July has been a busy month for the club. Once again, Katherine Partain has herded the cats together for a Day at the Del Mar Fair. Eight beautiful Jags appeared this year to make a good showing. I wore my club name tag as I strolled around the Fair and found it to be quite a babe magnet. I was frequently surrounded by ladies thinking that I was a Fair official. Most disap-pointing was the reason for them surrounding me was to ask directions to the restrooms. See Katherine’s pictures and write up on page 22.

Again, Dan Jensen, Concours Chairman and Paul Novak, Chief Judge, led us through the 50th Concours without a hitch. I received several comments from entrants about the efficiency of the parking, the effectiveness of the schedule and of course the elegant venue. All that would have been for naught had it not been for the hard working volunteers, who set up, directed cars, provided the judging, and tore down and cleaned up. That membership participation is what makes this the best Concours in the Southwest Region. Having said that, we are not getting any younger and can use more help next year. We are already working on the 2015 Concours planned for 19 July. Make your availability known on the club survey that will be included in your annual dues notice. See the photos and Jim Hallameyer’s write up beginning on page 13.

Speaking of surveys, JCNA will include a Membership Survey in the upcoming July/August Jaguar Journal. Please take the time to respond so that JCNA can better understand your needs and expectations in order to improve the value of the Association thereby enhancing retention and hopefully enticing new membership.

The next event is the Concours Afterglow, 10 August at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. Even if you were not able to attend the Concours, all members are invited to attend this event and share the ambiance of this lovely venue.

Our club members rose to the occasion and put on one great show. Almost 70 cars were presented on the field. The quality of all entries was superb, the weather was perfect, preparations thorough and everyone who attended had a fantastic time. It just doesn’t get any better than that! Attendees were greeted by the beautiful banner you see above. The back side was just as spectacular, as seen below. Kudos to Lloyd Prosser and his Concours Committee

for developing the banner with the donated professional help of new member Tim Bennett at Image Options. Other mem-bers stepping up to ensure the success of the show include Concours Chairman Dan Jensen who, along with Stick Holmes, greeted entrants at the registration table. SDJC President George Klein led a legion of volunteers including Gayle Askren, Vic Chang and Jim Harkins. Together, they made sure all the cars were parked on the field in an artful fashion. George, Dan, Bob Proctor and myself measured and marked the show field on Saturday. I scrambled to produce the program three days before the show. Logo Wear Czars Dick and Francine Kearney ‘manned’ the Hospitality Tent and sold a record number of logo wear items. Also, Chief judge Paul Novak led the judging team consisting of Dick Cavicke, Mel Friedman, Frank Gauer, Charlie Hallums, Jen Hanson, Don Harrington, Steven Hawley, Stick Holmes, Ken Laymon, Steve Kirby, Tom Krefetz, Mark Mayuga, Katherine Partain, Jack Rabell, Pete Rieth, Robert Sheridan, Ed Sowell, Tim Tunnell, Bill Woolley and Mike Zavos. Addition-ally, Apprentice Judges were Colin Bennett, Mitch Cohen, Winston Dabbs and Al Steele. Score Keepers were Jim and Dawn Boese. Our Scrutineer was Harvey Williamson. We can’t forget Bob Proctor, who kept up the publicity blitz prior to the show, photographers Roger McDonald and Mark Hodges, to whose efforts I also contributed, and the good folks at Jaguar San Di-ego, our primary sponsor, who provided financial support and personnel with a display of new Jaguars. There were so many of you who volunteered to make the show a resounding success, I hope I have not inadvertantly omitted someone from these credits. If so, I apologize. To all the volunteers ... cigars all around!

President George Klein led the group of volunteers who arranged all the cars on the show field. E-Types as far as the eye can see! What a beautiful sight!

Our own Stick Holmes was presented with The Andrew J.A. Whyte Service Award, a JCNA honor given to a member who best exemplifies the spirit of positive action toward Jaguar Club Members. Congratulations to Stick! Ali Proctor, Tolly Williamson Kathleen Steele with Grant and Nedra Rummell (seated).

Who could ever get tired of gazing at this gorgeous 1938 SS100 restored by SDJC Tom Krefetz receives one of his two awards member Tom Krefetz. Tom brought 4 Jaguars to the Concours and took home a from SDJC President George Klein.first place award for the SS100 with a perfect score of 100.00 in class C01A. His 1986 XJ6 Saloon took 1st place in preservation class C19B.



Dr. J. Craig Venter brought 3 rare Jaguars to the Concours and took home some serious ‘hardware’ including Best of Show for his 1966 XJ-13 (right and on the cover of this issue of the ‘Jaguar Tracks’).

If you like E-types, there were 18 of them at the Concours. No Steven ... you can’t judge your own car!

New member Patricia Castro and Your Editor, that’s me, won a The Editor’s 2014 XK Coupe, class winner in D09B.husband Raul own a 1999 VDP. 1st place award with a perfect A special order car in British Racing Green with Ivory Interior.He is a former U.S. Ambassador score of 10.000 in class D09B. and former Governor of Arizona.

Nedra and Grant Rummell won a 1st place award for their 1972 E-Type OTS. Mark Hodges won a 1st place award for his 2009 XF.

David Murphy displayed his 1967 E-Type OTS. Steven Card won a 1st place award with his 1954 XK 120 SE OTS.

SDJC Day at the Del Mar Fair

Katherine and Mike Partain led a contingent of San Diego Jaguar Club members on a trip to the Del Mar Fair on July 1, 2014. No word has been received if they tried and survived the latest fried food creations. Anyone up for a double cheese burger with a fried Krispy Cream donut in the center? Members were given preferred parking and were allowed to stay until closing.

1990 Jaguar V12 Vanden Plas

We are featuring Paul Novak’s 1990 Jaguar V12 Vanden Plas Saloon this month. Paul is a member of the San Diego Jaguar Club and serves as our Chief Judge. He has shown this car extensively in Champion Division Class C12 of Jaguar Clubs North America sanctioned Concours d’Elegance events scoring as high as a perfect 100.00.

The car is Jaguar Racing Green in color with Magnolia leather interior. These saloons of the nineteen eighties and early nineteen nineties provided a combination of ride and handling unmatched in the market place. When equipped with the V12 engine, they were among the smoothest and quietest cars on the road. Real burled walnut graced the interior with many styling details held over from the days of custom coach built motor cars. These Vanden Plas models are gaining in popularity among Jaguar collectors. They are still affordable and can be driven with ease and elegance on the highway.

JCNA New Car Discount ProgramWe are very happy to advise JCNA members that, effective immediately, Jaguar Retail Operations has announced the re-instatement of the JCNA New Car Discount program to all North American Jaguar dealers via Retail Opera-tions Bulletin No: JSOB13-25. The biggest difference between this new program and the previous Club discount program, is an increase in the discount from $750.00 to $1,000.00. We know this has taken a long time in coming, but it is finally here!

Program DescriptionJaguar Clubs of North America members receive a $1,000 customer cash offer upon verification of current mem-bership. A Customer PIN form will be given to the organization member by the selling dealer. It asks for basic information and the JCNA member will be required to produce a current JCNA membership card. This form must be completed and kept in the deal jacket for audit purposes. The full amount of the Customer Cash must be applied to the purchase or paid directly to the customer. Outcycled Dealer Service Loaners and Ex-VIP vehicles are eligible for this program. There are, however, certain vehicles that are ineligible - Special Edition and Limited Edition Pro-duction Models are not eligible (i.e. XKR-S, XKR-S Convertible, XJL Ultimate).
