Dear loyal season ticket holder:

Welcome to the 2011-12 NHL season, our 14th campaign in North Carolina. We feel that we are in a strong position this year to add another chapter to our franchise’s proud history in this state, and thank you for being a part of it with us.

Last season brought all of us several memorable moments, including the Hurricanes participating in NHL Premiere to begin the year, the Calder Trophy-winning rookie season of Jeff Skinner, Rod Brind’Amour’s jersey retirement and, of course, the 58th NHL All-Star Game at the RBC Center. As we transitioned our team to be younger and faster, we compiled 91 points, unfortunately one game short of the playoffs. This was a good first step towards being a playoff team in the future.

The offseason led to a number of changes on the ice, as well as a few adjustments off of the ice. As was originally planned, Hall of Famer Ron Francis stepped out from behind the bench and returned to an important front-office role as director of hockey operations to work with me on an everyday basis. Stanley Cup-winning coach Dave Lewis joined Paul Maurice’s coaching staff as an assistant, as did our own Stanley Cup champion Rod Brind’Amour.

In early July, with the opening of free agency, the Hurricanes added a number of important pieces to our roster, highlighted by four-time All-Star defenseman and 2011 Stanley Cup-winner Tomas Kaberle. We also signed wingers Alexei Ponikarovsky and Anthony Stewart to give more size to the team’s forward lines, added Tim Brent to provide depth down the middle, and found an experienced partner in goal for Cam Ward when Brian Boucher chose to join our organization.

Those players join the familiar faces that make up the Hurricanes’ core, as All-Stars Eric Staal, Cam Ward and Jeff Skinner continue to be complemented by players including forwards Jussi Jokinen, Chad LaRose, Tuomo Ruutu and Brandon Sutter, and defensemen Tim Gleason, Jamie McBain and Joni Pitkanen. And, as the recent years’ draft classes continue to develop with the Charlotte Checkers, we look for the likes of Drayson Bowman, Zach Boychuk, Zac Dalpe and Justin Faulk to continue working toward joining the team as full-time NHL players.

I hope you share my excitement about the 2011-12 season, and, as always, thank you for your ongoing investment and support for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Sincerely,

Jim Rutherford President and General Manager

WELCOME LETTER
