It has been a joy to welcome you back to public Mass and receiving Holy Communion, thanks be to God! As of this past Friday, June 26th, Chester County is in the “Green” phase of re-opening. While there are a few changes in how we will be operating at Saint Agnes in the Green Phase, for the most part Mass will look very similar to how it looked in the Yellow Phase. TThe biggest change is in our Mass schedule. We will be returning to what our Mass schedule was before the pandemic on the weekend of July 4th. This means that daily Mass will be on Monday to Friday at 6:30am and 8am and at 8am on Saturday. Sunday Mass will be the 5:15pm Vigil on Saturday and 7am, 9am, 10:30am, 12 Noon (Spanish), and 5:15pm on Sunday. There are a few points that we would especially like to highlight:

The obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation is suspended until further notice. This means that no one is obligated to come to Mass. Those who are sick, elderly, or with other pre-existing conditions are encouraged to stay home. We will continue to provide live-streamed Masses at 10:30am and 12 Noon on Sunday. Masks are still highly encouraged to be worn by all the faithful for the full duration of Mass. Please remove your mask prior to receiving Holy Communion. We still ask you to remain 6 feet of social distance between members of different households. Holy water fonts will remain empty and we will continue to use single-use paper wor-ship aids instead of hymnals and missalettes. The procession with the gi s at the offer-tory and the sign of peace will not be taking place. For Holy Communion, please continue to use the side aisles only, returning to your seat by the center aisle. Everyone is encouraged to receive Holy Com-munion in the hand at this time. If you would prefer to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, please go to the Eucharistic minister in the center only. Deacons and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Com-munion may resume visits with Holy Communion to the homebound and medical facilities provided that the Communion minister, the facility, and the person to be visited all have an understanding re-garding what precautions will be taken. Please contact the rectory office if you or a loved one wishes to be brought Holy Communion.

During the Coronavirus Outbreak and to minimize social dis-tancing to keep everyone safe, tthe KofC Council Home will tem-porarily remain CLOSED to its members and to the public. Thank you for your understanding. Stay tuned for any changes.

The Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary says the rosary on Wednesday in the Chapel from 11 am to 12 noon. All are in-vited! In recent dec-ades, the Catholic Church has received many new devotions. Pope John Paul II canonized St. Faustina and established the new Divine Mercy Devotion, which revealed new gi s of mercy coming from Jesus’ heart. The Flame of Love Devo-tion is very similar making Catholics aware of a new fire coming from Mary’s heart. No one has to believe these private devotions (although approved by the Church); but ac-cepting these revelations provides the capaci-ty to receive God’s gi s. Divine Mercy comes from the diary of St. Faustina. Flame of Love comes from the diary of Elizabeth Kindel-mann. Elizabeth’s diary is about 300 pages. Also, there is a simplified version. From ei-ther version, the reader easily grasps the cen-tral message given to Elizabeth by Jesus and Mary about the Flame of Love. If anyone wishes information on saying The Flame of Love rosary, contact Cheryl at 610-696-7706 or email: [email protected]. Information is also available for saying this rosary in the home.

Our basic needs center, the Day Room, will continue to follow the protocols established in the red and yellow phases of the pandemic. All services, except for consultations and fi-nancial assistance, are offered via “take-out”. Meals, Food Bank and Healthy Baby Program are all provided via take-out. Visitors entering the building will be screened using the proper assessment questions and have their temperature scanned at the door. The Outreach Staff will be meeting in the up-coming week to formalize a safe, phased ser-vices expansion plan. There are many beautiful signs of new life! This past week two guests who had been re-ceiving meals stopped by. They had re-turned to work and wanted to make a dona-tion from their first paycheck and express their gratitude for the help they received while unemployed. Two young men who were helping their sis-ter move out of her apartment across the street from the Day Room noticed all the people receiving food and diapers and sup-plies at our door. The men came over to see us because they were moved by what they witnessed and wanted to give something to help us to continue to provide for those in need. Little by little signs of new life emerging! We deeply grateful to all who help us in big ways and small, to lessen the burdens of our neigh-bors in need. May God continue to bless you with His Love and His grace!

As you may have heard, Gay Street will be closed from Matlack to Darlington Streets to allow for businesses and restaurants to set up outside. This measure is intended to help businesses who have suffered as a result of the pandemic.

This will have an impact on us at Saint Agnes, especially regarding parking and traffic flow and parking around our church. We have been working with the Borough and the Police De-partment to come up with plans for our parish and school. Please check our Facebook page and website for the most up-to-date information. Once we have a plan in place, we will also communicate that via email to everyone on our email list.

Thank you very much for your patience and cooperation as we seek to find ways to support our community without disrupting our ministry here at Saint Agnes. As always, your spiritual and temporal well-being are our priority.

CCecilia Cicone, Communications and Pastoral Assistant For the past several months, the wallpaper on my laptop computer has been a skull with the words Memento Mori written under it. Now, I’m not the kind of person you would normally expect to see having anything with a skull on it and I’ve seen more than a few double takes when people have walked past the laptop on my desk in the rectory.

Memento Mori is Latin for “Remember your death.” It has a rich history in our Church, as saints o en talked about the great benefit of remembering that this earth is not our ultimate home. Remembering that we are made for heaven is a great little tool in the spiritual life to help us to grow in holiness at all moments. For this reasons, saints are o en pictured with skulls near them as a visible and stark reminder that they will die some day.

This practice can seem morbid, but really it is anchored in hope. If we remember that we will eventually die, that this earth is not all there is, we will think twice before we sin. When we remember that we will eventually die, we will be able to let go of resentments or the rude comments that someone made to us. When our goal is eternity, those little things don’t mat-ter. If we remember that we will die, we remember that we will live forever in Christ. If we remember that we will die, we will truly live this life to the full and with great peace, being attentive to the reality that every moment is a gi of God’s love and has been planned by Him for our good.

In this Sunday’s second reading, St. Paul says, “Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.”

When we see a baby baptized, we usually think of new life, not death. And there’s a reason for that! In Christ, death means new life. That is why, as Christians, we don’t need to be afraid of death. Death is our bridge into abundant new and eternal life.

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus says, “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Are we afraid of losing our economic security? Are we afraid of los-ing certain relationships? What is it that we are holding onto that is a part of life on this earth? Because ultimately, in our last moments, we will need to let it all go and hold only onto Christ as He carries us into eternity.
