My Indulgence

Surprise!!! While Paul Roger is away, Mez will take advantage of the opportunity to sneak in one more

appearance of the Mezzaganda. This weeks meeting was very informal, chaired by Past, Past Pres

Mrs Hunter. And what a blast we had! The roll call was small but my goodness, did we make it count!

The Tonga Team (I am thinking Paul Roger, for his sins!), have set up a Blog to share their experiences and

photos to Club members and for the less computer savvy, I have downloaded some of the info and the

photos and included these at the end of this weeksnewsletter. The Blog reads from current down to

beginning.

Mrs Hunters Take on Meeting Number 811 25 Sep 14

Roll Call:

Too bloody many apologies, here are the attendees:

Mrs Hunter, Glenn and Glenda, Jan Carolyn, Davis S, Colin and Cathy, Bruce, Ian and

Mez.

Opening:

No toast, no formalities at all, very casual, total disrespect started the

meeting at 6.38pm.

Mrs Hunter gave the team a quick rundown on her trip to China, which

apparently had changed since her last visit, which was, if my memory

serves me correctly, 1986 Mrs Hunter? That would be roughly 24 years

ago, yup, things change over the years!

The Tonga Team Blog has been well received.

Discussion ensued regards next weeks meeting. Mrs Hunter advised that she will be an

apology and Glenn and Glenda also advised that they would be absent. It was agreed that

Glenda will contact Hayley/Natalie Jupe to discuss an alternate date for the presentation

of the cheque. Cathy and Mez advised Glenda that Natalie was currently overseas and

wont be back for a couple of weeks, so she wouldnt have been able to attend the

meeting next week anyway.

Mrs Hunter decided that we would forgo normal reports and allow everyone to raise anything they felt

was relevant or of importance and like the good little Principal Mrs Hunter is, randomly went around the

table. Tonights delightfuldining fare was a seafood pie, potato salad and tiramisu!

Bruce: Hannah is having a sleepover with the Wells family tonight, Mrs Hunter happily endorsed the

family. Hannah will then spend the weekend with Mez helping around the house.

Mez: Although initially Hannah was going to give Mez a hand with tidying up downstairs, Mez decided

that time would be better spent retiling the bathroom. Mez has been to the Hardware store and

bought the gluey stuff that holds the tiles on, the little plastic thingys that space the tiles and a red

plastic claw thingy that you use to spread the gluey stuff. Ian was most impressed with Mezs

technical terms. Mez also got a set of goggles and a surgical mask, which surprised the heck out of

Ian, but Mez smugly informed him that she will have to sandpaper the old glue off. Ah, said Ian, but of

course!! Mez then asked if anyone had an electric sander. Glenn to the rescue. David Stevens also

advised that he had a squeegee thingy which you apparently need to fill in the gaps once you take the

plastic thingys out. Far out!! This is getting bigger than Ben Hur! Mrs Hunter wants photos.

Carolyn: There is an Abba Show coming up which Carolyn is happy to chase up and bring more details

back to the Club. Given Carolyns show of organising a social event for the Club, Mez invited her to

join the Club Service Committee, which Carolyn happily agreed to.

Jan: Jan advised that she had nothing but advised that Cathy and Colin would likely have some BBQ

information.

Colin: Ill leave it to the Boss. Smart move Colin, and thankyou for yet again getting the evening meal

from the General Store.

Cathy: Bunning BBQ is on Sunday 12 Oct 14. Cathy has enough workers for the afternoon shift but

would like one more for the morning shift. Ian happily agreed to assist. Cathy also believes she now has

enough people and a number of volunteers to collect stores etc.

Glen: Hannah has a fetish for big after Glenn and Glenda took her for a visit to the Big Merino at

Goulburn. They will be taking Hannah to the theme parks after Xmas and Hannah is already plotting

their trip to include as many big as possible.

Glenn also advised that he would be approaching the Board in regards to assistance with the Outward

Bound adventure and asked for Rotarians thoughts. All were in favour. Other Club members expressed

interest in assisting and Mrs Hunter suggested we set up an account for Rotarians to donate money to.

Again all were in favour.

GlendaGiven the large number of absences expected for next week, including both Glenda and Glenn

and Mrs Hunter, Glenda suggested we forgo a normal meeting and meet at the Jerra Pub for the Trivia

Night. Mez will send out an email calling for numbers so we can book a table and have a meal at the

Pub.

Glenda has been found out! She is receiving approximately 3 messages a day from a secret admirer,discovered by Glenn on Glendas NEWIPhone 6!!

Tonight is a Mystery Night and Glenda has organised a Movie Quiz. Mez made personalised placemats

for everyone and brought the popcorn but made the mistake of microwaving it at the beginning of the

night and by the time we got to the quiz the popcorn was all gone.

Glenda led a great Quiz on Movie Titles, Actors, Songs, Artists amid great fun and laughter. We all paired up and Glenn and

Cathy constantly talked themselves out of winning answers. I think this caption says it all.

Anyone want to play musical chairs?

Bruce and Carolyn gave it a pretty good shot, as did Jan and Colin. David S and Ian just couldnt quite get it together and I think

Davids answer to most questions was haveanother glass of wine!

However there can only be one winner, and as they saying goes. Winners are grinners!!

We nailed it!! Not quite sure who is photo bombing who!!

And on a final note, one of the movie themes was Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?. Mez has been sent home to study and

watch the movie, as there was shock and horror that she has not seen it!!

This weeks reportwas submitted by Mez.

What an absolutely beautiful morning!! Hannah and I negotiated on what time I would wake her this

morning for her first market duty, and all I can say is we should have made it 10mins earlier!! We

were chatting in the car on the way and I mentioned that Chris had dropped off a dozen eggs to my

home and what a lovely gesture that was. Hannah said what is that? I told Hannah they come from chooks. Hannah just gave me that look

and said, I meant what is a dozen, I know what eggs are!Doh!

Jans brother John joined us this morning and it was great having that extra hand to help out, not to mention Hannah as well. Jon Wells did

the first shift of parking duty and Hannah and I went and bought both Jon and Hannah some breakfast (Jons shout) and Hannah then

joined Jon on parking duty. Following parking duty, Hannah and I collected the table money.

A mobile phone and a car key were handed in and still not claimed before we left.

We ran out of bags Anton Pemmer! In case you didnt get the brief in the handover, it is the Market Masters responsibility to restock bags

at the market. We could have sold a heap more, as they were very popular this morning!

Hi all,

We are having a great time in Tonga and feel we are really making a difference to the school at Lapaha.

As always with a job like this the initial prep work takes a long time and we will not see the real results until next week.

However we know one thing for sure, we have a great team of volunteers here, and we are all working really well for the

delivery of a great result.

So if you are reading our blog, please add some comments and encouragement, or maybe just tick like. Its always good to know

the folks back home are interested and following what we are doing.

Day 3 photos

Photo 1. President Paul with some of the student's parents who provided us lunch on day three. The many dishes you can see on

the table consisted of fish dishes (cooked and raw), chicken dishes, a roast piglet, yam dishes, sausages, egg dishes, curries, a

very traditional Tongan dish of Tarro leaves filled with corned beef and coconut, mud crab, sandwiches, salads, fruit, and much,

much, more. Needless to say we put a dent in it, but by no means ate more than half. The student's mothers came in later and

enjoyed what we could not manage.

purposes. One of providing security, but secondly and equally important keeping the pigeons and other birds from the classrooms

(they make a bit of a mess).

Photo 5. Vicki leaning into her tasks. Having finished her first task Vicki moved on to removing all the hinges and locks etc. from

the doors, in preparation for the Goulbourn boys (Grant and Andrew) to repanel any holed doors and generally make all the

doors serviceable and ready for repainting (about 12 doors all up).

Photo 2. The second fish dish which was free of soy sauce, so Vicki had first crack at this dish, before everyone else got into

it. Absolutely delicious.

Day 3 More good workLast night after a hard day of slog at the school, we freshened up and headed out to a local Chinese Restaurant for dinner. The

restaurant did not have a banquet menu as such, so Paul (Roger) did the ordering and a great feast was consumed. Special dishes

were cooked to cater to gluten free requirements (definitely no Soy Sauce - a challenge in a Chinese restaurant). Photos of

some of the delicious dishes were taken and will hopefully appear in the blog later tonight or early tomorrow. The restaurant

had VB beer and some very nice Australian red wine from the Griffith region. After the meal we returned home to what is

becoming a nightly tradition of tasting each others duty free (medicinal purposes only) purchases. Last night's was a Macallum

Select Oak single malt. There was also a DJ dual between Chilly, Grant, and Geoff. Each played music from their

IPhones/notepads. Each had their own era of music and all were good. Chilly felt that he won, but the popular vote went to

Grant, and Geoff expressed the view that it was all very unfair. Thank you guys for the entertainment.

Day 3 started with the team breakfast, in the breakfast house. Platters of fresh fruit were provided by our guest house staff,

and we also enjoyed cereal and toast (acquired during our supermarket trip on Day 1). Then it was all aboard the buses and off

to the school for another day of toil.

Today we continued the prep of the classrooms. More windows were removed and cleaned, and work on stripping and sandingthe window frames in classrooms 2 and 3 got underway. Classroom 1 reached the stage where the window frames are now ready

for painting (standard of preparation approved by Terry - the 2 Pauls though it was ready yesterday, but were persuaded that

more prep could be done and we had to wait for the drop cloths as we are not trusted as tidy (drip free) painters.

The additional wood surrounds ready for the security mesh were also completed for classrooms 2 and 3 and the upper mesh was

installed for classroom 1 and half of classroom 2. (now waiting for more mesh to be delivered). Lots of other things were

happening too, with doors being removed and repairs started, anti pigeon mesh going up in spaces in the eaves, etc.

Lunch was again huge, provided by the PTA. We are thinking there may be some weight gains if we are not careful, despite all

the physical labour.

Day 2 all work and little play

each classroom. Tony was assisted on Day 2 by Sue and Sandra and did an

excellent job on the first classroom.

OUR HISTORY

In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club based in Jerrabomberra. Bill

Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentoring the development of the new club. (Peter

Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).

Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 26

members.

Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the

Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years, and we now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for

6.30 pm).

(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club Newsletter and a design for the Club banner. There were some

good and some not so good suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name Jerraganda and David Stevens was the

successful designer of our club banner. The design incorporated a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate

adjacent to the Community Centre. Both the Jerraganda and the Club logo have evolved to keep pace with modern times.

We have always been, and continue to be, a vibrant and fun loving club providing valued community service, both locally and internationally.

Our motto is,
