    An Oasis

At The Edge Of The Thar

Founding a hotel in a heirloom location on the edgeof the Thar Desert presents a unique challenge.

While being freed of the trappings of a gharana orlineage, such an endeavor runs the risk of appearing

unfettered as it abandons the anchor of heritage.

This is where the Desert holds the key. In choosing

to depart from a conventional interpretation,WelcomHotel Jodhpur does not aspire to be a

palace, haveli or a gharana. What is does aspire is tobe the mystique of a Desert Rose.

The Desert has many lessons. It is boundless. It hasno title. Its sands shift with time. Its travelers arenot limited to a single cast, creed or religion. Andit cannot be claimed by kings or conquerors. TheDesert holds its own. It lives by its own rules and

    has its own bewitching beauty.

WelcomHotel Jodhpur draws from the oasis of thedesert and from the timelessness of the colours andtraditions of all that is Rajasthan. Not limiting itselfto any ideology or thought but to the mosaic of

what we call, the idea and magic of India.

Carry Identification: Keep your drivers license handy. There are times such as on the trains where you may beasked for identification. With your passport tucked away, its handy to have a drivers license available.

Choose Your Route Wisely:There is plenty to see and doin and around Jodhpur. Think about what interests you, what you like doing and tailor your trip accordingly.

Dress Conservatively: Be aware that India has a relativelymodest culture. Covering arms and legs is a simple steptoward respecting this. Indians are forgiving of those whoarent familiar with their culture, but you can quicklymake a good impression by, for instance, removing your

shoes before entering someones home. This is particularlyimportant when entering a sacred space, like a temple.

Also, if you see shoes outside a shop, its a sign to removeyour own.

Get Out Of The City: Though perhaps a clich, the onlyway to get a true sense of India is to visit smaller villagesand while exploring the unique experiences of whatmakes Jodhpur the magnificent city that it is.

Slow down:Too many people try to cram too much duringa visit to Jodhpur. Dont be one of them. Seeing one placeslowly is so much more rewarding than seeing manyplaces in a flash. Youll be less stressed, gain a deeperunderstanding of where you are and have more time tobuild relationships with the people you meet.

Stay healthy:Avoid tap water, and any food that may havebeen washed in it, at all times, especially from the roadside.

Stay Safe:While dont go down dark streets alone mightseem a bit obvious, there are plenty of straightforward waysto avoid subtle dangers in India. Carrying huge quantitiesof cash isnt a good idea anywhere, but in crowded Indian

cities pickpocketing is a very present problem. Equally, haggling at a market can, at times, become an unpleasant, heated exchange. Inexperienced visitors are advised to tryto stay cool. Be pleasant but firm, and dont allow yourselfto be irritated.

Finally, the men and women of Jodhpur are simple, friendlyand warm, with great pride in their past and culture. Someknowledge of their culture can do a lot in endearing you tothese inimitable people. Contat the Front Office for moreinformation.
