PORTRAIT PLANNING – PREPARING FOR PAINT with Guy MorganThis unconventional portraiture workshop is suitable for anyone who sketches and photographs, has rudimentary Photoshop or drawing programs skills and who wants to paint people in a contemporary style. Commencing with an illustrated talk by artist Guy Morgan on his practice, you will then draw initially from a model and take photographs for reference. Guy will encourage you to ‘free up’ your drawing. After lunch, you will import your sketch into your laptop, notebook or iPad and Guy will demonstrate methods to refine the image. You will then use your drawing and photo references to ascertain a final composition, and colour plan your work in preparation for paint.Sunday 29 May, 10am to 4pmFee: $118, includes a life model

ALUMINIUM ETCHING WITH VISCOSITY COLOUR PRINTINGWith Seraphina MartinProduce a stunning portfolio of up to ten colourful prints using aluminium plates etched in copper sulphate. Like traditional etching, this innovative process of aluminium etching involves intaglio techniques such as hard ground and soft ground using textures from found objects. Tonal passages similar to the aquatint technique are created without rosin dust, making this a non-toxic, friendly approach to fine art printmaking. Emphasis on colour will involve using viscosity in the inks and stencils with up to 6 colours and one passage through the press resulting in exciting variations to enhance your image.

Sat 28 & Sun 29 May, 10am to 4pmSuitable for beginners and experienced printmakersFee: $248, includes a materials fee

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS cont’dPORTRAIT DRAWINGwith Nicholas HardingA master class for students with some drawing experience. You will be working from a model and considering drawing as a preliminary to painting a portrait. Drawing from life, you will look at body language through shape and form, utilising light, shade and texture, and ultimately how to achieve a sense of presence. Nicholas Harding, Winner of the Archibald Prize and the Dobell Drawing Prize in 2001, is known for his lusciously thick oil paintings, as well as drawings and prints, with a career spanning 30 years.Sunday 5 June, 10am – 4pmLevel: Intermediate to AdvancedFee: $125, includes a life model

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER With Louisa ChircopIf you like playing with paper, then this workshop will help you discover more ways than one to develop your creativity and improve your technical skills in simulating surfaces and textures to generate interesting works of art that incorporate paper with mixed media.

You will be expected to bring all those boxed and hoarded letters, envelopes, stamps, bus and train tickets, shopping list or birthday card, or any paper that has been discarded, used or found. Using these paper materials, you will then translate them into a mixed media work on paper, taking ideas and exploring intrinsic qualities found in the old, pushing these observations in ways you never expected to generate works of art that breathe new life. Sunday 19 June 2016, 10am – 4pmFee: $105
