ON-LINE RESOURCES MORGAN HILL PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

CALIFORNIA 95037 The Morgan Hill Photography Club (MHPC) was founded in April 2008. Since its inception the club has been organized to be a fun place to socialize, share and critique each other’s photos, receive helpful tips, engage in field trips (a.k.a. "shootouts"), and participate in monthly photo topics and themes. The club caters to all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced, and professional) and encourages members to communicate with each other through its various on-line resources, which include:

To take advantage of the on-line resources you will need to have a computer with an Internet connection, and, in some cases, a Yahoo! ID and/or a flickr® account. The Yahoo! discussion group and official Club website are open to the general public. Anyone can view the images in the “Shootout” and “Monthly Theme” image pools but you cannot post to these pools unless you have a flickr® account and are a dues-paying member of the Club. Only club members with a flickr® account can view and post in the “Photo Critique” pool. Below you will find detailed instructions on how to get a Yahoo! OBTAINING A YAHOO! ID:

If you already have a Yahoo! ID or Yahoo! email account (yahoo.com, ymail.com, or rocketmail.com) you can skip this step. To get a Yahoo! ID and free Yahoo email account go to the Yahoo! home page (http://m.www.yahoo.com/) and click on the “New here? Sign Up” hyperlink.

You will be taken to the Yahoo! registration page, where you will need to enter your information. (See example on next page.)

Write your information here and keep it safe: Yahoo ID and Email:

Password:

When you click “Create My Account” you will be taken to a confirmation page and will receive an email in your “alternate email” account’s mailbox.

Verify your email by clicking on the link provided.

SETTING UP A FLICKR® ACCOUNT:

If you already have a flickr® account you can skip this step. To set up a flickr® account go to the flickr® home page (http://www.flickr.com/) and click on the “Create Your Account” hyperlink.

Then sign in to Yahoo! using your ID.

You will be taken to a screen where you will need to choose a flickr® screen name – it can be different from your Yahoo! ID. Once you have done that click “Create A New Account.” You now have a functioning flickr® account which you can begin using immediately. You will receive this confirmation page and also have one email message, which you should read.

JOINING THE YAHOO! DISCUSSION GROUP:

The MHPC Yahoo! discussion group is currently open to anyone who wishes to join. Anyone (members and non-members alike) who joins can post and/or view messages, or upload/download files. The files section contains the archives of the Club’s newsletters, board minutes, and some presentations of past Club speakers. To join the MHPC Yahoo! discussion group navigate to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and search for “MHphotoclub” in “Find a Yahoo! Group.”

When the following information appears, click on “Join This Group!”

OR, you may navigate directly to http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MHphotoclub/ and click on “Join This Group!” Then follow the instructions for joining. You may need to sign in to your Yahoo! account if you have not already done so. JOINING A FLICKR® GROUP:

Only Club members who have a flickr® account can upload images and post comments in the MHPC flickr® groups. The MHPC Monthly Theme Projects (http://www.flickr.com/groups/mhphotoclub/) and MHPC Shoot-Out Photo (http://www.flickr.com/groups/mhphotoclubshoot-outs/) groups are viewable by the general public. The MHPC Photo Critique group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/1089148@N20/) is only viewable by those who have joined the group. Membership in the flickr® group is generally made by invitation or by request. If you receive an invitation by email just follow the instructions contained therein. If you wish to request to be added to the group follow these instructions: Sign in into flickr® using your flickr® account name and then search for the group you wish to join. Then click on “Join” and follow the instructions on the screen. OR, you can go directly to any of the foregoing urls and then click on “Join This Group” and follow the instructions on the screen.
