March 4-6, 2016COLLEGE INVITATION
A Message from Summit Chair and Co-Chair
Our Purpose
The Joint Collegiate Black Student Summit is convened to unite black student leaders and promote leadership among collegiate communities in the eastern region. The summit aims to raise awareness of social issues facing the black community, create strong connections amongst the black community, and further establish the voice of young black leadership in society.
Our purpose is to provide a national forum where young black leaders can engage in a dialogue on how we can successfully develop the black community both on and off college campuses.
The 2016 Joint Collegiate Black Students Summit, will be held at the University of Rochester March 4-6, 2016. This summit will stand as a forum in which black students and minority organizations from multiple colleges, can come together for education, inspiration, and unity.
Essentially, the summit is an inspiration think-tank where young black leaders can begin to build the world they want to see. As a result of this mission, the 2016 JCBSS will focus in on threeareas of professional and academic concentrations impacting the black community: Health & Medicine, S.T.E.M., and Social Sciences.
Through the course of this weekend we intend to equip each summit delegate with the information, network, and empowerment to go back to their own campus and affect real change. However, what is most exciting is the community change that will spark out of this historic moment in the greater movement of young black leadership.

Dear Fellow Student Leader,
For the past few years, youth across the nation, have been invested in discussions around race and diversity. This past year alone, many colleges including the University of Rochester experienced significant campus and regional efforts centered on advancing the societal, political, and economic status of minorities and underrepresented communities. Students, faculty, staff, and community members joined together to bring awareness and some resolves to the issues facing our communities. This year, we want to do something different and champion a historic gathering of
young black leadership nationally. We believe it is time to begin providing solid solutions to some of the problems that students face, whether present or in the future. What better way to do this than to call young black college leaders for a summit hosted in a joint collegiate manner at the
University of Rochester. The 2016 Joint Collegiate Black Student Summit is this gathering.
The Summit will convene with the intention to unite black leadership, promote collegiate leadership among all minorities, and engage in dialogue about solutions to the issues before the black community. March 4-6, 2016, top universities and colleges from across the country will come together around the summit theme: "Beyond All Limits". Certainly, this summit and the success there of will engage the national collegiate community in a new frontier of dialogue around solutions for building the black community. This summit will provide students, staff, and faculty of many universities
the opportunity to engage and lead a dialogue on national change.
As a young student leader, your voice, your life experiences and perspective, will certainly help many of your peers looking to impact the world. On behalf of the 2016 JCBSS Committee we formally invite you to be a part of this 2016 Joint Collegiate Black Student Summit and help lead this intercollegiate movement as "Summit Partner".
As a student leader and student group, your participation and leadership will not only change our community but also empower our fellow peers in young black leadership.
As we move ahead in building this summit, we look forward to leading this national dialogue together with you and fellow black student leaders from across the region.
