B Objectives
1. What is the main purpose for this course?
The focus of this course will be on preparing the future dentist in dealing with advanced issues in pediatric dentistry; issues such as treatment under general anesthesia, managing dental trauma and responding to medical emergencies in the dental setting. Students will be expected to manage the child patient comprehensively, encompassing behavior management, comprehensive treatment planning and completing all required dental treatment and needs.
During clinical sessions, students will be asked questions pertaining to the dental treatments and procedures. Students are therefore expected to be knowledgeable in all anticipated clinical procedures to be performed. Students will benefit from the clinical manual in preparing for each clinical session.
The primary goal of this course is to guide students in providing comprehensive dental treatment for children from 6 through 12 years. Comprehensive treatment provided places emphasis on patient education, management, treatment planning, and prevention of dental disease as well as preventive and interceptive orthodontic care.
2. Briefly describe any plans for developing and improving the course that are being implemented. (e.g. increased use of IT or web based reference material, changes in content as a result of new research in the field)
• Updating the reference text • In order to enhance and boost students' learning abilities, evidence-based methods will
be introduced in the course in the form of case-based series performed by student and will be assigned two case with relevant clinical and supportive data in order to reach differential and/or definitive diagnosis ofthe case.
