Last day of term.
Dear Parents,
Welcome to mid-term, and we are running! This week Mrs Brooker has organised an expert teacher of recorder to come to the school on Thurs-day. With Mrs Brooker, she is going to give some expert advise and tui-tion to our students on their recorder playing. Al this is designed to make the students “performance ready” for their Opera House produc-tion in late June. This does seem a long way off but as we all know, these things have a tendency to sneak up on us, very quickly. Thank you to all the parents who came to the District Swimming Carni-val and transported students to the venue. I would also like to thank those parents who put their hand up and helped with lane timing. It is great to know that we at small schools take more than our share of the workload.
In three weeks time we are travelling to Binalong to take part in the Harmony Day celebrations. These celebrations are done all over the state to acknowledge and take pride in Australia’s cultural diversity. A note will go home in a week or so to organise transport to Binalong, who as part of the transition plan for Year 6 students, is hosting this pro-gram.
The small schools in our Learning Community-Moorimboola, have banded together to ensure that they are able to form peer groups for our senior students. As our Year 6 students progress to high School they will be able to associate with other “small schoolie” students that are attend-ing the same High School. This will also happen down the track for Year 5 students for the following year. Having sporting events as well as cul-tural programs these students are exposed to their future peers and re-lationships are formed. Regards,
Russell

Woolworths Tokens
Thank you to the whole
Jugiong community for the
tokens that were collected in
2013. We did not get as
many as 2012 but we were
able to obtain a number of
items that are more than
useful to the school. We
were able to get, junior &
senior discus and shot put,
along with a good quality
tape measure and a sports-
bag to transport our athlet-
ics gear. The tokens also en-
abled us to get a collection
of cardboard of different
colours, an expense that the
school would have had to
fund.

What We Are Doing
In the primary section for History we are doing “Local”. This involves looking intensly at our local community, Jugiong’s history, govern-ment institutions, community involvement and events in Jugiong and the surrounding district. At the moment the pupils are having great fun looking at the school’s history and identifying parents, relations and village identities.
In the infants we are doing the unit “All about Me”. As the title sug-gests it is about family, community and the student. This way the stu-dents can identify where they are and how the basic family unit works and how it fits into the community.
Binalong Swimming Carnival We now have some more results of the carnival. Senior Runner-up was Joey Polimeni and Junior Runner-up was Billy Ward. So congratula-tions to these students for their results.
The School, which includes all students who participated in races, came second for the whole carnival. We are now competing against those bigger schools and not just relying on the handicap results.
Storm Damage
Last Wednesday, Jugiong was hit by a storm that was a great example of natures power. The famous “poplar trees” down the main street took a beating. My count was 6 trees down (and on power and tele-phone lines).
Here at school we had our share of damage, trees down, roof lifted on the main building, tree damaging roof of the toilet block and also the Library.
Thank you to Mr Elsley who cut and climbed to ensure the students were safe when they came to school. We have had workers cutting up trees and carting them away, replac-ing roof panels, fixing damaged roofs and ensuring everything is safe for our students.
