COLD AGAIN AT LAST!After what has been Europes driest period of weather and the highest temperatures since records began, we are now looking forward with growing excitement to autumn and winter. The wind, the cold and the snow have always held a particular fascination for us. Landscapes are transformed, and the winter weather is something we can really feel and experience. Whereas once the long, dark winter months used to mean austerity, discomfort and limited scope for outdoor activities, nowadays our clothing and equipment puts us in the fortunate position of being able to enjoy unforgettable experiences in the snow, the ice and the cold. And this is exactly what drives us! In winter, weather protection doesnt play a supporting role, it is the protagonist. At no other time of the year are functionality, reliability and quality so important. This is when the wheat gets separated from the chaff. Whether its our new Broad Peak XT 3-in-1 jacket in the Alpinism line, our versatile Activate softshell pants, our new winter sleeping bags, designed, developed and tested over a two-year period and built to cope with arctic temperatures, or our innovative Winter Trail Texapore trekking boot, the standards we set are equally high for all of our products. Winter accepts no compromises. And neither do we. That is something you can rely on! Right now we find ourselves sitting in front of the final photos and stories for the new winter catalogue you are holding in your hands. Our catalogues include the honourable, but monumental, task of showcasing and describing the large number of new products and product improvements in a clear and understandable manner, while doing justice to each individual product. Unfortunately, its just not possible to include all the new ideas from our product development department in this catalogue. Thats just the way it is and the way it always will be! Once again, weve pulled out all the stops for Winter 2011. Our softshell apparel continues to be a major theme, and one that grows in importance from season to season. The introduction of these fabrics and technologies has created a seemingly endless range of possibilities to design new and ever more versatile products. Softshells are pioneers in the truest sense of the word. These hybrid fabrics effortlessly span the boundaries between waterproof shells, windproof membranes and insulating fleeces. They break with previous ways of doing things, rewrite the rule book and effortlessly combine apparently irreconcilable opposites. On another front, we turn our attention in Winter 2011 back to a material that has been with us since our very first expeditions: DOWN. Down is a unique and fascinating product, whose characteristics have yet to be bettered by man-made materials. When it comes to no-compromise warmth-to-weight performance and compact pack size, down is without equal. We team down with sophisticated cuts and intelligent fabric combinations and integrate it into our high performance winter apparel. It goes without saying that softshells and down jackets form an integral part of our 3-in-1 jackets. Our double jackets are designed to perform throughout the year and provide unique versatility and flexibility. From alpine routes to trekking or hiking, from arctic conditions to moderate temperatures, 3-in-1 jackets cover the full spectrum. Weve also expanded our Winter 2011 3-in-1 collection with a number of new ideas. We are passionate about product development. And we have been for over thirty years! But weve also been active, as promised, on other issues. After joining the Fair Wear Foundation in 2010, this year we produced our first comprehensive Suppliers Social Report (available for download at www.jack-wolfskin.com). It is a complete and transparent account of our commitment to human rights, labour standards and supply chain responsibility. We also intend to follow this with a comprehensive environmental report later on this year. In cooperation with the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, we sponsor Germanys largest nature conservation prize. This is part of our commitment to protecting the environment the place we call home and ensuring that important issues of climate change, green energy policy and conservation remain high up on the agenda. We take our duty of care very seriously and want to influence others too. For more information about our eco-responsibility, plus everything you need to know about our products, projects, trips and ideas, visit www.jack-wolfskin.com. We hope that this catalogue inspires you to get outdoors whatever the weather trekking with friends or hiking with the kids, travelling around or embarking on some other, long-planned big adventure. See you out there! Your JACK WOLFSKIN Team

SNOWSHOE TOURSThere seems to be an unwritten rule that splits outdoor fans into two camps every winter. Either you ski tour off-piste in the high mountains or down in the valleys on the prepared trails and pistes. We enjoy breaking these kinds of rules. Snowshoeing, which has become more and more popular in recent years, provides the perfect way of doing this. All you need is a mountain guide with good local knowledge and your avalanche equipment and its off up into the beloved mountains. As soon as you get above the tree line your efforts will be rewarded. If the weather is clear you will get panoramic views of high peaks and virgin snow, there for the taking. Whether you opt for a day trip from the top station of the ski lift or plan to stay overnight in a mountain hut is a matter of personal preference. There are plenty of possibilities for unforgettable tours. With the summits in mind, its clear to see why we have now incorporated our best-performing fabrics, for example TEXAPORE AIR and TEXAPORE O4, into our HIKING line. After all, hiking trips can also be very demanding. Why not seize the opportunity to rethink hiking in winter and see the mountains from a different perspective?

3-IN-1 JACKETSIf there is one product that exemplifies the central concept of our winter collection, then its the 3-in-1 jacket. It combines weather protection with optimal functionality and the highest possible levels of wear comfort. Since the introduction of the first 3-in-1 jacket over 25 years ago, we have continually worked to develop and improve the concept. This is why the weather protection and insulation layers in our 3-in-1 jackets are precision-engineered for seamless combination, to cover the widest spectrum of applications and activities. The thing that makes our 3-in-1 jackets so fascinating is their flexibility. You pack just one jacket, but actually have three! The outer shell and inner jacket can either be combined or worn separately. The shell jacket provides perfect protection against the wind and the rain in more moderate temperatures, while the inner jacket delivers warmth for the transitional seasons or insulation on dry days. When combined, they offer unbeatable weather protection and insulation, allowing you to adapt your clothing system quickly to suit the level of activity and changing weather conditions. The 3-in-1 jacket also provided the design impetus for the development of our System Zip jackets. Shells and inner jackets are available separately, and designed for mutual compatibility. They can still be seamlessly combined via their system zips to create a double jacket. This means that you can select the corresponding level of weather protection and insulation to suit your individual needs or expand the performance spectrum of your existing double jacket. The precision fit and functionality of both our 3-in-1 jackets and our system jackets provide a modular apparel system with virtually limitless possibilities.

THE SMALLEST DETAILWhats the phrase that best describes our whole winter collection? Technical detailing! All our products are thought through, right down to the smallest detail. Even seemingly self-explanatory features sometimes prove the subject of intense debates in our product development department. Where should the bar tack stitching go? What is the best tread design for a boot to provide optimum traction while still delivering the required roll-off performance? Exactly which section of a pair of pants needs this special fabric? Whats the best way to make a hood easier to operate when gloved up? We incorporate technical fabrics and intelligent detailing solutions right through our collection, from the jackets to the base layers and accessories. As far as we are concerned, every type of outdoor activity deserves decent clothing and equipment. If you get caught out in the rain or a storm breaks, you still need a certain amount of protection and functionality, whether you are on a mountain trek or a short walk. Of course our alpine products are particularly technical. However, all our lines are subject to the same attention to technical detail and manufactured to the same high standards.

THE BIG FIVEThe Big Five are:

THE KEY CONCEPTS OF OUR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

The Big Five are the five key concepts that drive product development at JACK WOLFSKIN. Our products are designed and engineered in accordance with these principles to provide reliable protection whatever the conditions, trip after trip.

Weather Protection: Weather protection is JACK WOLFSKINs top priority. Throughout the last thirty years, we have continually been working on this aspect. As a result, we have a wealth of experience to draw on for the development of each new product. Climate comfort: We are involved in ongoing research to produce better technologies, more breathable fabrics and detailing solutions that allow better ventilation. Lightweight design: We spend a lot of time and effort trying to make our products as lightweight as possible. Low weight is not always the highest priority, but its an ever-present theme. Some of our products are primarily engineered to ensure a lightweight specification. Activity profile: We see our products from a users viewpoint, to best decide what he or she needs. This helps us select the right cut, the best fabrics and the most suitable details. Functionality: We see functionality as carefully designing products down to the smallest detail, so that they are easy and intuitive to use.

12

OUR PRODUCT LINESJust about all our products are designed for particular activities and therefore fall into one of our product lines. These different product lines can help you find your way around. For example, if you are looking for a climbing jacket, take a look at our ALPINISM line; for rucksacks for long journeys far from civilisation, see TREKKING; for jackets for day trips, see our HIKING line and so on. However, these categories are by no means rigidly defined. Our product lines provide orientation and show which purposes our products were originally intended for. Of course, there are certain products, for example fleece jackets, that can be used universally for a wide range of activities. These products are not assigned to any specific line. Here is an overview of our product lines: ALPINISM: Alpinism places extreme, and extremely variable, demands on your gear. Sweat-inducing ascents are often punctuated with rest phases, the weather can be raw and conditions can change in an instant. Our alpine apparel and equipment is designed to provide comprehensive weather protection and tough, mountain-compatible build quality, teamed with low weight, high breathability and full freedom of movement. TREKKING: Single-day or week-long treks can push both you and your kit to the limits of endurance and durability. Our trekking products are engineered with great emphasis on robustness, durability and reliability. HIKING: Hiking covers a broad bandwidth of activities, from mountaineering to high-impact trail running to all-weather walking. This is why our hiking line features such a wide range of materials and products. FAMILY: Our products for children and youngsters reflect all our experience and expertise. This is because being outdoors doesnt only mean holidays, its about everyday life including school and leisure time. The focus here is on weather protection, safety and details relevant to particular ages and activities.

AT HOME OUTDOORSMORE THAN JUST A SLOGANAt Home Outdoors is more than just a slogan; its an expression of our attitude to life. We have been fascinated by outdoor activities and experiencing the natural world, beautiful landscapes, foreign countries, different cultures and being free to travel whichever path we choose ever since we started out. For over thirty years, we have applied our enthusiasm and experience to developing products for everyone who enjoys being At Home Outdoors with us. This is regardless of whether you happen to be in Patagonia, the Alps or the hills and mountains closer to home, whether you are on a via ferrata, trekking in remote regions for weeks on end or simply enjoying being outdoors outside your own front door. Our products arent there to tell you what to do. They should, however, provide you with reliable protection to do whatever you want and if they help motivate you to do more, then weve done our job properly. We want you to be able to enjoy what you like doing best. That means you must be able to rely on us and our products. This is something you can count on. Product after product.

14

15

MORE THAN JUST NOBLE INTENTIONSWE ASSUME RESPONSIBILITYFor us, At Home Outdoors also means respecting the environment and the people we deal with. We were quick to assume responsibility for our actions, both outdoors and indoors within our company. As part of our duty of care to the environment and nature, we support various conservation and ecological projects. In cooperation with the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, we sponsor Germanys largest nature conservation prize, which promotes civic involvement in nature conservation and environmental education. We want to ensure that good ideas and projects become a reality. We have also implemented a series of measures designed to help us significantly reduce our environmental impact. This applies in particular to our use of resources and reducing our CO2 emissions. As it is not possible to stop all emissions, in cooperation with the reforestation organisation PrimaKlima, we arranged for 100 hectares of forest to be replanted to compensate for the remaining CO 2 emissions from the financial year 2010. We are also working on a comprehensive Environmental Report, which will be published later this year. It is our belief that good products are only good if they are manufactured under reasonable social conditions. In 2010, we joined the Fair Wear Foundation to underline our commitment to promoting human rights and labour conditions in the textiles industry. This builds on our own Code of Conduct and social standards auditing measures and ensures greater transparency and openness. We are also involved in a number of long-term social and humanitarian projects. The most well-known of these is Rebound, a project to rehabilitate and resocialize former child soldiers in Uganda. There is much more that we could tell you. But then, we have always felt that actions speak louder than words. We are involved in these projects because we believe that companies have to assume responsibility for their actions. There is more information about how we see our corporate responsibility on our website.

In the alpine environment, durability, excellent breathability, unimpaired freedom of movement and full-bore weather protection at the lowest possible weight are high priority attributes. That is why our ALPINISM apparel uses extremely breathable, hard-wearing fabrics and frequently fabrics with kinetic stretch properties, which allow us to keep the cutlines neat and closefitting. Insulation also has to perform well, and deliver this performance at a light weight, which is why we use down fills, amongst others. Critical wear

points are additionally reinforced to guard against damage caused by contact with sharp items of equipment, rocks and ice. And because it is often the little things that make a big difference when you are up on the mountain, the detailing is also alpine-specific, e. g. the jacket pockets are often raised to ensure easy access when wearing a climbing harness or rucksack waist belt. Additional weather protective detailing (e. g. storm collar, storm hood) is also typical of the products in our ALPINISM line.

18

Many people regard alpinism as the royal discipline amongst outdoor sports. When you are climbing and walking on rugged high mountain terrain and across glaciers, your clothing has to be precision engineered to cope with the challenges.

One new route and one classic that was the plan for our ice climbing photo shoot in February 2011. For openers, we decide to test out the Karwendel Ice Fall at the Karwendelbahn cable car in Mittenwald, an artificial ice climb that took 10,000 litres of rainwater to create. The 80 m ice fall is bolt protected and involves some pretty demanding climbing. On our way back down to the valley we look out of the cable car and see the next party preparing to take on the challenge.

In the afternoon,

we head over the border to the Pinnistal. The following day we get a good view of classics like Men without Nerves, The Gully and The Curtain from the Pinnisalm. After checking the conditions we decide to go for Men without Nerves and prove to ourselves on the hard blue ice that we do actually have some!

Cutting edge weather protection technology

TEXAPORE

TEXAPORE is a generic term that encompasses various waterproof and breathable fabric technologies. The TEXAPORE weather protection layer (membrane, coating or membrane/coating hybrid) is bonded to the shell fabric to form a 2 layer or 3 layer laminate. The common attributes of all these versions are reliable waterproofness and moisture vapour porosity (breathability). Various performance levels are available to us, depending on the activity profile of the garment.

In the ALPINISM line, the primary focus is often on better breathability. On strenuous ascents, the fabric has to allow a great deal of moisture to pass through it, to ensure that you dont cool down too much during rest breaks. This line is where you will find our highest performance fabrics and with TEXAPORE AIR, our latest innovation (more info on the right).

weather protection technology delivers levels of comfort more usually associated with a softshell. Unlike conventional waterproof and breathable fabrics, which simply allow moisture vapour to pass through (at a constant, unchanging rate), the air permeability of TEXAPORE AIR allows air exchange (convection) to occur, a process that is accelerated by the pump effect of movement. In other words, the more active you are, the more breath-

able your jacket! We call this dynamic breathability. TEXAPORE AIR is also waterproof and breathable. TEXAPORE AIR O3+ 3L is a very lightweight laminate consisting of a shell fabric, a membrane and a lining. Even in the resting state, the data is impressive: moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) 30,000 g/m2/24 h; air permeability 1,5 l/m2/s; hydrostatic head 5000 mm.

inner down jacket

BROAD PEAK XT JACKETEffective weather protection, softshell levels of climate comfort, low weight and down insulation youll find all these and more in this new alpine 3-in-1 jacket. The jacket is engineered to cope with demanding use in low temperatures ice climbing, ski touring or alpine mountaineering. The shell jacket is tailored from TEXAPORE AIR O3+, our waterproof, air permeable weather protective laminate. Continual air exchange occurs through the fabric, which enhances the already excellent moisture vapour transmission rate. So the more you move, the better the breathability of the fabric! Triple layer TEXAPORE TASLAN on the critical wear zones make the shell tough enough to withstand contact with rock and ice. The inner jacket also boasts some impressive technical credentials. Filled with our extremely warm, high-performance down and virtually windproof, it is ideal for wear as a stand-alone jacket for bitterly cold, dry days. The combination of a lightweight shell fabric and the air exchange through the shell jacket allows the down to achieve its full loft and insulation capability. Kinetic stretch fleece inserts under the arms enhance the climate com fort and cold block cuffs ramp up the insulation. In spite of its full-spec functionality, the BROAD PEAK XT JACKET weighs in at just 1020 g (size L), thanks to the sophisticated combination of light weight fabrics and weight-optimised detailing. shell jacket: A extremely (dynamically) breathable, waterproof, air permeable and windproof TEXAPORE AIR O 3+ 3L A shoulders, outer sleeves and waist area in very robust, waterproof and very breathable TEXAPORE TASLAN 3L A ULTRA LIGHT HOOD: fixed hood with adjustable field of vision and volume A venting pit zips A 2 chest pockets, sleeve pocket with ABRASION GUARD reinforcement A all zips water resistant A offset front zip (advantage in layering system) A special ACROBAT CUT for maximum freedom of movement inner jacket: A extremely light, high tearstrength, virtually windproof NYLON AIRGRID A underarm panels in dual stretch NANUK DYNAMIC fleece A 90/10 duck down fill (700 cuin fill power) A 2 side pockets, chest pocket A elasticated cold block cuffs with thumb holes Material: 100 % Polyester; Contrast material: 100 % Polyamide and 100 % Polyurethane Inner jacket Material: 100 % Polyamide Contrast material: 94 % Polyester, 6 % Elastane Filling inner jacket: 90/10 duck down, 700 cuin Weight: 1020 g (Size L) Sizes: S - XXL

TEXAPORE O4 EVO STRETCHEXTREMELY BREATHABLE, KINETIC STRETCH, VERY WATERPROOF

Our most breathable weather protec tion fabric, TEXAPORE O4 EVO STRETCH, has several key attributes: it is extremely breathable (moisture vapour transmission rate: 40,000 g/m/24 h), yet very waterproof (hydrostatic head: 20,000 mm), with a compact pack size and kinetic stretch properties for good freedom of movement.

membrane with catalytic layer

The incredibly high values for waterproofness and breathability are achieved through the combination of a pore-free membrane and an open-pored catalytic layer, which accelerates the transport of moisture vapour molecules to the outer surface of the fabric. Texturized (crinkled) yarns give the fabric its active stretch performance.

VERY WATERPROOF, HIGHLY BREATHABLE

TEXAPORE O2

Our very waterproof, high breathability TEXAPORE O 2 hybrid technology combinescoating membrane the advantages of microporous coatings and pore-free membranes: The microporous coating is waterproof and extremely breathable. It forms a robust unit with the shell fabric. The pore-free membrane is wafer-thin and thus extremely breathable, yet it remains water-

proof even under high water pressures. The combination of the two layers produces a synergy effect, i. e. the functional attributes of the two components are cumulative. The moisture vapour transmission rate lies between 15,000 and 20 000 g/m/24 h, the hydrostatic head rating is 20,000 mm.

The shell jacket has an extra-high storm collar, which protects the whole of the lower face right up to the nose. The collar is elasticated, so it can accommodate several layers of clothing with no uncomfortable bunching at the neck. Alpine Tour No. 2: At the beginning of February 2011, we set off forSwitzerland. Our objective: the 2-day ski tour circumnavigation of Mount Titlis. The ski descent of the Steinberg Glacier from Kleintitlis (3020 m) is a good start to the trip. Then we scramble along the via ferrata and abseil off. Ski descent No. 2 comes next, followed by a second abseil. No more downhill sections for a while now! The next 2 or 3 hours see us climbing steadily uphill to the Grassen Bivi, where we spend the night. Next morning we head for Grassen summit (2946 m). With every step we take the excitement mounts at the prospect of the final descent and the highpoint of the tour the 1600 m long run down to Engelberg.

A further plus point is the extra high storm collar, which blocks wind and spindrift and protects the lower face right up to the tip of the nose. The feather-light inner jacket has a premium quality 90/10 down fill and an extremely light shell fabric that allows the down to achieve its full loft and insulation capability. And since this fabric is virtually windproof, the inner jacket can be worn alone on cold, dry days. shell jacket: A hard-wearing, relatively lightweight, very waterproof, high breathability TEXAPORE O 2 DENSLITE 2L A upper back, elbows and waist: kinetic stretch, lightweight, abrasion resistant, very waterproof and highly breathable TEXAPORE O2 TASLITE STRETCH 2L A ULTRA LIGHT HOOD: fixed hood with adjustable field of vision and volume A venting pit zips A 2 raised side pockets, inner pocket A extra high STORM COLLAR (protects the face right up to the nose) A special ACROBAT CUT for maximum freedom of movement inner jacket: A extremely light, high tearstrength, virtually windproof NYLON AIRGRID A 90/10 duck down fill (700 cuin fill power) A 2 side pockets Material: 100 % Polyamide Filling inner jacket: 90/10 duck down, 700 cuin Weight: 1010 g (Size M) | Sizes: XS - XL

EXPEDITION DOWN JACKETWhat warmth feels like! This extremely warm, expedition-spec down jacket is filled with our new high performance duck down. A super-thin layer of MICROGUARD SILVER interlining helps protect the down, reflects body heat and thus improves the insulation performance. In the shoulder area, which is more exposed to the weather and the area most prone to abrasion (and also where the down would be heavily compressed by the weight of the rucksack), an extra thick layer of interlining takes care of the insulation. We have used windproof, extremely water-repellent, STORMLOCK HYPROOF MINIRIP as the shell fabric, with a more abrasion resistant version of the fabric on the shoulders. Expedition insulation Down is a sensible choiceas an insulating fill for alpine apparel, as it is extremely warm yet very light and packable. For extreme use and expeditions where such attributes are even more important this natural fill material is therefore very popular. The fill in our alpine down jackets consists of 90 % down and 10 % feathers for added stability and durability. With a 700 cuin fill power, the down also has an excellent insulation-to-

pack size ratio. When teamed with a very lightweight, high tearstrength and (virtually) windproof shell fabric, the down can achieve its full loft. Depending on the designated area of use of the garment, the down fill might also be additionally protected from moisture by a thin layer of MICROGUARD SILVER interlining.

It is so light that it exerts hardly any pressure on the down fill, which means the down can achieve its full lofting capacity (and therefore its full insulation performance). The detailing is minimalist rather than comprehensive and includes the typical features of the ATMOSPHERE line, e. g. sophisticated zip solutions like the asymmetric front zip and the system zip.

Each of the garments benefits from a 90/10 down fill, which has a 700 cuin fill power and the best warmth-to-weight performance of all of our down fills. The shell fabric used is NYLON AIRGRID. DOWN TO THE LAST DETAIL

HELMET SUMMIT HOOD:The hood has an extra-generous volume and can be attached to the collar of the jacket at two different levels, which allows a climbing helmet to be worn underneath without impairing the freedom of movement. It has a reinforced peak and both the volume and field of vision are fully adjustable.

SNOW SKIRT: Prevention of snow ingress from below or a little less weight? The choice is yours! The snow skirt (a. k. a. powder skirt) is detachable so you can use it, stash it in your pack or leave it behind according to whim and weather.

Water resistant zips: The big advantage of these specially coated zips is the fact that they render an additional weatherproof covering flap unnecessary. This saves fabric, and therefore weight.

ALPINE PANTSCritical wear points:Sharp objects such as crampons, snow shoes, ice and rock can damage the fabric of the pants, particularly on the inner calf area. Our alpine pants are therefore reinforced in this area with extremely tough fabrics.

DETAILINGVenting zips: Extra climate comfort is often a sensible feature, even with extremely breathable fabrics. The weather protected zips on the thighs of the pants allow the ventilation to be fine-tuned according to individual preference.

Gaiters: Integrated gaiters are a standard-issue detail on our winter alpine pants. They slip on over the uppers of the boots and depending on the model attach to the laces with a hook.

IMPROVED CLIMATE COMFORT THROUGH

DEVIATOR TEXAPORE MEN/WOMENAt first glance, it looks like a classic mountain boot. But the DEVIATOR is far more than that: An alpine mountaineering boot with top-line technical features. A TEXAPORE O3 membrane beneath the robust, full grain leather renders this alpine boot both waterproof and exceptionally breathable. For optimised wear climate and comfort, the boot also in corporates our new VENT SUPPORT SYSTEM for footwear another world first! The system comprises a second, padded tongue in per forated EVA material, which creates an air expulsion channel at the instep, as well as a perforated insole, perforated padding and mesh fabric on the sides and the collar of the boot for improved ventilation. The sole of the boot is also worth a closer look. lection, in our ALPINISM line; after all, every gram counts when youre up in the mountains. The less you have to carry, the more energy you have for your alpine objectives. Our lightweight products are also designed for users who prefer to travel with just the bare essentials. Youll recognise many of our lightweight models by their names, for example the products in our ATMOSPHERE line.

When developing our lightweight products we pay particularattention to getting the fabrics and detailing right. For the fabrics, a low weight per square metre is a key factor. Robustness is also taken into account. We use techniques such as protective layers, abrasion-resistant coatings, ripstop fabrics and denser weaves to make our fabrics more durable without adding significantly to the weight. The detailing is pared down to the basic features required for the specific area of use. Further Basic Info: Softshells: Soles: 3-in-1 jackets: System zip: Fleece:

And it also means being outdoors in all weathers. It thus follows that the primary focus of the clothing needs to be on full-bore weather protection and long-term durability; in other words, it needs to be totally reliable. The detailing and wear comfort/climate comfort are also crucial, of course. The products in the TREKKING line are engineered to fulfil these requirements.60

Certain features run through the entire TREKKING range: The jackets are cut slightly longer, extending over the hips to provide better protection; the exclusive use of very robust fabrics, often with extra reinforcements; very breathable fabrics and the obligatory venting pit zips for excellent climate comfort; lavish detailing, with plenty of useful pockets for rapid access to small items of kit when you are on the move.

Here at JACK WOLFSKIN, trekking is broadly defined as long distance hiking. In its most extreme form, it might involve back country trekking or expeditions away from civilisation for several days or even weeks at a time, carrying everything you need in a rucksack clothing, provisions, tent, sleeping bag, etc.

Jotunheimen National Park, Norway. Its the beginning of April2011 and the plan is to head north for a few days trekking. After a first night in the guest house to recharge our batteries, the At Home Outdoors ski tour begins. Our car doesnt take very kindly to the icy roads, so an adventurous skidoo ride across the luxuriously white landscape takes us to the starting point of our tour. Fortunately, the rain that is forecast holds off for a while, only to return with a vengeance later on. We arrive at the hut with our faces red raw from the wind blown snow.

63

Typical Norway! A change in the weather (more on this subject later). After yesterdays wet and windy tour, thenext morning greets us with sunshine and a splendid pancake breakfast. Thus refreshed and invigorated, the two guys make good progress with the heavily laden pulk sled, one pulling uphill, the other braking on the downhill stretches. We set off to explore the Jotunheimen, which literally translates as The Home of the Giants. This is the largest and highest mountain range in Scandinavia, and home to the National Park of the same name.

67

Winter trekking in the Home of the Giants. The weather was friendly at the start of the day but it changes yet again as we ski through a landscape formed by the Ice Age, and when we come to pitch our tent the snow storm is raging all around us. We anchor the tent with ski poles and shovels in the snow before retiring to the cosy, wind-free sanctuary inside. ROCKN ICE MENThe jacket for all eventualities! This multi-talented trekking jacket has the answer to every weather situation. This is because the ROCKN ICE offers five different wear options: the inner and outer jacket can either be combined or worn separately. The sleeves of the inner jacket are made of extraordinarily warm 300 fleece and can be unzipped for instant conversion into a gilet and worn for targeted upper body insulation, either under the shell jacket or on its own. The key features of the TEXAPORE O2 outer shell are its extreme breathability and abrasion resistance, which is further reinforced at critical wear points with TEXAPORE O2 EXTREME inserts. And naturally, weve made sure that the jacket has plenty of storage options (it has seven pockets!). The ROCKN ICE is a trekking jacket you can rely on in every situation. Its 5-in-1 functionality can be adapted according to temperature and trek profile and its 300 weight fleece provides outstanding insulation for full winter use. shell jacket: A extremely waterproof, extremely breathable, highly abrasion resistant and supple TEXAPORE O2 SNOW DENSUS 2L laminate A shoulders, outer sleeve panels and waist belt area: extremely robust, high tearstrength, exceptionally waterproof and exceptionally breathable TEXAPORE O 2 EXTREME 2L A SUMMIT HOOD: detachable hood with adjustable volume and field of vision and reinforced peak A venting pit zips A 2 side pockets, 2 chest pockets, sleeve pocket, inner pocket, large mesh inner pouch (e. g. for the hood) A water resistant zips: chest pocket, sleeve pocket A special ACROBAT CUT for maximum freedom of movement inner jacket: A very warm and robust NANUK 300 fleece A sleeves lined in smooth taffeta A detachable sleeves A 2 side pockets Material: 100 % Polyamide Contrast material: 100 % Polyurethane Material inner jacket: 100 % Polyester Weight: 1690 g (Size L) | Sizes: S - XXL
