I recognise that the past ten weeks were a particularly difficult and stressful time for our whole school community and I wish to sincerely thank our parents/carers, students and teachers for their dedication to education throughout this period. I am amazingly proud of the way that our community adapted to new ways of teaching and learning, facilitating education in a new and removed landscape. I also thank our amazingly passionate, dedicated and talented teachers for the extraordinary efforts that went into establishing and managing their online learning platforms and compiling comprehensive learning plans. Last Friday I had the chance to personally thank the staff for their efforts during this time. Thank you to Dinner on the Table for catering. Hopefully I will get the chance in the coming weeks to hold a Coffee and Conversation morning to celebrate with and thank the community. Pick Up/Drop Off Thank you to the school community for your support during pick up and drop off times over the past fortnight. The Department of Education and NSW Government continue to support a model of limited parent entry into the school with social distancing protocols followed outside the gates for parents. Kindergarten parents may continue to pick up their child in the afternoon from the Jasper Quad with all other students asked to meet their family in a prearranged area outside the school. We look forward to welcoming all parents into the school as soon as the advice changes. Contact Details To ensure there is clear communication between school and home, it is extremely important that parents/carers notify the school of any changes to their contact details. The most common reason for school staff to contact parents/carers is to discuss a matter concerning your child. However, there are a number of emergency situations when we may need to contact a parent/carer, including when a child is ill/injured and needs to be collected from school. Please notify the school office of changes to your contact details, including mail and email addresses, phone numbers and emergency contacts. Health and Safety As the impacts of COVID-19 continue, the health and wellbeing of our staff, students and school community is of utmost importance. If your child is unwell, they MUST stay home. This is important for their health, as well as the health of their peers and teacher. The best way to protect you and your family is the same as you would against the common cold: It may sound simple, but these are some of the best ways to limit the spread of disease. Students and staff continue to practice this every day at Jasper Road PS. Wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and water Cough and sneeze into your elbow or a tissue Stay at home if you feel unwell Avoid close contact with anyone with flu-like symptoms 1

At Jasper Road PS, we will continue to report toparents in late Term 2 with a report format that focuses on thecore subjects of English and Mathematics. Changes to the opportunity classplacement process for 2020 Year 4students

The 2021 Year 5 opportunity class placement process was puton hold in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation.

The department has revised and simplified the timeline for theOC placement process to ensure that students and families canhave certainty about their placement as soon as possible.

The changes include:

To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students acrossNew South Wales, students will be offered places based onlyon their test results this year – there will be no schoolassessment scores.

There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tighttimeframes.
