Thompson Center, University of Texas, Austin Lessons Learned From Past Designs or Oh My, Did I Really Approve That? This presentation will provide photos of specific equipment and structural designs at wastewater treatment plants throughout TX. Associated with the photos, will be a drawing of the design. The intent of the presentation is to show how the perspective of what is presented to the end user and what is actually received can be misinterpreted. The presentation will highlight the importance of clarity associated with drawings, emphasize the importance of looking at the overall layout of equipment in relation to operation and maintenance, and stress the importance of engineer to end user review for accuracy and quality control. John Bennett has been employed by the Trinity River Authority (TRA) since the day after he graduated from high school in 1986. During his career at TRA, he has accrued a total of 1208 hours of TCEQ-approved training and he earned Class “A” Wastewater Certification in August of 2000. He graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Tarrant County College with AA in Management in December of 2001 and will soon pursue an undergraduate degree in Management at UT Arlington. Mr. Bennett has managed the TRA Denton Creek Regional WWTP since 2003 and has been a WEAT member since 1994. Jeff Sober is a wastewater process engineer with 11 years in the wastewater business and 5 as an engineer with Carollo Engineers, Inc. in Dallas, TX. Jeff has managed and designed dozens of wastewater treatment projects involving rehabilitation, replacement, or green field construction for municipalities in 4 states. Prior to engineering, he worked for a water and wastewater operations consulting firm specializing in operations optimization. Mr. Sober has a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M and is a registered PE in TX, OK, MS, LA, and AK.
