Slavery and Deliverance

WE BELIEVE

Jesus Christ conquered death for us. At our baptisms he gave new life to our souls. He will also give new life to our bodies in the kingdom of heaven.

FAITH WORDS

EXODUS is the Old Testament story of how God freed the He-brews in Egypt. Exodus is also the second book of the Old Testament.

YAHWEH is the most sacred name of God, spoken to Moses. It means “I am who I am.”

PROMISED LAND refers to Ca-naan, the sacred place God prom-ised to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the Israelites in Egypt.

FAITH FOCUS

Just as God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, so he can deliver us from all that enslaves us.

PASSOVER / EUCHARIST

WE BELIEVE

The same God who delivered his people from slavery in Egypt delivered us from sin and death through his Son, Jesus Christ.

FAITH WORDS

PASSOVER is the Jewish celebra-tion of the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt.

PASCHAL MYSTERY is the way that Jesus’ Passion, death, Resur-rection, and Ascension saved us from sin and gave us life after death.

Commandment and Fulfillment

WE BELIEVE

Jesus revealed the ultimate meaning of the Ten Commandments and taught us how to keep God’s laws in the spirit of love.

ARK OF THE COVENANT was a special box that held the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments.

MANNA is the bread like food that God gave the Israelites in the desert.

WE BELIEVE

Prayer will help us know God’s will for us. Constant prayer is especially important.

CHOSEN PEOPLE in the Old Testament were Abraham and his descendants, whom God had se-lected to receive his word. People who choose to follow God’s word today are also chosen people.

DISCERNMENT is discovering, with God’s help, God’s will for our lives.
