JANUARY 26, 2016 RICHLAND HILLS CHRISTIAN CHURCH THE CHURCH VISITOR Time to Read Read! Read! Read! Sounds a little like a broken record sometimes, but I think it’s extremely important for us as we go forward for God. Of course, if you have time to read nothing else, I would say get a reading plan in the Gathering Area and start a journey through the Bible. But, if you have additional time, there are many different books covering many different topics in the Gathering Area. You may even be surprised and find it uplifting and encouraging! Understand that reading God’s Word and books on how to grow in your faith change the world we live in in ways we can’t perceive or understand. As we change, so all the people around us change. As we move closer to God, our lives are never the same. I guess an analogy we could look at is as proximity of a planet gets closer to the sun, the greater the gravitational pull and the more a planet is affected by it. The planet also tends to get warmer than it would be if farther away. Reading the Bible in particular but also other books about faith is about drawing closer to God. The more we learn and know of God, the more we come to understand just how much God loves us and wants a relationship with us. Ultimately, we find a life beyond our understanding. Remember…in just 15 minutes a day over an entire year you can read 20 average sized books! This is Serious Some time ago we were talking about Evangelism here at the church, and someone shared that we used to go into the neighborhood around us and reach out to people to join us here at Richland Hills. The question is: Do we have a burden for the lost in our community and, if so, what are we going to do about it? This is Serious! Even though we don’t see this as much in mainline churches today, some groups still do door to door evangelism. Wayne Alumbaugh, who has lived in Richland Hills for many years, has shared with me he would be willing, once again, to go and reach our community for Christ. He has invited anyone who would like to step out in faith and grow in this area to join him. As your pastor, I intend to begin going with Wayne as my schedule allows. Wayne did this for many years and is willing to share his gifts in this area with our church in order help us to stretch our faith beyond what we have experienced before. Wayne’s phone number, if you are interested in joining him in this important work, is 817-291-1926. ALWAYS WE!!! Never Me.

We Are STILL Thirsty Here

Last year, after we had the carpets cleaned, the Worship Committee made a decision to ask people to drink water in the sanctuary rather than coffee and other drinks, which sounds like a great idea. To make this possible, we are asking people to bring a case of water to the church for distribution on Sunday mornings at the coffee area. So, next time you are at the store and you see one of those huge pallets of bottled water, pick up a case for the church.

Children & Youth Survey

This Sunday an insert will be in the bulletin to gather information for our Children and Youth Ministry. We would ask that parents fill them out with the requested information so we can provide more opportunities for our youth and children to grow in their faith. After they are completed, simply place them in the offering plate so we can tabulate the information.

Nursery Attendant Position

Christian Education is accepting applications for the position of Nursery Attendant to care for our babies and toddlers on Sunday mornings.  As stated in our policy, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and should not be a member of RHCC.   If you know someone who would be interested in this position, please let them know that we are seeking a patient, loving, responsible caregiver for RHCC's youngest angels.   Applications are available in the church office.  Any applicant considered for this position will be subject to a background check prior to being hired.  Fees for required first aid and CPR/AED certifications will be paid for by the church. Contact Terri Williams at 817-994-9126

Save the date and mark your calendars for the DMF Sweetheart Banquet, February 13, 6:30 pm. We will be having a meal catered by Jerry's Italian Restaurant followed by entertainment provided by our own talent here at RHCC. So, if you like  a variety of music including songs from the  Beatles, the Monkees, Mary Robbins, Elvis, Brad Paisley, the Eagles, Buddy Holly, the Temptations, Neil Diamond, Adele, Frank Sinatra, and more, then come join us for a fun evening. The food and the entertainment is free and a good time is guaranteed for all. A nursery will be provided, and we will be providing pizza for the children. There will be a sign-up sheet in your bulletin on Sunday - We ask that you fill it out and place it in the offering plate. This will help us know approximately how much food to order, how many babies/toddlers/children will be here and who might be needing transportation for the evening. You will not want to miss out on this event!
