All Classes: A safety contract was sent home on Friday to review and remind students about proper lab be-havior. They need to bring it back signed on Monday to participate.
This quarter we will be focusing on lab skills as well as content skills and I would love to open up my class-room on Lab Mondays to have some extra hands in the classroom to assist me in running the labs. If they are absent on any of these Monday's there will be a make up day before spring break. If they break the con-tract due to their behavior in class they will be sent out of the room and assigned a written assignment that the highest grade to replace the missed lab will be a 70%.

All Classes
Please make sure your student’s pencil pouches are stocked.
All classes are going to be participating in Finance Fridays. Every Friday we will be working through curriculum either through Junior Achievement or EverFi to help students build their financial education and help prepare them with practical tools to help them be financially successful in the real world.
Students receive an Article of the Week on Wednesdays. Last week’s is due January 18th. This week will be due January 25th. The AoW is always available on Google Classroom the Thursday after I hand it out in class.
8th Grade Parents - Please see the Continuation info in the Continuation section below.
Because I have not been able to get my website working properly, I will only be using Google Classroom for assignments. Students have access to it through their school email addresses. I will be putting daily work as well as homework up on it.
Please make sure you have access to Infinite Campus for grade information.
Students must have internet access on a nightly basis as we will be relying on our digital texts as well as an online classroom forum called Google Classroom. Please make a plan so that students can finish homework on time.
It is important for all students to have their interactive binders and pencil pouches as well as a couple of other items I have given them in class daily.

In this unit we will study how and why the Constitution was drafted and its impact on us today. During this unit students will be reading through the Constitution as it is written but we will have a lot of discussion on what it means. Continuation Info
There was a scheduling conflict that resulted in the date for Continuation being changed. CONTINUATION WILL NOW BE HELD ON MON-DAY, MAY 22nd. Please mark your calendars accordingly.
Our next meeting for Continuation is Thursday, February 9th.
Please begin collecting pictures of your 8th graders. We need 5-8 pictures of each student to use in our slideshow and memory book. Specifically we need a baby picture, an elementary picture, and a current picture and then some others in between. Send all digital pictures to [email protected].
Weighted Grades I do weight my grades for academic classes as follows: Tests/Projects = 40% Quizzes/Homework/Classwork = 35% Notes/Participation/ = 25% This does make it so that you can’t add up their total number of points and divide it by the total points possible and calculate a correct grade. Please email me if you have any questions.

6th Grade Writing- Students will read, summarize, and analyze chapters 14-27 in I am
Malala. Homework for the week will include completing written summaries if students do not finish
during class. For our grammar lesson, students will practice identifying pronouns and working on pro-
noun antecedent agreement. Homework on Wednesday night will include pages in the green grammar
skill book (see website for specific page numbers).
7th Grade Writing- Students will read, summarize, analyze various entries in The Diary of Anne
Frank and chapters from her biography, A Photographic Story of a Life. Students will complete summa-
ries of the entries read in class. If a student is absent, he or she should check my website for the
dates of the entries we read in class. Students will also practice using indefinite pronouns and making
pronouns and antecedents agree in number. Homework on Wednesday night will include pages in the
purple grammar skill book (see website for specific page numbers).
8th Grade Writing: As we continue on The Book Thief this week, we will still be focusing on identifying
evidence from the text to support analysis of the novel. Students will be asked to take home reading
on Thursday night - most students will access it online via the class website; a few paper copies will be
available to students who do not have internet access.
Then, we will also continue our sentence study this week as we learn about compound sentences and
comma splices. The flipped classroom approach seemed to work well, so students will be asked to
view an online video on Tuesday night in order to prepare for class on Wednesday.
6th Grade Math- We will have our MODULE 8 QUIZ on Tuesday. After that, we
are looking at exponents and prime factorization.
7th Grade Math- We are studying cross sections and angle relationships this week.
We will have a MODULE 8 QUIZ on Friday!
8th Grade Math- We continue to look at systems of linear equations this week. We
will focus on using elimination as a tool to solve the system.
Algebra- We will review graphing, substitution, elimination and special systems
before our 6.1-6.4 QUIZ on Thursday.
