Welcome to the International Youth Arts Festival, now in its sixth year and blossoming much like a child into an inde-pendent, creative, flourishing thing some-times with so much life and dynamism we are not sure which way it’s going to run!
I am delighted to welcome you all, audiences and participants, to join us in Kingston for what I am sure is going to be the most spectacular festival yet. The magic the fes-tival brings is very special to all of us, allowing our local community and au-diences from around the country of all ages to en-joy the talents of the very best of young people’s work from around the world.
Young trainee proj-ect managers have spent months preparing and programming events for the festival, a team of over 25 students from across Europe are running our press team, 2 phenomenally talented young people created this beautiful bro-chure and our incredible team of volun-teers are the cogs that make the festival dance, working in the production office, backstage, looking after visiting compa-nies and driving our marketing and pub-licity forwards.
I would like to thank the young people we work with who inspire us every single day; without listening to their ideas this festival would be a far less joyous place. I would also like to give enormous thanks to all the staff, mentors, steering group and trustees who provide support to the young people we work with and share their skills and experiences which allow
these ambitious ideas to see the light of day. A huge thanks also goes out to our sponsors, partners and funders - without whom Creative Youth’s work would sim-ply not be possible.
I hope you all have a wonderful festival. My last words of advice - buy a festival pass - it gives you access to ev-ery single performance at the festival for an un-
reasonably cheap price! Come and see our opening concert, Raise the Roof on the 11th July and get a taste for what’s coming up. Mostly. Enjoy yourselves. Eek every moment out. Smile. We only get this once a year.

Tankus the Henge The world of Tankus the Henge is uplifting and wild, dark and heartfelt. A six piece pow-erhouse of a band drawing visual and musical influences rom old time fairgrounds to mod-ern day circus; The Beatles to Tom Waits and Gogol Bordello to Radiohead, they embody a look and a sound that lies somewhere be-tween their South East London home and the carnival town of New Orleans.
EDDance
EDDance is a London-based company of dance artists under the direction of choreographer Edd Mitton who enjoy working in a variety of styles and spaces, but always share a commitment to making work for performance which is beautiful, intelligent and accessible.
“It’s wonderful to have the support of Creative Youth. Their experience of management, budgeting and all the ‘behind-the-scenes’ stuff that goes into producing art work is really valuable as a young artist, and our regular meetings and mentoring sessions help keep my process on track. Ultimately, their confidence in me and my work is a real boost.”
Tankus the Henge performs The Last Waltz at the Rose Main House on Thursday 24th July @ 8.30pm

They will also be collaborating, leading workshops for the public and testing new work in ‘scratch’ nights. If you would like a tailor-made workshop, a Q&A session or any advice and tips from any of our artists in residence, then please get in touch at [email protected] and we will do our best to accommodate your requests!

"I just wanted to send a big HELLLOOO over to Kingston. I am fina ly back in my German everyday-life and the IYAF pictures on facebook make me want to come back instantly! I am sure you guys have a really good time and enjoy what you have creat-ed. Raise the Roof was an impressive, amazing night. We had so much fun! Thank you so much for making my time in Kingston such a great experience! I really hope I can
find a way to join IYAF 2014."
"The Iyaf team proved to be extremely open-minded and supportive of my
reportage drawing. Not only did they let me come up with a brand new kind of volunteering, but they gave me rec-ognition, appreciation; they welcomed me in a family I knew nothing about.
This experience is very precious to me, it is one of a kind, and I feel very lucky
to be part of this fantastic festival"
"IYAF has completely changed my career path. It was an incredibly eye opening and
really taught me those things that you never ever learn behind the school desk.. I knew I was capable of doing the work that I do but I never really had the chance to see it my-self. IYAF was extremely important for my
career and I can't stress enough how lucky I was to be part of this lovely team."

“A privilege for Kingston to have such rich talent, spectacle, imagination
and smile- and thought-provoking art on its cobbled plate."
"The Festival passes gave me and my family two weeks of eye opening,
mind altering, laughter inducing, tear making fun at next to no cost. What a thrill to be able to
see a different show every night in your own town. Bliss."
"Over the past two years I feel I have grown emotionally and mentally alongside the festival my confidence when talking to people of all ages has massively increased. I have found it easier to try new activities and take different jobs across the festival and I have taken opportunities which have led me to where I am today."
"I would recommend volunteering at Creative Youth to anybody of any age. The passion shared by the
