POLIT ICAL CANDIDATES
NEED TO BALANCE BUDGETS WITH
SCHEDULES, WHILE KEEPING
A KEEN EYE ON THEIR
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL
CREDENTIALS
f there ever was a case for flying privately, securely and confidentially, then it would be for a presidential election campaign. Even more so, if it is as colourful and controversial as the one presently unfolding in the US. High profile political candidates need to balance budgets with schedules,
convenience and appearances, while keeping a keen eye on their environmental and social credentials.
Whichever way you look at it, flying private is the only answer, as it is for many corporate users. American charter booking app Jetsmarter has done some digging into the transports of this year’s US presidential hopefuls, and the results are revealing. Democratic Party hopeful Hillary Clinton is the only contender using a non-American built aircraft, a Dassault Falcon 900B. We could not find any clear indication if this aircraft is chartered, or somehow owned by the Clinton Clan. Her nemesis Bernie Sanders, in contrast, makes his way across the campaign trail in a chartered Gulfstream 200.
On the Republican side, Ted Cruz and his failed rival Marco Rubio, have both used a relatively modest aircraft, the Cessna Citation Excel — presumably not shared. The big bird in the race, of course, is the refurbished Boeing 757 of Donald Trump, complete with his name looming large on the fuselage. Trump Force One (N757AF) was built in 1991, and previously flown by Danish airline Sterling, followed by Mexican airline Taesa (notice the irony), and finally owned and flown by Microsoft’s very own Paul Allan, prior to the sale to Trump in 2011.
By November, we will know if bigger is better. In more ways than one.
