the 2010 Jewellery design Preview has been developed with the distinct belief that the Fashion
Industry is increasingly playing a role in determining the styles and types of Jewellery that today s consumer is buying.
Over the last 10 years there has been an important increase in the level of involvement by the fashion industry in the Jewellery category. today, almost every major fashion house has established a credible business in Jewellery, either by developing their own lines or through specially developed collections, which serve as an extension of their brand s values and personalities.
today, runway shows combine the latest fashion with Jewellery designs which accent the designer s styles and designs. the fact that the Fashion Industry is comprised of many International Brands with huge budgets to influence consumers through advertising, fashion events and high profile retail exposure has resulted in a world where fashion increasingly sets the stage for the way consumers look at Jewellery.
this year an exhaustive study into those Fashion trends which will set consumer preferences in 2010-2011 was conducted to guide the determination of the trend Categories and the selection of the Jewellery pieces included in this Preview.
trends were selected which were believed to have the longest staying power and which were believed to be most condusive to interpretation by Jewellery designers.

this edition of the Jewellery design Preview
incorporates important innovations towards the
constant pursuit of excellence. It aims to improve
the efficiency of our actions in supporting design in
every link that constitutes its chain: research, conception,
manufacture, distribution, promotion and consumption.
It is noteworthy the greater participation in defining
the trends for which, in addition to an outside consultant,
we now count on a new committee of renowned
experts. these experts include those responsible for
carrying out similar projects in other associations
of Grupo da Moda, such as ABESt, ABIt, ASSINtECAL
and ABIHPEC - to which we pay our special thanks.
Another interesting point was the anticipation
of the actions to promote these trends among those
mainly concerned - such as entrepreneurs, designers
and teachers -, with workshops held in Rio Grande do
Sul, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, so that
the industry would have enough time to produce and
launch their collections for FENINJER along with this book.
As per the previous years, and to take advantage
of the presence of retailers and of both national
and international press, we’ll be hosting lectures
about the Preview and an exhibit of jewels
from all four trends, including themed window
displays, in order to illustrate, exemplify and train
the retailers for their own points of sales.
After its national launching, about a dozen
more lectures will take place across Brazil, with the
special support of SEBRAE, to promote the trends,
especially among retailers and consumers.
On the other hand, and taking into consideration
the strong impact of design as an important tool to
enhance the competitiveness of Brazilian jewellery
abroad, this material will also be used to support our
positioning during the various actions to be done
overseas, along with the Export Promotion Program
for the Gems, Fine Jewellery and Costume Jewellery,
carried out in partnership with APEX-BRASIL.
We understand that this material, with its
subsequent promotional actions in both domestic and
international levels, represents an important effort
to strengthen the image of Brazilian jewellery and to
support an attractive and differentiated design in a
market known for its ongoing demand for innovation.

A percepção global
do consumidor sobre o País, embora
recente, é extraordinariamente positiva.
Um estudo realizado pela Caviar,
consultoria de marketing de luxo,
em 23 mercados internacionais de
todos os continentes constatou
que 59% dos consumidores têm
uma opinião “extremamente
positiva” ou “muito positiva” do
Brasil.
O samba
é reconhecido mundialmente como
um autêntico representante musical
do espírito brasileiro.
A contagiante música
brasileira, a deliciosa caipirinha, as
belas modelos brasileiras, continuam
a ter apelo internacional. Hoje, é difícil
percorrer uma revista internacional de
moda ou estilo sem encontrar alguma
referência à crescente popularidade do
Brasil como um criador de tendências.
Conforme disse o New York Times em
2007, “O Brasil está para o charme assim
como a China está para o comércio”.
Com tudo isso, como a indústria
brasileira de joias pode se posicionar
para aproveitar ao máximo essa imagem
positiva que a marca Brasil representa?
Como poderíamos estabelecer um nítido
posicionamento competitivo frente

O Brasil precisa estabelecer o
posicionamento de um criador de
tendências que está continuamente
explorando novas ideias, materiais,
estilos e desenhos capazes de
conquistar o consumidor interessado
• Novo Criador Internacional
de Moda e Estilo
• Refinado Produtor Mundial de Gemas e
Joias Que Celebram as Mais Modernas
lindas e variadas cores.
massificação, a joia brasileira oferece
um verdadeiro design diferenciado.
As joias representadas nesse Preview
de Tendências do Design de Joias para
2010 certamente refletem esse espírito.

It is becoming increasingly clear
that there is a growing familiarity
and desire by today s international
consumer, for all things Brazilian. Global
consumer perceptions of Brazil, although
still relatively new, are overwhelmingly
positive. A study conducted by Caviar,
Luxury Marketing Consultancy, in
23 international markets across all
Continents, found that 59% of all
consumers have an “extremely” or “very”
positive perception of Brazil. An additional
37% indicate a “positive” perception of
Brazil. International consumers perceive
Brazil as a happy country that thrives on
celebration, music, and sports. Samba is
an internationally recognized musical
style which aptly represents the Brazilian
Spirit. Brazil is further perceived as a
naturally beautiful country with a
lush tropical landscape with endless
miles of hot, beautiful beaches.
Brazil is characterized
by 3 key attributes:
1. Charisma > Sociability, Sensuality,
Trendiness and Fun
2. One – Of – A – Kind > Unique,
Original, and Different.
3. Authentic > Kind, Friendly,
Charming and Approachable.
These positive perceptions are beginning
to translate into increased business
opportunities across many different
lifestyle categories for many Brazilian
brands, companies and ideas. Such Brands
as Havaianas, Rosa Cha, Osklen, Campana
Brothers and H Stern have begun to
distinguish themselves with a unique
approach to design and spirit for life.
The contagious Brazilian music, the hip
caipirinha drink, the well known Brazilian
Models, continue to have an international
appeal. Today, it is difficult to skim through
any fashion or style magazine without
finding a reference to Brazil s growing
popularity as a trend setter. As the New
York Times wrote in 2007, “Brazil Is To
Cool, What China Is To Commerce.”
So, how should the Brazilian Jewellery
Industry position itself to best take
advantage of these positive global
perceptions that Brand Brazil represents?
How should we develop a distinctive
competitive position against the
better known, high prestige European
manufacturers on one hand, and the
lower cost, mass producers in Asia and
the US, on the other? The answer lies
in the unique position Brazil holds in
the mind s of today s consumer.
Brazil needs to establish its position
as a trendsetter which continually
explores new ideas, materials, styles and
designs that appeal to today s fashion braz

conscious and new luxury consumer.
Brazil needs to clearly position itself as:
• The New World Trendsetter
• A Fine Producer of Colorful Gems
and Jewellery that Celebrate today s
Fashion, Luxury and Lifestyle trends
Brazil is home to the world s largest
variety of beautiful colored gemstones.
Brazil is the ultimate “Melting Pot” where
cultural influences from around the world
combine to create a truly unique vision of
life. This “Brazilian Spirit”, which is based
on joyfulness, and fun of life, permeates all
we do. Brazilian jewellery design captures
the energy of today s design and fashion
worlds and translates it into a joyful, bold
and exuberant expression of life. In a world
of increasing sameness, Brazilian Jewellery
provides a truly joyful design difference.
Brazilian jewellery reflects a passion for
creativity, open-mindness, imagination,
femininity and authenticity. Brazilian
jewellery design celebrates Brazil s natural
treasures and multi-cultural heritage.
Brazilian Design is adventorous, modern,
vivacous, sensual, spirited and joyful.
The jewellery represented in
the 2010 Jewellery Design Preview
certainly reflects this spirit!

melhor reflitam as propriedades estéticas
joalheria. Conforme já mencionado,
essa relação se torna mais forte
a cada ano. Os designers de joias
seguem os estilos, cores, cortes e
tendências da moda. E à medida que
o consumidor toma por referência
as imagens formadas nos grandes
desfiles de Paris, Nova York, Milão, Rio,
São Paulo e Tóquio, ele desenvolve a
sensação de que essa imagem precisa
ser complementada pela joalheria.
Da mesma forma, os designers
de moda veem a joalheria como um
complemento importante da imagem
total que eles querem criar para suas
marcas. Hoje em dia, a moda não diz
respeito somente à roupa, diz respeito
a uma experiência total de vida.mod

The theme of the 2010
Jewellery Design Preview is
the symbiotic relationship
between fashion and Jewellery.
Jewellery designers are looking to
fashion trends, styles, colors and cuts for
inspiration. As consumers increasingly
buy into the images established on
the major runways in Paris, New York,
Milan, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, they
have a strong preconceived image that
needs to be complemented by Jewellery.
Successful Jewellery designs will
be those which best complement
these lifestyles, by reflecting the
aesthetic properties that fashion
trends establish. This year s Preview
illustrates how successfully Brazilian
Jewellery Designs have been in
celebrating 4 major fashion movements
that are shaping the lifestyles of
consumers around the world.Fash

tranqüiliza a mente e descansa o corpo. Azul é a
representativo do crescente movimento ambientalista.

Blue is impossible to miss in the 2009 collections! This season, it’s a good thing to look blue. Designers across the board have brightened their lines with this show stopping shade in
the form of belts, shoes, bags and clothing. Given the dire economic situation that we’re experiencing, the designers can’t be blamed for wanting to bank on calm, stable and trustworthy blue.
From electric blue to aqua - this season, fashion is cooling down. In fact it’s pretty hard to miss... since all the biggest celebrities are parading around in it on the red carpet, at premiers and parties! There has indeed been a surge of blue on the runways in the last year.
Three greens, each with their own distinct personality, accent the color palette for ’09-’10, perpetuating the idea of freshness and renewal. Vibrant Green, the quintessential spring hue, brings a true verdancy to the palette in a time of revitalization.
Dark Citron, a citrus-inspired green, is calmer and more serious than most, offering an element of sophistication to the mix. Reflective Lucite Green, a clean, clear subtle hue, adds a slight shimmer.
Green may just become the newest “neutral” color. Used as a subtle backdrop to reflect an enhanced eco-consciousness and social responsibility, green will be representative of the growing environmental movement.

Abstratos, Cor Intensa, Pop Art, Padrões Justapos-
tos, Ludomania, Ícones dos Anos 60, Signos de
Paz, Formas Geométricas, Carinhas Risonhas,
Grafismos do Flower Power.
e definidos pigmentos. A nostalgia do pensamento rebelde
Embora muitos desses ícones e emblemas tivessem
sob a denominação “the happy look”.
Ouse buscar a elegância urbana
com vestimenta esportiva, imagens virtuais e influências
exóticas. Proponha uma redefinição dos códigos urbanos.
“Pop art diz respeito a gostar de coisas.”
Andy Warhol
“Pop art is about liking things.”
Andy Warhol
Abstract, Intense Color, Pop Art, Juxtaposed
Patterns, Symbols of the ’60’s. Peace signs, Graphic
Flower Power icons, Geometric Shapes. Clever
and confident with no limitations, complete freedom of
expression through color, shape and texture. A palette of clear
intense pigments. Nostalgia for the free-thinking, 1960s era
is bringing some much needed whimsy and fun to fashion.
The look is all about being happy and carefree. There’s
a wealth of inspiration to draw upon from the peace sign,
happy face, and graphic “flower power” icons to designs based
upon some of the 1960’s leading fine artists and designs,
such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and other Pop Art
creators. Of course, there’s always a little rock ‘n’ roll, too.
While fondness of the decade of change may be on
the minds of consumers today, the whimsical tone of
many of these designs has been popular the last few
years in Europe as “the happy look.” That lighthearted
mood has now been translated for the U.S. market,
where many of the most famous icons originated.
Look on the bright side. Breathe a little humor and pleasure
back into daily life. Give classics a new lease of life through
color. Play with interactions between worlds and looks. Dare
to go for urban elegance with active sportswear, virtual
images and exotic influences. A redefinition of urban codes.

O homem tribal coleciona e revela as histórias do
mundo. É um guardião do passado, um sábio
visionário do futuro. Ele tece e combina, numa
única tela, as lendas, cores e padrões rituais de nosso pre-
cioso planeta. Uma experiência de luxo.
Trata-se de descobrir o novo. Trata-se de misturar ideias
vindas de todas as partes do globo. De uma maneira nova
e excitante.
neutros tons-terra e as brilhantes referências étnicas, che-
gando a propostas surpreendentes.

Ethnic Details
59
The global village of fashion is one of the hottest places to be this
year, as designers prime your wardrobe with inspirations from every
corner of the globe. The global fusion fashion trend juxtaposes earthy
neutrals with brilliant ethnic influences, and makes for an exciting ride.
From Africa to the Middle East, from indigenous Indian cultures to Asian
Patterns and designs. From Religious Icons to the grandeur of India, today s fashion
designers are crossing the globe in search of their latest runway inspirations.
The basis of ethnic style lies in its texture and design. Ethnic fashion
trends are based on colors and varied designs. Many ethnic designs are
also based on geometric prints. Use of color and design play an imperative
role here. Ethnic prints and details are definitely a trend that will
continue as we have many cultures that inspire our fashion senses.
We have become not a melting
pot but a beautiful mosaic.
Different people,
different beliefs, different
yearnings, different hopes,
different dreams.
Jimmy Carter
“Western culture is developing a grand
love affair with the distinctive fashion
style that is India. Along with Indian
music and spirituality, Indian Clothing is
having a huge impact on the mainstream
identities of western style and culture.”

E esses
contornos sempre sugerem visualmente objetos do mundo
leveza, suavidade, calma, delicadeza.
A vida vegetal continua a inspirar.
“Everything is the product of
one universal creative effort.
There is nothing dead in Nature.
Everything is organic and living,
and therefore the whole world
appears to be a living organism.”
Seneca
Organic
Beauty in the natural forms, shapes and materials that surround us
The Look – Organic shapes. Creative construction through twisting,
tying and pleating or deconstruction to make way for new forms.
Emulating the organic shapes of nature the organic movement
silhouette focuses on sack sculpted and elongated shapes. Organic shapes
are shapes with a natural look and a flowing and curving appearance
When attempting to create a piece that looks natural, flowing,
soft, peaceful or calming, organic shapes are generally the shapes of
choice. Garment identity is established by the unique characteristics of
the organic process, meaning never two items are quite the same.
While the green movement continues to gain momentum, a separate
yet parallel one is taking place: The use of nature-inspired elements
in fashion. While some are directly from the great outdoors (wood or
cork for construction, or shells or feathers as embellishments), others
are interpretations. Plant life continues to inspire. In terms of shape
interpretations are less sweet than before and more dynamic.
