students

• Is faculty capacity diverted from campus needs ? No, on their own time and paid a royalty

• Will investments made be recovered from revenues ? Yes

• Will revenues sustain operations ? Yes

• Will Deans, department heads be kept in the loop ? Yes

• What will happen to residual funds ? Shared equally between faculty and administration ‐ for student funding

Brief History

• The Hub‐zero platform at Purdue was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF)

• The Nano‐electronics group started NanoHUBUto provide a few courses targeted at PhD students 

• Purdue’s then Provost Tim Sands announced plans to open the platform to the rest of campus

• Ananth Iyer asked to lead this effort on behalf of the Provost’s office in July 2012.

Path forward• Share all technology choices with Purdue faculty and serve as a resource for faculty

Closing thoughts• Faculty have to remain connected • Our campus students need to get access • Co‐exist with existing structures and governance• Focus on completion of courses – requires oversight by 

local faculty or other responsible entities• New collaboration possibilities in the digital space • It’s not about the technology• It’s about leveraging all the technology available to deliver 

the education• Research groups can educate and sustain their graduate 

students by developing online content ….and help the world…..we hope to prove that..
