    *PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, you call to us.

    We hear you,

but aren’t sure who is calling.

    We hear you,

but are distracted by many things.

    We hear you,

    but are afraid to answer.

Open our hearts to your voice.

Help us set aside our doubts,

    our fears, and our distractions,

that we may answer you faithfully. Amen.

    ASSURANCE OF PARDON

    God searches us, knows us,

    loves us, and forgives us.

God’s love shelters us and keeps us safe.

    In that knowledge,

let us pass the peace of Christ to one another.

    Passing the Peace of Christ

THE CHURCH HEARS THE WORD OF GOD

    Old Testament Lesson: 1 Samuel 3:1-10 (11-20) (Pg. 215)

A Time for the Child In All Of Us

We Sing the Psalm for the Day: Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18 (UMH 854)

The Psalm will be read responsively, as printed on the next page, and the music

response will be played once; the congregation will then sing the response as written,

and repeated each time the R symbol occurs in the text.

OFFERTORY MUSIC Come My Way, My Truth, My Life Arr. by Arlen Clarke

    Come, my Way,

    my Truth, my Life:

    Such a way

    as gives us breath;

    Such a truth

    as ends all strife,

    Such a life

    as killeth death.

    Come, my Light, my Feast,

    my Strength:

    Such a light

    as shows a feast,

    Such a feast

    as mends in length,

    Such a strength

    as makes his guest.

    Come, my Joy, my Love,

    my Heart:

    Such a joy

    as none can move,

    Such a love

    as none can part,

    Such a heart

    as joys in love.

    DOXOLOGY

    OFFERTORY PRAYER

Holy God, like the first disciples, we have heard the call to follow Jesus! Yet too often,

we have failed to introduce him to others, not willing to take the risks that go with

true discipleship. As we bring our tithes and offerings to you this day, make us bold

in following. May we give more readily, love more deeply, show mercy and

compassion more extravagantly, and seek justice for others courageously. Help us to

walk in the steps of the one we follow. In Christ’s holy name, we pray. Amen.

THE CHURCH IS SENT TO SERVE

*HYMN OF DEDICATION Christ Is the One Who Calls Darwall's 148th

Christ is the one who calls, the one who loved and came,

to whom by right it falls to bear the highest Name:

and still today our hearts are stirred

to hear his word and walk his way.

Christ is the one who seeks, to whom our souls are known.

    The word of love he speaks can wake a heart of stone;

for at that sound the blind can see,

the slave is free, the lost are found.

    Christ is the one who died, forsaken and betrayed;

who, mocked and crucified, the price of pardon paid.

Our dying Lord, what grief and loss,

what bitter cross, our souls restored!

Christ is the one who rose in glory from the grave,

to share his life with those whom once he died to save.

He drew death's sting and broke its chains,

who lives and reigns, our risen King.

    Christ is the one who sends, his story to declare;

who calls his servants friends and gives them news to share.

His truth proclaim in all the earth,

his matchless worth and saving Name.
