The historic city of Jodhpur has a number of sobriquets Gateway to the Thar because of its location, Sun Citybecause of its sunny clime around the year and Blue Citydue to the colour most houses in the old city are painted.

The second largest city in Rajasthan, Jodhpur boasts of anage-old heritage, being founded back in 1459 AD by Rao

Jaswant Thada: A white marblememorial built in 1899 by MaharajaSardar Singh in memory of hisfather, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II,

Jaswant Thada is an architecturalmarvel. The monument, in itsentirety, is built out of intricatelycarved sheets of marble. These

stones are extremely thin and polished so that they emit a

warm glow when the suns rays dance across their surface.

Kaylana Lake: An artificial lakebuilt by Pratap Singh in 1872,Kaylana Lake spreads over an area

Jodhpur Polo Season - DecemberThe royal sport of Polo has always had a special placein the annals of Rajasthan and nowhere has it thrived

as much as in the regal province of Jodhpur under theaegis of Maharaja Gaj Singh. In 1993. he re-launchedthe Jodhpur team, which has since made its mark onthe Indian polo scene. Carry Identification: Keep your drivers license handy.There are times such as on the trains where you may beasked for identification. With your passport tucked away,its handy to have a drivers license available.

Choose Your Route Wisely:There is plenty to see and doin and around Jodhpur. Think about what interests you,what you like doing and tailor your trip accordingly.

Dress Conservatively: Be aware that India has a relativelymodest culture. Covering arms and legs is a simple steptoward respecting this. Indians are forgiving of those whoarent familiar with their culture, but you can quicklymake a good impression by, for instance, removing your

shoes before entering someones home. This is particularlyimportant when entering a sacred space, like a temple.

Also, if you see shoes outside a shop, its a sign to removeyour own.

Get Out Of The City: Though perhaps a clich, the onlyway to get a true sense of India is to visit smaller villagesand while exploring the unique experiences of whatmakes Jodhpur the magnificent city that it is.
