He further added that a draft law on transparency had been discussed at the cabinet and will be forwarded to the National Assembly for approval.

Al-Ajmi: Central Internal Auditing System is completely independent

The Internal Auditing System, with units spread all over various oil locations, is one of the consultative systems aimed at au-diting and supervising the application of bye-laws and laws of KPC and its subsid-iaries.

The system monitors activities and pro-vides consultations objectively in order to help in the decisions that the administra-tion makes.

To throw more light on the Internal Au-diting System and its significance, KPC Newsletter decided to interview Mr. Mo-hammed Al-Ajmi, Internal Auditing Sys-tem Manager at the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).

Al-Ajmi said, ‘’This system plays an inde-pendent monitoring and consultative role; however, it is affiliated to Internal Audit-ing Committee at KPC and headed by the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of In-ternal Auditing. In addition, each of KPC’s subsidiaries includes a unit representing the central internal auditing system as well as an auditing unit for information technology and another for the technical support.’’

He stressed the system is completely inde-pendent to be able to freely accomplish its duties in an objective manner without be-ing subject to any executive responsibili-ties that might restrict it.

Underscoring goals the system shoulders, Al-Ajmi said the system is tasked to pro-tect the monetary funds and properties of KPC and its subsidiaries, manage its resources efficiently, make sure it is com-plying with the company’s policies and measures in line with the current goals and laws allotted in this respect, and to assess the competence of the internal sur-veillance system. In addition, the system is empowered to ensure that the financial registers, documents, reports and data on which the higher administration relies in the making-decision process are accurate.

Furthermore, Al-Ajmi disclosed that a number of accords have been signed with two internationally recognized and spe-cialized consultative companies; Ernst & Young and Protivity companies, to audit and revise a selected sample of the most important principal activities of KOC, Ku-wait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC). The two consultative companies are also to audit some contracts, main projects and purchases as well as the stores’ systems.

“It is intended that the activities of these two companies will be submitted to the supervision of managers of the concerned auditing units in association with a num-ber of auditors affiliated to the system with the aim of immensely benefiting from this experience,’’ Al-Ajmi added.

In accordance with KPC’s em-ployees’ keenness to be ac-quainted with the latest devel-opments in their career field, in order to improve their perfor-mance, Ms. Reem Al-Manaei, senior Internal Auditor from the Central Internal Auditing Sys-tem recently obtained the cer-tificate of “Certified Investment and Derivatives Auditor” which concerns financial investment, its derivatives and tools along with identifying international investment risks and the tools of managing and controlling these risks.

“As auditing is one of the jobs which require extensive experi-ence in the administrative, tech-nical and financial fields along with experience in financial in-vestment, it was necessary for me to develop my educational level and to become up-to-date with new developments in my career. The eagerness to obtain the certificate emerges from KPC’s interest in using these tools in its investments,’’ Al-Manaei said.

‘’In fact, my desire to acquire such academic experiences was

a reflection of the corporation’s vision represented in the Central Internal Auditing System, which necessitates providing qualified personnel to revise and follow up the numerous investments of KPC,’’ she clarified.

On the constituents of her suc-cess, she regarded the success of each activity is based main-ly on several elements such as identifying the goal, providing the requirements of this activity such as experience and techni-cal certificates.

She stressed good planning on the practical and personal level enables individuals to attain suc-cess, as good planning is con-sidered a bridge that leads to the desired objective. Moreover, perfection at work and perse-verance are necessarily required to maintain this progress.

Advising her colleagues who are planning to complete their studies, Al-Manaei said employ-ees should significantly pay full attention to be acquainted with the latest developments in their career in order to be capable of providing highly-qualified work.
