Baptisms: Arrangements must be made by parents through the Rectory Office to schedule baptisms and arrange for Pre-Baptism classes. All parents expecting to baptize their first child are to attend Pre-Baptism classes.

Weddings: Arrangements should be made with a priest through the Rectory Office at least six months prior to the desired date. All couples must attend Pre-Cana classes which are normally scheduled in March.

performance of “Vertep”, participate in the Kutya tasting

CHURCH DONATION ENVELOPES FOR 2016

vestibule of the Cathedral. ST. JOSAPHAT LENTEN FISH FRY

Our parish Lenten Fish Fry fundraiser has been very

profitable for our parish. This year we are looking for someone

in the Parish to volunteer to coordinate and manage this 6

week event which begins on Friday, March 3rd 2017 and ends

on Friday, April 7th 2017. Numerous volunteers are available to

staff the kitchen, order supplies, etc., but we are in need of 1 or

2 individuals to lead the event. For more information or to

volunteer please contact, Fr. Bohdan, Deacon Jeff or any

member of the PAC. Please help so we do not have to cancel

this successful fundraiser in 2017. AUDITIONS FOR ZORYA

And each year thereafter, at the beginning of our church

year, September 1st, we will send a different priest to

Слово св. Івана Золотоустого на Новий Рік

"Християнин повинен святкувати не в призначений час, не в перший день місяця, не

тільки в неділі, а все життя проводити в постійному святкуванні. А яке повинно бути

воно? Про це послухаймо св. апостола Павла, який говорить: «Святкуймо не у старій

заквасці, ані у заквасці злоби й лукавства, а в опрісноках чистоти й правди» (І Кр. 5,8).

Якщо в тебе чисте сумління, то ти маєш постійний празник, бо наповнюєшся добрими

надіями й радієш очікуванням майбутнього добра. Та коли ти неспокійний у душі й

винний у багатьох гріхах, то на тисячах празників і урочистостей ти почуватимеш себе

не краще від тих, що плачуть. Яка мені користь зі світлого дня, коли моя душа покрита

докорами сумління? Тож якщо ти хочеш мати користь з нового року, то зроби так:

наприкінці року подякуй Богу, що Він зберіг тебе до цього часу; пожалкуй у своєму серці

за все погане, що ти зробив, полічи час свого життя і скажи собі сам: дні біжать, літа

минають, більшу частину своєї дороги я вже пройшов, а що доброго зробив? Чи

попрощаюсь з цим світом без усякої чесноти? Суд перед дверми, остаток життя йде до

старості. «Так нехай світить перед людьми ваше світло, щоб вони, бачивши ваші добрі

вчинки, прославляли вашого Отця, що на небі» (Мт. 5,16). Таке світло принесе тобі

велику нагороду. Не прикрашуй вінками дверей свого дому, але веди таке життя, щоб

одержати на свою голову від Спасителя вінець правди". (св. Іван Золотоустий.

From the Homily for the New Year By Saint John Chrysostom

A Christian should not merely celebrate appointed feasts, or new moons, or even merely the

Lord’s Day [Sunday], but, rather, a Christian should continually hold a feast throughout the

whole of life. How should it be? Let us listen to the Holy Apostle Paul, who says: “Let us, there-

fore, celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the

unleavened bread of sincerity and truth (1 Corinthians 5:8).” Therefore, if you have a clean

conscience, you are already holding a continual feast, because you are nourishing yourself with

good hope and reveling in the delight of good things to come. Whenever you are restless in spir-

it and guilty of many sins, even if there be a thousand feasts and holy days, you would be no

better off than those who are grieving. What is the benefit to me of bright days, if my soul is

darkened in conscience? For what is the benefit to me of bright days, if my soul is darkened by

reproaches of conscience? If, then, you wish to gain some benefit from the New Year, do the fol-

lowing: thank the Lord at the end of the year, because He has led you up to this point. Have

compunction in your heart for every bad thing that you do. Reckon up the time of your life and

say to yourself, “The days are fleeting, the years are passing, I have already lived through the

greater part of my journey, and what good have I done? Will I be able to depart from this life

without any virtue? Judgment is at the doors, and the remainder of life leads towards old age.

“Let your light shine before others, so that, seeing your good works, they may give glory to

your Father who is in Heaven (Matthew 5:16).” This light brings you much recompense. Do not

crown the door of your house, but rather conduct your life in such a way, that you will receive a

crown of righteousness upon your head from the Savior.

БОГОЯВЛЕННЯ

Богоявлення – це празник на згадку Хрещення Ісуса Христа в ріці Йордан й явлення

Пресвятої Трійці: Бог Отець – Голос з неба, Бог Син – Ісус Христос і Бог Дух Святий – у

вигляді голуба. Перед своїм публічним виступом як проповідник Євангелії Ісус Христос пішов

над ріку Йордан і дав себе хрестити у ній на знак покаяння, бо таким було хрещення св. Івана.

Христос не мав і не міг мати особистого гріха. Він прийняв на себе гріхи світу, щоб з часом

померти за них і тим способом своєю смертю дати нам право повернення до неба, до Бога.

Прийнявши людське тіло, ставши людиною, Син Божий упокорився й уподібнився до нас в

усьому, крім гріха, як каже св. ап. Павло. Своїм Хрещенням Христос дав нам приклад

служіння а також, щоб і ми упокорялись перед Богом, щоб позбулись гріха і наслідували Його.

Через наше Хрещення ми уподібнились до Христа. «Ви, що в Христа хрестилися, в Христа

зодягнулись»,– каже св. ап. Павло в Листі до Галатів. Бо так, як Христоc помер – зійшов до

пекла, до гробу, а потім воскрес і вийшов з пекла прославленим, так і в Хрещенні ми померли

для гріха і з Хрещення вийшли оновленими дітьми Божими, вийшли новими людьми, наче

воскресли. Сьогодні ми вже Християни, діти Божі! Чи справді ми поводимось так, як належить

дітям Божим? Про перших християн погани говорили, показуючи пальцем: «дивіться, як вони

любляться!» А чи про нас, українських християн, що вже 1000 літ носимо це ім'я, можна

сказати подібне? У Хрещенні ми одержали крижму, біле полотно, як символ чистоти душі й

ласки Божої. Як виглядає та крижма і душа наша сьогодні? Ми одержали запалену свічку як

символ нашої віри, що має горіти ціле наше життя. Чи та свічка ще горить? Чи може погасла,

а в руках наших – лиш огарок? Відновімо наші хресні обіти – зобов'язання, обновімо нашу

душу в св. Сповіді, станьмо подібними до Христа і йдімо за Ним, бо Він єдиний – Дорога,

Правда і Життя!

On Friday, January 6, the Church will celebrate the Feast of the Holy Theophany of Our Lord,

God, and Savior, Jesus Christ. The word “Theophany” means “Manifestation of God” and it refers to

the fact that the Lord has manifested Himself to all of creation in three Persons. The Father testifies

from on high to the Divine Sonship of Jesus, the Son receives this testimony from the Father, and the

Holy Spirit descends from the Father in the form of a dove, and rests upon the Son from all eternity.

This is the first manifestation of the greatest of all mysteries - the Holy Trinity “one in essence and

undivided” – a doctrine unique to Christianity. Our Lord’s public ministry commenced with His

Baptism in the River Jordan at the hands of the Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John. Baptism is

the symbol of death and resurrection, and Christ became incarnate in order to die and rise from the

dead. Baptism is a symbol of repentance and forgiveness, and Christ came as the Lamb of God who

takes upon Himself the sin of the world. Baptism is a symbol of sanctification, and Christ has come to

sanctify the whole of creation. Baptism is a symbol of radical renewal. Whenever one is baptized, the

old has passed and the new has come. Christ has appeared in order to make all things new. The act of

baptism, therefore, contains in symbol the entire mystery of Christ, the whole purpose of His coming.

Every year on the Feast of Theophany, a great miracle is performed in our churches. The Holy Spirit

comes down upon the water and changes its natural properties. It receives the grace to heal illnesses,

to drive away demons and every evil power, to preserve people and their dwellings from every

danger, and to sanctify various objects, whether for use in churches or in our homes. With great

reverence, let us partake of the Holy Water that has been sanctified on this great feast, being ever

mindful that we and all creation have been redeemed by the Creator Himself, who now reveals

Himself to be one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

спасення душ наших.

I нині: Кондак празника, глас 3: Всіх Господь обрізання терпить * і людські прогрішення як

благий обрізує, * дає спасення світові; * і радується в вишніх і Творця єрарх, * і

світлоносний, і божественний таїнник Христовий – Василій.

Прокімен, глас 6: Спаси, Господи, людей Твоїх і благослови насліддя Твоє (Пс. 27,9).

Стих: До Тебе, Господи, взиват иму, Бож е мій, щоб не відверт ався Ти мовчки від мене

(Пс. 27,1).

I святому, глас 1: Уста мої промовлять премудрість і роздуми серця мого – розуміння (Пс.

48,4).

Алилуя, глас 8: Пастирю Ізраїля, почуй, Ти, що ведеш Йосифа (Пс. 79,2).

Стих: Уста праведного повчаться премудрости і язик його промовить суд (Пс. 36,30).

Замість Достойно, співаємо:

Тобою радується, Благодатная, всяка твар, ангельський собор і чоловічеський рід,

освященний храме і раю словесний, дівственна похвало, що із неї Бог воплотився і

младенцем став – перед віками сущий Бог наш. Лоно бо Твоє престолом сотворив і утробу

Твою просторішою небес учинив. Тобою радується, Благодатная, всяка твар, слава Тобі.

Причасний: Хваліте Господа з небес, хваліте Його в вишніх (Пс. 148,1).

Другий: В пам’ять вічну буде праведник, злих слухів не убоїться (Пс. 111,6-7). Алилуя, тричі.

mankind.

Troparion of the St. Basil, Tone 1: Your message has spread through all the earth: it accepted the

word with which you taught in a manner befitting God. You explained the nature of things and

ordered human conduct. O name-sake of the royal priesthood, venerable Father Basil, pray to Christ
