As 2015 comes to a close, many of us begin to look ahead to the new year. How will it be differ-ent than previous years? What will 2016 bring? How should I do things different?
As we contemplate these questions, it’s a great time to begin assessing our spiritual life. What can I do to build a more vibrant spiritual life?
It’s the start of each year that individuals at LifeJourney Church begin completing a per-sonal Soul Care Plan. Part 1: The Soul Care Self-Assessment will help you discern where you are on your spiritual journey and identify possible next steps. Part 2: Soul Care Plan will help you plan, build, and maintain a vibrant spiritual life throughout 2016.

New Course: Interfaith DialogueHave you ever wondered what other major religious tradi-
tions are like? How do they compare to Christianity? Want to know about Judaism, Buddhism, or Islam to be informed about the ways of these traditions?
Take part in an eight week exploration of the major religions of the world to see where they differ from and are similar to your own faith. The class will meet at LifeJourney on Monday evenings at 7 pm beginning January 18. RSVP for the class by completing the response form below.

General Confession: God, too often I allow myself to get trapped in a blah attitude, just going through the motions of life, acting as though I am a power-less victim. Forgive me. I acknowledge that happi-ness is a choice. Help me to get into the habit of declaring, “I choose to love my life!” Amen.

Distribution of the ElementsIf this is your first time with us: You are welcome to receive Holy Communion. You’re also welcome to just observe, if you prefer. You can take Communion alone, or with friends or family.
Ushers will release rows and direct you to a server. The server will offer you the wafer dipped in juice with a prayer. After receiving the elements, return to your seat by the side aisle. If you would like to receive Communion but are unable to come forward, please notify an usher.

z Discipleship 101 and 102 will be offered together with a short break in between. • Discipleship 101 will run January 21 to March 24, Thursdays
7:00-8:45 pm. • After two weeks off, Discipleship 102 will run April 14 to
June 9, Thursdays 7:00–8:45 pm.
z Membership class is integrated with 101/102. But those who are already members will be exempt from assignments geared specifically for new members. If you have taken Dis-cipleship 101/102 in the past, the material/format is a little different from just a few years ago, and the new year is good a time for renewal and recommitment.
Here are the topics that will be covered:
Following Jesus: Discipleship 101In Discipleship 101, you will do something you may have never
done before — engage the words of Jesus Christ directly for yourself, in all their power and mystery. Instead of relying on somebody else to tell you what these holy words mean, you will be encouraged to form your own thoughtful conclusions, with the benefit of open discussion with your classmates. We will focus on two major questions:
z What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus?
z How can I deepen my relationship with God?
You may think you already know the answer to both ques-tions, and maybe you do. But God always has something deeper for those who hunger and thirst. This course will challenge you to take a fresh look at what Jesus said and evaluate where you stand.
You will be encouraged to make concrete decisions about next steps, but at your own pace, when it feels right. You will be offered options for putting what you learn into practice, so that the rhythms of your life increasingly reflect the faith of your heart.
SoulShift: Discipleship 101/102, with Membership!
Thriving in Christian Community: Discipleship 102
As followers of Jesus, we are called to live together in spiritual community. Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” (Matthew 18:20). When we walk this journey together, pooling our spiritual power while sharing, loving, creating, challenging, pushing, tugging (and sometimes arguing) we have the best opportunity to grow our souls and to change the world.
You will have the chance to think deeply about how spiritual community (church) is supposed to work and where your partic-ular gifts and talents might best fit in the life of that community. We will explore vital topics like spiritual gifts, the purpose of worship, building friendship networks, the importance of small groups, generosity, and Jesus’ model for conflict resolution.
DetailsWe ask those who register for the class to promise to attend
every class. But we understand that life happens, so missing up to two classes (when ill or out of town) is permissible.
The cost for Discipleship 101/102 is $40. The class will be led by Pastors David Zier and Vivian Wyatt.
