Glen
home safely.
Never one to miss a sausage sizzle Glen ar-
rived in his trusty Ute. Thanks again to Liz &
Anthony for continuing to host the club in
memory of Liz’s Dad, to Bernie & Norm for
officiating at Fettlers Park and Eric for provid-
ing back-up.

LICENSING LIAISON OFFICERS RE-
PORT
Jeff advised that he will be watching with in-
terest any developments on the proposal for
widening the code 404 to include modified ve-
hicles is expected to be a slow process.
With the change in emphasis to owner respon-
sibility for roadworthiness of machines, it has
been decided not to hold an inspection day and
Jeff will instead be concentrating his efforts on
ensuring club member/machine records are up
to date.
Another reminder that any members still un-
financial on 1 January 2018 will have to re-
register their machines at full cost.

cenced machines.
Submission to the Department of
Transport.
You may have noticed in the Secretary’s Re-
port that the club received a copy of a submis-
sion from the Early American Motorcycle
Club in Perth to the CMC and the DoT.
It’s a long document, 14 pages in all, which
asks those entities to reconsider the wording of
the Code 404 Concessional License scheme in
WA. Basically, it asks that the emphasis
should be on LIMITED USE, NOT STRICT
ORIGINALITY.
Without going into any detail, the requirement
now is for restorers to return the machine to its
original specification allowing just a few mi-
nor safety modifications.
It makes very interesting reading and raises
many common-sense issues. I know common-
sense is a rare commodity in government de-
partments these days, but it does ask some rel-
evant questions for those restoring old bikes.
If you would like a copy of this submission,
see me after the meeting and I will email it to
you.

The ride went for about 35-40 minutes riding
from Cable Beach through various localities
and estates stopping at Male Oval for a sau-
sage sizzle and refreshments.
There were quite of number of toys collected
for kids in care and need of the Department of
Communities. It was great to catch up with
David and Filomena Hart out on their Royal
Enfield Bullet 500cc outfit.
