PREPARING FOR BALCARRAS

- We need to divide into two groups - a group that will teach the music lessons and a group that will teach the dance lessons.

- Within your group you need to divide into three groups and assign which week your group will teach

- Look at the curriculum to choose an outcome your group will focus on. As a large group talk about how your three lessons might flow and connect.

- Jan. 17 and 24th classes – preparing time

STRONG STATEMENTS IN A PHILOSOPHY“WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY ABOUT WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS TEACHERS NEED FOR TODAY’S CLASSROOM?”Teachers develop their own individual styles. However, I

believe effective teachers are willing to adjust their own natural style to meet the needs of students. Teachers need to be knowledgeable about their subject area and skilled in engaging students. Teachers should understand and include cultural perspectives. They need to treat students with dignity and respect. The focus in every classroom needs to be on developing higher level thinking skills and collaborative problem solving. Teachers need to design lessons that have understandable learning outcomes and communicate expectations clearly for students. In times where the technological age is advancing quickly, teachers need to develop the kinds of skills which students need to learn to be successful in life. Teachers need to work to instill a love for life-long learning. These are the characteristics teachers need for today’s classroom.

INFORMATIONAL PARAGRAPH

I have been in Education for 29 years. I have had experience in the classroom teaching grades 2-8 and spent several years in the role of an arts education teacher. I spent nine years as a vice principal in three elementary schools, including community school experiences and have been a principal for twelve years in both high school and elementary school settings. I have embraced the educational changes made in our Division through my years in Regina Public Schools. I have worked with teachers to develop skills and changing philosophies in the provincial curriculum and as directed by our local board. I feel I would bring a wealth of knowledge from my experience to the university students I would be teaching. I am excited about an opportunity to work with our future teachers.
