Happy New Year!

I can't believe it, but 2017 is here! It seems like each year goes by faster than the last! How was your 2016? Did you live each day to the fullest or did you get stuck in the daily shuffle, blink and boom it was gone? Either way, it's history and now it's time to look forward to a new year!

Do you make New Year's resolutions? I make at least 7 or 8 every year! Lol, no really I do! I'm going to cook homemade meals every night, give up ALL sugar, my house is going

to be spotless, I'm going to do another marathon (maybe throw in an Ironman triathlon), finally grow my hair gorgeous, mermaid long and NEVER yell at my kids...ever again. Hmm...do you think I stick with these? Heck no! Usually by January 8th or 9th, I've had a hectic day, I'm ordering pizza, skipping a workout, screaming at someone and wanting to chop my hair off. So why, when I know they are unattainable, do I continue to make these resolutions each year?

Well, I love the idea of a fresh start. It could be New Year's, Monday or any day at all. I love the thought that you can wake up and recreate yourself and your life at any time. There is a quote that says, "Life has no remote control. If you don't like what you see, get up and change it!" What a great saying. We all get stuck in a rut every now and then, but we have the ability to decide to change. So, let's make this our BEST YEAR EVER!

What does your best year look like? Maybe it's getting on an exercise program and eating a bit healthier. It could be de-cluttering your life and getting rid of stress? Whatever it may be, I hope you find some helpful tips in this month's issue to steer you in the right direction. I'm resolving NOT to make resolutions this year. I'm just going to try and enjoy each day a little bit more. Be kind, smile, laugh, enjoy my family and realize that it's OK to not be perfect. Life is short, enjoy the ride!

Blemished credit is both stressful and costly, but it’s not the end. As hopeless as the situation might seem, bad credit won’t last forever. There are things you can do right now to begin improve your credit score.

1 Review your credit report. Getting your credit score back on track begins by reviewing your credit reported for errors. If you do find a mistake, dispute it with the credit repositories. You can have your credit pulled for free at www.annualcreditreport.com.

2 Pay on time. Set up payment reminders and auto payments if offered. Delinquent payments, even if a few days past the due date can have a negative impact on your FICO Scores.

3 Reduce the amount of money you owe. Use your credit report to make a list of all credit cards and their interest rate. Focus on paying off the higher interest rate cards, while maintaining the monthly minimum due to the other creditors.

4 Credit Cards Avoid credit card purchases. DO NOT close the unused credit cards as a short term strategy to raise your score. DO NOT open any new credit cards without talking to a Mortgage 1 Lender first. New account will not help your credit for six months.

5 Pay off down debt. The amount of debt you’re carrying on your credit cards plays a critical role in credit scoring. Borrowers should strive to keep balances in-between 5-9% of the high credit.

FREE ENTREPRENEUR SCHOOL COMING TO LEE COUNTY

A new educational concept is coming to Southwest Florida in January 2017, announced today by Lee County resident, Jim Griffiths. “Learn to think like an Entrepreneur,” a 501c3 nonprofit public learning center supported by local businesses, will be holding free ongoing classes for the general public. The gatherings will include workshops, think-tanks, brainstorming, and guest speakers to teach the basic principles of how thinking like an entrepreneur can be applied every facet of a person’s life. School will begin in January 2017 hosted by Griffiths, a business owner since the age of thirteen, and publisher of SW Florida’s Nautical Mile Magazine. The free classes will have guest speakers, group interaction and discussions about how an entrepre-neur’s mind creates solutions and overcomes obstacles that people do not know how to engage. The school theory emphasizes how applying the principles of thinking like an entrepreneur will help in all facets of life regardless of age, education, or background. “It’s not about business; it’s for any facet of life, from a student to a retiree. CALOOSA COAST ROWING CLUB NAMES NEW SCHOLASTIC HEAD COACH STEFAN SZTANCSA

Coach Stefan has more than 20 years of experience in both rowing and coaching and brings enthusiasm and excitement to the club. Before joining the Caloosa Coast Rowing Club, Stefan was a ten-time National and State Brazil champion rower.

“We are fortunate to have a coach with Stefan’s expertise joining our team,” said Club Board Director Priscilla Quintana. “He is very impressive all the way around and has the energy and vision to move our scholastic program forward,” she said.

Coach Stefan creates a fun, competitive and exciting environment where rowers learn all aspects of rowing, on and off the water. Stefan will coach the high school team Monday through Friday from 3:30-6:00pm at the CCRC boatyard in Cape Harbor.

“I love coaching children,” said the new coach Stefan Sztancsa. “They show us that we have no limits for what we can achieve. Anyone can be a rower and can start anytime. I hope I can inspire them to reach their dreams and even come away with a college scholarship.”

THE FABULOUS FEMALES OF GCFFC: Nicole Thomson-Carey wasn’t always the vision of health she

is today. After losing her mother at age 51 from cirrhosis of the liver, she decided to deal with her own addiction issues and check herself into a holistic treatment center where she was introduced to exercise. She loved the feeling she got from a good sweat session. As painful as it was losing her mom, she believes it set her on the right path and exercise/fitness has saved her life. She has been sober for 7 years and her favorite part of her job is the people she works with. Nicole teaches circuit and strength classes, but her favorite is Hip Hop! Don’t let the title of hip hop class scare you. There is no head spinning and you don’t have to be JLO to attend. She keeps the routine simple and the same, so moms and women of all ages can come and dance away the stress of the day. It feels more like a girl’s night out than an exer-cise class! Nicole also teaches kids classes and loves seeing the confidence they gain through exercise.

Christa Rosado’s exercise history started when she was just 2 ½ years old. Her mom signed her up for dance classes and she immediately loved movement. She continued to dance and played sports through high school. Christa also attended an end-less number of fitness classes with her mom where often the instructors would let help teach. Jazzercise was one of her favor-ites. In college she earned a degree in Dance Choreography and a master ’s in Speech-Language pathology. When she had two young children, she took her first Zumba class and was hooked. The instructor saw how quickly she caught on and encouraged her to get certified to teach. That’s how it all began. Now she has a national certification through AFAA and has branched out to teach Pilates, Kangoo, Ballet Barre, MyRide Virtual Indoor Cycling, Hip Hop, and most Zumba and Zumba specialty classes. It warms her heart to see how the camaraderie of classes brings together people of all ages, races and backgrounds.

Wellness is much more than exercise or nutrition. It is the full integration of one’s self. Human beings

are made up of seven dimensions of wellness including social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, occupational, intellectual and physical wellness. When each of these dimensions are in balance, they interact in a way that con-tributes to our quality of life making us feel happy, safe, and fulfilled. When out of balance, we may experience periods of dis-ease or dis-comfort of the mind, body, or spirit. The dimension challenged in today’s stressful world is our emotional wellness.

Emotional wellness is the ability to understand our-selves and cope with the challenges life can bring. The ability to acknowledge and share feelings of anger, sad-ness, love, and joy in a productive manner contributes to this dimension. We see this dimension being challenged in many areas of our lives and across many generations. Being emotionally well is more than just handling stress during times of chaos, but it involves being attentive to our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; positive or neg-ative. Shifting ourselves into calmness immediately is the challenge. The good news is if emotional wellness is in balance, it implies we have the ability to accept our feelings, rather than to deny them. This creates an opti-mistic approach to life.

I want to share with you a strategy I use called the Preventive 3-B-C (Three-Breath-Countdown) to find emotional balance. I learned this strategy from Millie Grenough, founder of Oasis In The Overwhelm™. The 3-B-C is one of four strategies intended to help find bal-ance in a busy world. It is easy and effective and can be called upon anytime. It brings in calmness immediately and helps to stop the whirl, drop the turmoil, and move from craziness to calm in 60 seconds.

7 Steps To Emotional Balance

1. Look around you and acknowledge where you are.

2. Let your eyes take in the colors and all the

objects around you.

3. Find one object or one color that appeals to you.

4. Let your hands rest on your belly

as you inhale, softly and focus on the color or object.

Invite the color, the texture, and the form

to come into you.

5. Inhale and exhale three times

and invite the beauty to come into

your breath and into your being.

6. Take a little time to absorb what just happened. Notice your heart rate has

slowed, you may feel calmer than before,

your mind is less busy.

7. Give yourself time to appreciate this and integrate the calm. Now allow yourself to move

forward with clarity and respond with a

calmer heart.
