Intent to Return – September 2021 – LAST DAY!!!! Every Year, all families are asked to indicate whether they are planning to return to Blair the following year. It is critical to know the number of students who will be attending in September 2021 in order to allocate staff and resources for the upcoming year. We are currently asking if your child(ren) is planning to remain registered at Blair for September 2021. This year, the information will be collected online only so please respond to the survey link below at your earliest convenience but no later than Friday, January 22, 2021. It is imperative that you do respond to the survey in order to secure your child’s place at Blair for next year. https://survey.sd38.bc.ca/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=86KJn781 Ms. Ludwig’s Reflection of the Week “The truth about stories is that’s all we are.” Thomas King (2003) Stories, in all the many varied forms provide analogies and connections to others. These connections are deeply nurtured in shared stories. Thomas King, authour of Canada best seller, The Inconvenient Indian A Curious Account of Native People in North America reminds me to pay attention to the stories in my life. They are sacred. My membership to the Blair community  is a large part of my identity. I did not realize it until leaving was in front of me, just how connected I am to this space. I know because at Blair I am understood. I feel less alone in this world. I have people I trust and feel comfortable enough to lay my heart in the palm of my hands and be vulnerable. I feel honoured. Each of us share stories together and our various connections have allowed for more joy to emerge in my life. I am reflecting and remembering all our shared moments right now. I have been reading a book called Everyday Ubuntu by Mungi Ngomane, granddaughter of Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Ubunto is a South African philosophy which teaches that our common humanity and interconnectedness is key to living a better life. Ubuntu is a Xhosa word originating from the South African philosophy and belief in a universal bond: I am only because you are. This is true for me here at Blair. I have become who I am today because of you all. Our shared stories, moments and experiences are now part of my heart 💜 “Ubuntu” Blair Dragons, “I am, because we are.”

Learning Highlights

Division 4 Career Education This term, learners have

been exploring self-identity

at home and at school.

They created an identity

silhouette in fine arts that

explored key attributes and

symbols that help define

themselves. They also

chose a one-word

resolution in September

and reflected on their

progress since then.

Division 9 - Patterns

Learners in Division 9 noticed

that patterns are all around us -

in nature, in our classroom,

how our day is structured and

more!! They even got to

notice patterns in artwork,

specifically local Musqueam

weavings and artwork. These

young learners had so much

fun building, creating,

observing and exploring

patterns in our world!
