Taking some inspiration from Kim Steinhorst’s recent sermon, I wanted to take a moment at the start of this year to count my blessings. Today I am thankful for: my wonderful wife and daughter phones to stay in touch, and a friendly cat to keep me company while they are still in Louisiana a holiday season full of family and fun all the opportunities for reflection and new direction that the new year brings getting to work with a terrific and talented staff here at church the cheerful faces and waves from the Pre-K students passing my office door David’s successful surgery and continuing recovery, and especially being able to come home on his birthday YOU, Saint Andrew members and friends! This is by no means an exhaustive list. Regarding the last item, though, I want to say what a blessing it is to be here among you. In particular, I want to acknowledge that in the midst of David’s illness and medical leave, I’ve watched you do a fantastic job of caring and praying for the Etheridges. At the same time, I have heard more words of encouragement and support for me than I can count. Many of you know I came from a church where I wound up serving as head of staff, despite not feeling called to that role. It seems God has a sense of humor! But I cannot really compare this situation to my previous one. It’s hard to feel overwhelmed with the extra responsibility when you have all been so proactive about sharing it. At least several times a week, someone has told me I was in their prayers, or offered to take a task off my list, or dropped off food, or simply asked “How can I be of help to you?” I truly appreciate your concern for Shonda, Charlotte, and me. It has meant so much, and has made this time far less stressful than it could have been. It also says something about you as a church how you take care of one another and your pastors. You have put Jesus’ words in John 13:35 into action: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” It is a great example and witness to the faith you share. So keep up the good work, and know that you are one of the many blessings I count this year! In Christ, Pastor Dave

JANUARY 2017

Volume 63, Issue 1

Deadline: Third Monday of every month

Email Submissions to:

Frieda Krohn: [email protected].

Taking some inspiration from Kim

Steinhorst’s recent sermon, I wanted to take

a moment at the start of this year to count

my blessings. Today I am thankful for:

my wonderful wife and daughter

phones to stay in touch, and a friendly

cat to keep me company while they

are still in Louisiana

a holiday season full of family and fun

all the opportunities for reflection and

new direction that the new year

brings

getting to work with a terrific and

talented staff here at church

the cheerful faces and waves from the

Pre-K students passing my office

door

David’s successful surgery and

continuing recovery, and especially

being able to come home on his

birthday

YOU, Saint Andrew members and

friends!

This is by no means an exhaustive list.

Regarding the last item, though, I want to

say what a blessing it is to be here among

you. In particular, I want to acknowledge

that in the midst of David’s illness and

medical leave, I’ve watched you do a

fantastic job of caring and praying for the

Etheridges. At the same time, I have heard

more words of encouragement and support

for me than I can count. Many of you know

I came from a church where I wound up

serving as head of staff, despite not feeling

called to that role. It seems God has a sense

of humor! But I cannot really compare this

situation to my previous one. It’s hard to

feel overwhelmed with the extra

responsibility when you have all been so

proactive about sharing it. At least several

times a week, someone has told me I was in

their prayers, or offered to take a task off

my list, or dropped off food, or simply

asked “How can I be of help to you?” I

truly appreciate your concern for Shonda,

Charlotte, and me. It has meant so much,

and has made this time far less stressful

than it could have been. It also says

something about you as a church – how you

take care of one another and your pastors.

You have put Jesus’ words in John 13:35

into action: “By this everyone will know

that you are my disciples, if you love one

another.” It is a great example and witness

to the faith you share. So keep up the good

work, and know that you are one of the

many blessings I count this year!

In Christ,

Pastor Dave

STOP HUNGER NOW

Thank you for all the hard work and time you put

into helping host a meal packaging event this

year. Normally at the events we like to let our

volunteers know where the meals are going. We

just received confirmation that the meals will be

leaving in January for Haiti. We have a new

partner there, Kids Alive International, that we

are working with and they will be receiving the

meals you packaged. If you would like to learn

more about who they are, please go to the

website below. Thank you again for all the hard

work this year and we are looking forward to

next year.

PRAYER CLOSET

“Come Lord Jesus”

Revelation 22:20

Advent was a time of waiting; waiting for the second coming of Christ….and still we wait.

We prayed for open hearts to receive the hope, love, joy, and peace of the Baby Jesus. May we

continue to have open hearts.

And we were vigilant.

Vigil comes from Latin word ‘vigilia “which means wakefulness. As we sat together at prayer

vigils, we were very much awake and focused on talking and listening to God. Our community

was united knowing we were all praying about the same thing. May we continue to be awake

and in communication with our all powerful and loving God.

“Where two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure I’ll

be there.”

Matthew 18:20(Message)

Playground Excitement!!!

WHAT'S UNDER THAT TARP???

The playground equipment is finally here and we are hoping to

erect the equipment SOON. We will need at least 20 people to

help with this project. If you are available for the day or just a few

hours we will need your help! Please email Beth Groover

at [email protected] if you have some time to donate. We

will provide food and refreshments throughout the day. If you

choose to bring young children, please know that they will need to

be on the smaller playground and that someone will need to be

responsible for them for their safety as we will have saws and

drills.

Due to weather conditions, the construction of our new playground equipment has been postponed until

Feb. 3rd and 4th.

Thanks,

Beth Groover and the Preschool Board
