Meet a member:Hello,My name is Wendie Hazlett. I live in Acton, Ca. I own, work on, and drive a 1965 Ford Ranchero. It has a 289 engine, mostly stock (besides the wheels), a/c and working original radio. It is black primer for now but, I plan to install a 302ci and paint it purple.

Well, it is now 2009. Wow, does time fly when you’re having fun. 2008 was full of car shows, new meeting spots, Fabulous Fords, and fun events with our ford clubs.

This year we plan do some tech workshops, club trips, car shows and a poker run. We ended the last year with a club get together at Bob’s Big Boy. A moderate

Tech Talk:

Even though points have been around for a long time, many car enthusiasts still use this type of ignition system. Here are things to remember about your points:

the average life span is about 10,000 miles the condenser should always be replaced

with new points the fixed contact is grounded through the

distributor housing, while the movable contact is connected to the negative side of the coil (and condenser)

before adjusting the gap, be sure that the distributor cam lobe is contacting the movable arm at its highest point

always adjust the gap when installing new points (typical Ford= .017”)

a matchbook’s cover thickness can be used in a ‘pinch’ if a feeler gauge isn’t available

At our last workshop we restored the rear suspension with new leaf springs, shocks, shackles, bushings, and hardware (inc. u-bolts).
