While January sees the beginning of the New Year, many of us also regard it as the true beginning of the long, hard winter. In this sense it is apt that the virtue for January is COURAGE. The quote for this month is Isaiah 41:10, “Do not be afraid; I am with You” “Be not afraid!” is also what the angel tells Mary at the annunciation. (Lk 1:30) and at the resurrection, another angel uses the same words to tell the women at the tomb that Christ has risen. (Mt 28:5) Jesus himself uses these words to strengthen his apostles. (Jn 6:20) It takes a lot of courage to practice and be true to our Catholic faith. This month at Our Lady of Perpetual Help we will demonstrate our courage to live our faith. Happy New Year and welcome back! We have some exciting plans for this term and look forward to another great term of activities for our children. To recap the close of last year, many thanks to Cath Collins who arranged for the Poinsettia sales at OLPH which raised approximately $2,000 for the school this year. Thank you also to all the amazing parent volunteers who coordinated gorgeous and generous Christmas baskets for those in need – it is a huge amount of work and I’m sure they were wel-comed with so much appreciation. As part of the Christmas basket giving, we were able to raise more funds through the purchasing of gift cards through www.funscript.com which is coordinated by our fantastic parent Stacey O’Keeffe.

Starting January, we will continue our focus on community giving with each class preparing for the class community service event. In addition, the students will be “getting in the groove” with the hip hop program during their gym classes this year which will culminate in a school performance on February 12th. Finally, we will have our January CSAC meeting at 7:00 pm in the library on January 29th.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me anytime for information.

Thanks,

Natalia Dukszta CSAC Chair, OLPH (C) 416-320-8887 [email protected]

This fall 40 students from grades 2-6 took part in an after school musical theatre program, under the direction of Sarina Condello. The children worked collaboratively with heart and soul, singing, dancing and acting the roles of African animals to perform their rendition of the Lion King. It was a ROARING success! Parents, students and staff were entertained by the captivating cast, during two shows in December. We are extremely proud of all the actors and actresses who told the story on stage with remarkable enthusiasm and confidence!
