NCC

Students are encouraged to enrol with NCC at Patkar and Varde College (boys)

and at GSS College (girls). Our NCC cadets have brought many laurels to the

college. Mr. Rohit Jain of this was adjudged as the BEST CADET. Perhaps this is

a rare occasion where student cadet of other college had been selected as the Sr.

Under Officer by the Patkar and Varde College.

NSS

A separate room with computer and internet facility is available for conduct of

NSS activities. Our College has two Units comprising of 150 students. Each

student has to participate in various activities/ programmes in order to complete

120 hours, whereby he/she is awarded 10 grace marks at the end of academic year.

The NSS Unit has also organized innovative programmes like ‗Zero Death on

Track‘ at Goregaon railway station in the year 2010-2011. The NSS Unit tries to

develop among the students a sense of social and civic responsibility and also

develop capacity to meet emergencies and disasters. This year 2013-14 following

programmes were organized: friendship day, Blood Donation camp, Thalassemia

detection test, Personality Development workshop, Aids awareness campaign,

survey on health and education, 10 days civil defense course, lectures on Dengue

prevention, gender sensitization, vote for better India, etc.

Doctor on call facility is available in the college. Beside this the college has

appointed personal counsellor for students who visits the college once a week.

The college provides free internet facility to staff and students. With the financial

help from the UGC internet facility is provided through FIREWALL to the entire

Year 2012-13

Various cultural activities were conducted in the year. The following are the details.

A. College level competitions

At the college level various competitions were organized. A ‗Cultural week‘ was

organized in the month of December. Students took an active part in these

activities.

Teacher‘s Day-The Teacher‘s day programme was celebrated on 5th September

2012. Students performed various cultural programmes such as Dance, Songs and

Instruments playing.

A talent search competition named ‗Youth Icon‘ was organized by Dainik

Lokmat on 27th August 2012. This competition was based on Ramp walk, Dance

or Song presentation and General Knowledge and General awareness. Miss.

Tejashvini Gawas – T.Y.B.M.S and Mr. Sodadasi Santa Raju – F.Y.B.M.S. were

the winners of the competition.

B. INTERCOLLEGIATE LEVEL ACTIVITIES

1. YOUTH FESTIVAL – Youth Festival is considered as a prestigious event

organized by University of Mumbai. Our students participated and exhibited their

talents in various competitions such as Skit, Instrument playing. Literacy events

such as quiz, debate and elocution, Art events such as collage, poster making and

on the spot painting.

2. ANUBHAV FESTIVAL: - Anubhav Festival was organized by Dalmia College,

Malad. On 30th

& 31st August 2012. Our students participated in large number in

C. Annual Day Programme

The annual Day was celebrated on 23rd Dec. 2012.

Year 2013-14

During this academic year various cultural activities were conducted to motivate and

encourage our students to showcase their talents in the activities of their liking. A large

number of students took an active part in different cultural competitions held within the

college as well as at intercollegiate level and won many prizes.

A cultural week was organized in the months of December during which various cultural

competitions were held at the college level. Many students from different sections of our

college B.Com, BMS and BSc (IT) actively participated in all these competition with a

lot of fun and enthusiasm.

Intercollegiate Cultural Competitions:

Our students took an active part in various intercollegiate cultural competitions

organized by various colleges of University of Mumbai and won many prizes. Particulars

of the same are given below.

(1) Youth Festival: Youth Festival is organized by University of Mumbai every year.

This festival is organized at the Zonal level for qualifying rounds. In this academic

year our Students participated in various competitions such as Skit, one Act play,

Mono Acting, Group singing, Tabla (Percussion Event) and various Fine Arts and

Literary Events.

Festival i-BLITHE. In this festival 39 colleges took part in various cultural and

sports events. Our students have won 1st prize in street play.

(3) ZESTY: It is an intercollegiate festival organized by Nagindas Khandwala College,

Malad. Many of our students actively participated in Rangoli, Sketch, Nail Art,

Mehendi & Tattoo Making Competitions and won 1st Prize in Sketching and 2nd

Prize in Tattoo Making

(4) SPRINZ: Sprinz is another intercollegiate Cultural festival organized by Nagindas

Khandwala College, our students won 2nd prize in street play.

(5) JAL-UTSAV: Jal-Utsav is an intercollegiate festival organized by Patkar College,

Goregaon. Our students have won1st Prize in Street Play and 2nd Prize in Mono

Acting (Mr. Malhal Phadke)

(6) DALMIA LIONS UTSAV: It is an intercollegiate cultural festival organized by

P.D. Lions College; Malad Manny of our Students took part in various events like

Bollywood Dance, Folk Dance, Poster Making, Master Chef and Street Play. The

Street Play presented by our students won 2nd Prize.

(8) Thakur College also organized an intercollegiate Competition 'Mera Vote,

MeraHaq'. Our College got 3rd Prize in Street Play. Our Students also won

2nd Prize in Poster Making Competition.

(9) 'ASHVA Mahotsav' a festival organized by N.S.S. Unit of J.M. Patel College (our

own college). Our Students actively participated in Dumb Charades, T-shirt

Painting, Best out of waste, Poetry Recitation and Rangoli Competitions and won1st

Prize in Rangoli, 2nd Prize in T-shirt Painting and 3rd Prize in Dumb

Charades.

(10) UDAN FESTIVAL was organized by University of Mumbai in

GhanshyamdasSaraf College at Malad. Students of self finance courses BMS & BSc

The career project aims at providing information about a career in depth

particularly if students aspire to take it up. The information about careers was

presented in the form of charts, posters and brief presentations.

2. APY ( Anna Poorna Yojana ):-

This activity has been designed to encourage the students to try their hand at

entering the field of small scale business hence this activity is designed to make

students understand the concept of small scale business and increase self reliance

approach. The activity which was spread over a period of 2 days was a grand

success as students could satisfactorily dispose off their wares at reasonable

profits.

NSS ACTIVITIES

2010-2011

Our NSS student volunteers are highly active and take part in many activities round the

year.

NSS unit had organised Blood Donation and Thalassamemia detection camp.

NSS unit had also conducted rural camp at Sangvi Village, Karjat.

2011-2012

NSS unit had organised Blood Donation and Thalassamemia detection camp.

Workshops on Stress Management and UPSC Examinations, lectures on Human

Rights etc. were conducted.

A rural camp of seven days was held at Sangvi Village, Karjat.

Other activities like survey on HIV/AIDS, street play to spread awareness on

cleanliness, save girl child etc. were conducted.

The students volunteers of NSS have rendered help in conducting various college

activities. They have also cleaned the campus and beautified the campus with

WarliPaintings.

Street plays have been staged by NSS volunteers at various places and they have

won several prizes for their street play.

One of our T.Y.B.Com student scripted and directed the plays.

The play directed by that student won the 1st prize in Extension activity at

UDAAN, 2012.

100 students attended a lecture on “Mission Mritunjay” by Goregaon Police

Station & Shiv Sena.Here the volunteers were given guidance regarding the care to

be taken during unforeseen circumstances. The Police Inspector of Goregaon

Police Station informed the volunteers about the precautions to be taken in event

of chain snatching, attack from strangers, molestation etc. The Police Personnel

showed video clippings of real life incidents happening on roads, railway stations,

and deserted roads which were caught on CC TV cameras.

10 days Civil Defence Workshop.40 Volunteers participated in the workshop.

Mr.GovindJha was the resource person for the workshop. Both theory sessions

&Practicals were conducted. The theory sessions included lectures on types of

calamities/disasters, how to rescue people during and after calamities, preventive

measures to be taken before & after calamities.

Practicals included first aid treatment, use of rope (method of tying a rope & use

it ) during rescue operations, use of band aid to tie arms, jaw in case of fracture,

tying the head & forehead, use of fire extinguisher. Examinations were conducted

for all volunteers who participated in the workshop. Mr.ShahidMulla stood first

securing highest marks.

association with Women Development Cell of our College.

Electricity Project –July 2013 to February 2013

The project is about creating awareness about saving energy and prevents wastage.

Volunteers have to adopt 7 family at-least in his area where he stays or even in adopted

area. In first visit he/she can do survey of the appliances in family and to give tips/ hints

on energy saving & find out the point of wastage of electricity. Insubsequent months the

volunteers have to go back to family and observe whether the consumption hasreduced

or not. If it is not then he has to again motivate the family to prevent energy wastage.

Yuvak Biradari

In the month of August, 2013, 10 students participated in Awareness Campaign on

the maintenance of societies. This survey was conducted in 60 different societies.

The Meeting of the RRC committee was held on July, 2013. The NSS –RRC Calendar

2013-14 was discussed and dates for the activities were finalised.

Membership drive: The members of the RRC Club went to all classes and announce

about the RRC Club and its activities. They requested the students to join the club.

Notice was also sent by the programme officer to all classes asking students to join the

club. Membership forms were distributed. Total 248 students joined the club.

August 2013

On 3rd

August, Friendship day was celebrated. Red bands were tied to all students. A

lecture on ‗Love and Friendship‘ was also organised. After the lecture RRC Leaders Mr

.Malhar Phadke & Ms. Sneha Rahate organised games and competitions for the students.

A quiz programme on Addiction in Youth was organised on 3rd

August, 2013.

On 12th August on the eve of International Youth Day, the street play group performed a

street play on role of youth in today‘s world.

There was a discussion on the same after the street play performance.

The RRC Members visited the Meenatai Thakarey Blood Bank, Goregaon (W).
