Reawakening the Filipino tradition of ‘bayanihan’• Reawakening the Filipino tradition of bayanihanbayanihan has
been an overarching theme of CUI’s program in the Philippines.
• The term comes from the Tagalog words bayanbayan(community) and anihananihan (harvest) and has its origins in the tradition of a community coming together for harvest and sharing in the fruits of their efforts.
• Today the term refers to communal effort in which shared challenges are overcome through community unity, cooperation and partnership.
Reawakening the Filipino tradition of ‘bayanihan’
Our program is placing emphasis on localizing MDGs within urban governance
processes, helping local authorities to realize national and global poverty
eradication goals.
Reawakening the Filipino tradition of ‘bayanihan’The CUI project team, together with the Canadian and Filipino youth, will work toward promoting the achievement of good urban governance, the creation of sustainable cities, the improvement of the quality of urban life, and the eventual reduction of urban poverty while reawakening the bayanihanbayanihan spirit.
