It is a beautiful invocation at any time, but especially ap- propriate on the first day of a New Year. In several of his letters, Paul teaches about the rela- tionship between the Law and the Spirit. Here he notes that Christ came according to the Law but won for all a new life in the Spirit, making us adopted sons and daughters of God. This was not a rejection of the Law but a new freedom to live its essence fully in the Spirit. The Gospel weaves together the twofold nature of Jesus’ identity. In the wake of that revelation, Mary and Joseph take the child for the customary rite of cir- cumcision and naming. He is named Jesus, as the angelic messenger of God had instructed Mary. Je- sus, as son of God and son of Mary, is now ready to accept the mission of the Father. We, of course, know from the Gospel accounts how his life unfold- ed. Scripture Insights Scripture scholars speculate that eh blessing in to-day’s reading from Numbers may be the oldest piece of poetry in the Bible. This threefold blessing pro-nounced over the people asks for the same thing us-ing different phrases: that God’s favor bring peace and peace and well-being upon God’s beloved. It is a beautiful invocation at any time, but especially ap-propriate on the first day of a New Year. The psalm is also a petition for God’ blessing, and repeats some of the same words that appear in the First Reading. The image of God’s face that “shines upon us” Those blessed are urged to praise God, and thus will God’s goodness be known to all nations. In several of his letters, Paul teaches about the rela-tionship between the Law and the Spirit. The shepherds relate what their vi-sion announced, that the child is a savior and Christ the Lord. While others are merely amazed by the news. Mary contemplates what the future holds for her son. CHILD ADVOCACY

CASA of the High Plains, Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is seek-ing potential volunteers. We recruit & train volunteers to go to court on behalf of abused and neglected children in our commu-nities. We successfully advocated for 193 children in 2013. Unfortunately, there are more children that need an advocate to speak up for them to ensure that they receive a safe, and perma-nent home. CASA volunteer advocates are ordinary citizens who come from all walks of life and all ethnic and racial backgrounds. After they are trained, A CASA Advocate meets with the child and gathers information to report to the court. CASA Advocates represent and speak up for the child’s Best Interest. Apply to Become a CASA Volunteer by calling 806-669-7638.

All women are invited and are asked to bring a finger food to share.

We would like to express our sincere thanks for all your prayers, support and generosity during our diaconate for-mation. We are truly blessed to part of such a loving parish. We look forward to serving with you. May God bless each and every one of you.

2. ¿QUE ACTITUD NACE EN TU CORAZON AL SENTIR TODA TU VIDA BAJO LA MIRADA BENEVOENTE DE DIOS?
