Satan Comes Before God1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

God Points Out Job1:8 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

Page 5: Job’s Comforters

Satan Complains1:9 So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side?

Page 6: Job’s Comforters

God’s Answer To Satan1:12 And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power;

only do not lay a hand on his person.”

Job Loses His Property and Children

1:13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest

brother’s house; 14 and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the

donkeys feeding beside them,

Page 8: Job’s Comforters

1:15 when the Sabeans

raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have

escaped to tell you!”

1:16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and

burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell

you!”

1:17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands,

raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

1: 18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking

wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly a great wind

came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and

they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

1:20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.

21 And he said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return

there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away;

Blessed be the name of the LORD.” 22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with

wrong.

Satan Goes To God Again2 :3 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have

you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the

earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?

And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him,

to destroy him without cause.”

Page 15: Job’s Comforters

Satan Goes To God Again2:4 So Satan answered the LORD and

said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his

life. 5 But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his

flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!” 6 And the LORD said

to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.”

God Speaks!38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and

said: 2 “Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? 3 Now

prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you

shall answer Me.

42:1 Then Job answered the LORD and said: 2 “I know that You can do

everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.

3 You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’

Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, Things too wonderful

for me, which I did not know.

Page 22: Job’s Comforters

Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, Things too

wonderful for me, which I did not know. 4 Listen, please, and let me

speak; You said, ‘I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’ 5 “I have heard of You by the hearing of the

ear, But now my eye sees You. 6 Therefore I abhor myself, And

repent in dust and ashes.”

7 And so it was, after the LORD had spoken these

words to Job, that theLORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My

wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have

not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.

8 Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt

offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not

spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.”

Reasons For Suffering• Suffering Makes Us Like Christ

1 Peter 4:12-13

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to

try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you

partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may

also be glad with exceeding joy.

• To Become An Example To Others

1 Thessalonians 1:6-7 6 And you became followers of us

and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with

joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became examples to all in

Humble Yourselves Before God• Humility Cures Worldliness

James 4:7-10Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil

and he will flee from you.8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-

minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning

and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and

He will lift you up.

Do Not Judge Your BrotherJames 4:11-12

Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother,

speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law,

you are not a doer of the law but a judge.12 There is one Lawgiver, who

is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?

burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
