A PRAYER FOR DADS

On this Father’s Day, 2020 I want to pray a prayer of blessing:

Lord I pray that each of us will make God the foundation of our lives.

You have said that reverence for You gives a man deep strength, & what we need in our world today are men with deep strength.

Help us to build our firm foundation on Jesus Christ.

Lord, when everybody else is running the race for acquisitions, achievements, accomplishments, & appearances, help us to remember that what matters most is love.

To love You, O God, & to love our wives, sisters & brothers, families, kids, friends, & yes, even our enemies.

Help us to remember, Jesus, that You said that our care for others is the measure of our greatness.

Help us to give our lives away & to learn what it means to really live.

We realize that everything else is going to burn up & it’s going to pass away, but the man who does the will of God will live forever.

Most important of all, I pray for these men that You would supply them a new sense of courage.

The courage to stand alone, to be a righteous person, a man of honor.

To be strong, to do everything in love, one not to be swayed by the opinions of the majority.

Use such men to influence the people around them & the communities in which they live.

I pray this blessing in the name of the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit. Amen

Attention: Hot meal for seniors 60 years or older — As a result of the COVID -19 pandemic Harcatus Senior Nutrition Program has additional funding to serve individuals in Harrison and Tuscarawas counties. This meal program is a service that is offered to clients 60 years of age or older regardless of income. They can either have a hot meal delivered to their home once a day or they can pick it up at one of our congregate sites.

Contact the Dennison Harcatus office at 740-922-6880 for Tuscarawas, or 740-942-3238 Harrison, and someone will walk you through the application process.

THIS IS A LITTLE FUN THING TO DO! Quarantine Exercise: can you find the names of (16) books of the Bible hidden in the paragraph below? I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible (merely by a fluke). It kept people looking so hard for the facts and for others it was a revelation. Some were in a jam, especially since the name of the books were not capital-ized, but the truth finally struck home to numbers of readers. To others it was a re-al job. We want it to be a most fascinating few moments for you. Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot. Oth-ers may require judges to help them. I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is found. A little lady says she brews a cup of tea so she can concentrate better. See how well you can compete. Relax now. {There really are sixteen names of books hidden in this story!}

Answers are found on another page.

Reach out to your church family, call or send a card, to let them know you are think-ing about them. Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain. _______________________

KIDS FUN PAGE Get to Know God As Father

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name’” (Matthew 6:9 NIV). In the thousands of years covered in the Old Testament, God is called “Father” only seven times. Too many people just didn’t think of God as Father. They thought of Him as other kinds of things — Creator, Almighty One, etc. But they didn’t think of God as Father. Then Jesus came along & said this is how you’re to pray: Call him Father. Jesus uses the expression more than 150 times to refer to God.

What He’s doing is exploding all the stereotypes. God is not the angry ty-rant. God is not the cosmic cop. He is not the universal killjoy. He is not the impersonal force. God is a personal God. He wants to have a relation-ship with us, & He created you with the ability to have a relationship with Him.

There’s only one problem. For many people, the word “father” is a negative term. The word “father” may bring up all kinds of bad memories. A lot of people say, “Our Father, who art in Heaven? If God’s like my father, then no thanks.”

The truth is, some human fathers can make home a hell on Earth. Human fathers can be fickled, moody, abusive, controlling, & even violent. So the words “our Father in Heaven” carry a lot of baggage for some people.

The reason why many people never connect with God is because they uncon-sciously think God is like their earthly father, who may have been unreasona-ble, so they think God is unreasonable. Or, maybe their father was unreliable, so they think God is unreliable. We impose all those mixed-up hurts & emo-tions onto God, so it’s no wonder we have a hard time connecting with Him.

Many kids today have very little connection to their father. So why would they be expected to have a connection with their heavenly Father? It’s no wonder we don’t understand God!

We need to let go of the misconceptions & myths we have about God so we can understand the truth of what God the Father is really like. The truth will set you free! Misconceptions keep you disconnected from God. But when you really get to know Him, you’re going to love Him.
