I. MarketingAnalysis

1.1 FoodsPackagingWhenIvisitedJapaninJuly2017,thefirstthingIreallyadmireishowprofessionalJapanesesocietyisindoingbusiness.Althoughbusinessesthatrunaresmall-scalebusinessesorSMEs,theyareabletoprovideservicesand products that are very high quality and look expensive. I myself as a middle-scale businessman veryimpressedwithwhatisservedbySMEsinJapan,rangingfromhygiene,products,tothepackagingisnoticedbythebusinessmeninJapan,donotbesurprisedifthepriceissetinJapanmoreexpensivethaninIndonesia.Competition in the area of Nakamise Dori was fairly healthy, because the price of a product in Japan isregulatedbytheJapaneseGovernmentitself,sothatnoonebusinessmanwhocankillothersimilarbusinessesbyslammingpricesorbyothermeans.Duetotheexistenceoftheserules,thetouristsfeelsafebecausetheywillnotbefooledbypriceissueswhenbuyinganythinginJapan.ThemostinterestingthingformeisthefoodpackagingintheareaofNakamiseDori,asabusinessman,Iknowthatthepackagingisnottooimportantandwellthoughtbythesellersandbuyers,becausethepackagingonlyprovidesaddedvaluebutdoesnothaveameaningfulvaluethatisverymeaningful,packagingisbasicallyjusta cover of a product to protect the productwhichwill eventually only be discarded, not for consumption.However,allproducts inJapanfromcheaptoexpensivehaveverygood,neat,anduniquepackaging.This istheattractionforeveryonewhoseesandmakesthedesiretobuyhigher.

After I visited Japan,mymind becamemore open to think aboutmaking a good and attractive packaging,because indirectly itcanmakeamarketingstrategy forourownbusiness.Whenwehavethesameproductwithothercompetitors,butwehaveamoreattractivepackagingcomparedtocompetitors,thenourbusinesswill bemore seen by consumers, although the price offered would be different considering the packagingrequiresaconsiderablecostdependingonthematerialsused.

AsfarasIfoundandhadtimetobuyit,everyfoodsellerinJapanhasacustomizedpackaginginaccordancewith his shop, unlike in Indonesia, which usually just wrap the food with a general packaging that can bepurchased anywhere without any name of the store. In addition, the packaging of each food is made asattractiveaspossibleandconsistsofavarietyofbeautifulcolors,thepackagingisverykeepingtheproductsoasnottofallapartbetweenoneproductwithanotherproduct. ItcanbesaidasamarketingstrategyofthebusinessmaninJapantoconsumersawareoftheproductsothatwhenconsumershavetriedtheirfoodandfeel interested to buy again, packaging will play a role because it has the necessary information for itscustomers.
