I’ve been hearing rumblings lately that I’ve been doing a lousy job planning wind ve-locity for the races. The MCs in particular have been struggling to get regular se-ries races in and have about

4 in so far, I believe. Con- sidering we haven’t even hit the traditional summer doldrums yet, I’d say we’re in trouble! Missing the moonlight race was particu-larly unfortunate. While we were making our rounds with the abandonment flag, I saw fireworks from the Dorn/Kent/Smyczek bay, in addition to some from Pot-ter’s Lake, perhaps, and a few more around the lake. Made me realize how much fun it would have been to sail a race with fireworks going off! Since the 4th is a Monday next year, we may

not try again for a 4th moonlight race, but I think

we will try again.

See you on the water!

MC Nationals MC Nationals MC Nationals MC Nationals ---- 93 Boats, All 93 Boats, All 93 Boats, All 93 Boats, All----Star Competition Star Competition Star Competition Star Competition

The MC has become a truly na-

tional class, with 93 boats hitting Pe-

waukee Lake from all over the coun-

try for seven races on June 26-28. We

also have become a seriously com-

petitive class, with former Olympic

campaigners and national champions

from other classes joining with tal-

ented younger sailors, along with the

long-time class stalwarts and plenty

of scow sailors from the C, E, and A

fleets.

Zack Clayton, Jeff Lippert, Commo-

dore Chris, and Al Haeger repre-

sented Beulah, along with our pre-

mier signal boat team of Candace

Porter, Dale and Nancy Roble, Steve

and Kathy Barth, and Maggie Smith.

Day 1 brought 8-12 mph northeast

wind, perfect for Pewaukee, enabling

three good races, 93 boats presents a

real challenge at the starting line and

mark rounding's. Ask Chris about the

pileups at the windward mark - 20

plus boats playing bumper cars and

going nowhere! Al surprised himself

and everybody else with a 6-27-16 for

11th overall at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, it would not last.

Day 2 brought stronger winds in

the morning two races, and Al, Chris,

and Jeff struggled. Zack had a 4 in the

first race of the day and moved into

contention for the top 10. We

bobbed around in a dying wind in the

afternoon with no race. The Saturday

night rib dinner was awesome - on

par with some of our great Beulah

regatta meals.

Day 3 brought two races in a light

and variable south breeze. Very diffi-

cult to get clean air, but Zack figured

it out with a 6-18 to finish 8th overall.

Andy Burdick won, with remarkable

consistency (worst race was 13th).

The top ten was a mix of great scow

sailors, a talented graduating HS

sailor, a former college all-American

sailor, and two former Olympic cam-

paigners in other classes. What a

great event to experience and learn

from!

TRAPTRAPTRAPTRAP————A A A A training training training training regattaregattaregattaregatta Trap was a wonderful regatta

this year with 65 boats! The junior and

senior fleets were combined this year,

which made it such a big fleet. On the

first day there was good wind and five

races. The second day was a day with no

wind so we didn't sail.

The food at trap was very good. On

the first day there was Piggly Wiggly fried

chicken with salad, watermelon and

cookies. The second day was even better

with Qudoba. They served steak

and chicken tacos, chips and more cook-

ies (which was not a problem).

Harry Melges and his crew Finn Bur-

dick won trap. The top Beulah boat was

Erin Sullivan and Anneliese Leroy in 6th

place. Then in 10th was Patrick Schmidt

with his crew Crissy Nolting. Beulah did

very good at trap this year with 2 boats in

the top ten and the rest following closely

behind.

X boats at QuadsX boats at QuadsX boats at QuadsX boats at Quads————Cedar hostsCedar hostsCedar hostsCedar hosts As we pulled up to the new and improved Cedar Lake Yacht Club, I could already tell that it was going to be a great experi-ence. Masts were being raised and smiles were formed on the faces of eve-ryone there. The Hour gun was sounded and sailors raised their sails. In the morning there was very light and shifty wind. It was a tough race but the Beulah sailors finished very well. The race con-cluded and we were sent in so we could eat lunch. There was a large storm that looked like it was going to hit us so the race committee decided to keep us in for a majority of the afternoon. During that

time on shore, the infamous Quads vol-leyball began with Oshkosh and Cedar facing off with each other. It was a tough battle but Cedar came out on top. Next up were Beulah and Nagawicka where Beulah was victorious. Cedar then played Pine and emerged with the win. The rain never came and we were sent back out again for a race where our own Brigit Barr won. In the morning of the next day, the wind was much stronger and people were ready to get out there. We sailed two races that morning and the Beulah squad sailed strong. We

The property at W1504 South Shore Drive now owned by Allan and

Linda Haeger has been in the family since 1940. Al and Linda bought

into the property from Phyllis's estate in 2001 and acquired sole owner-

ship in 2013. At that point, they started planning for a year- round

home here on Lake Beulah. Following the complete tear-down of the

old house, Linda did the majority of the layout design for the new house,

which includes a piano studio, a dual office space, and first floor "old

age" quarters for Al and Linda, large family spaces with a fabulous view,

and upstairs spaces for all the children and grandchildren. Visitors who

knew Phyllis will enjoy seeing a number of her art pieces in permanent

sence of about 40 years, and looking for a rental property, she was

lucky enough to find this charming cottage owned by Pat Porter, who

lives next door. Lisa completed quite a number of remodeling pro-

jects and other improvements, and the cozy place, with a view onto a

small side Beulah bay, makes a delightful retreat, enticing friends and

family members to frequent visits. The cottage was originally built

from three pre-fab Sears garages, by Harry Porter and son Hal, a fact

which cannot be known unless mentioned, and is in all ways a model

for clever remodeling and decorating of a small house.
