gifts from God and that as Christ's disciples we are to develop

these gifts of Time-Talent-Treasure, to nurture and strengthen

our families, our community, our nation, and our world.

FROM THE DESK OF OUR PASTOR

Dear Friends,

I want to take this opportunity to thank Jen Ierardi, who has led the “Love Ministry” of St. Joseph Parish

for many years. Jen’s work responsibilities have made it impossible for her to continue in this role. The

Love Ministry has five components which she has managed with such grace and dedication. The first role

is to organize and run the annual Mass of “Hope and Healing” which takes place around the first of Octo-

ber. At this Mass we invite as many of the residents of the Wingate facility to come and receive the Sacra-

ment of the Sick and attend a light reception in Our Lady’s Hall. This same invitation is extended to all of

our parishioners who for whatever reason would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick and to attend

the reception in the hall following the Mass.

The second component of the Love Ministry is the weekly communion service at the Wingate Nursing

Home. I want to thank Carole Merrill who has agreed to be responsible for this service. There is a group

of dedicated parishioners who have been part of this service for some time and will continue to do so but

new help is always needed. You would need to be a Eucharistic Minister to accept this ministry.

The third part of the Love ministry is to schedule Eucharistic Ministers to bring communion to the Sick.

We do have a list of people who are willing to do so but we need someone who can co-ordinate this

important ministry so that the sick can receive the Eucharist.

The fourth part of the Love Ministry is the monthly Mass that I celebrate on the First Tuesday of the

month. My brother Knights of Columbus assist me in this task.

The fifth part of the Love Ministry is the assignment of the Eucharistic Minister at the weekend Masses.

Thankfully, Jen Ierardi will continue to take care of this aspect of the Love Ministry.

I would invite all of our parishioners to consider being a part of the Love Ministry—the sick and home-

bound deserve and need this Ministry.

God bless,

Father Wally

Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

In his letter today Saint James reminds us, “Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save your

souls. Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves”. Each week we come together to be nourished by

God’s word in Scripture and the Word, Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. What difference does it make in our lives?

THE PARISH OFFICE will be closed on Labor Day, Monday,

September 7th and also on Tuesday, September 8th as the

Staff will be on retreat for the day.

ALL MASSES WILL RESUME in the Church on Thursday,

September 10th.

Twenty-Second Sunday In Ordinary Time August 29-30, 2015 5

22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

On a trip to New York City, our group ended up sitting at an outdoor café, watching people walk by. One per-son made the observation that every person walking by us had a story to tell, a place to go and things to do. It reminded me of a movie that examined the many ways in which the lives of strangers are intertwined and over-lap. We are closer than we imagine. The woman walking by is the granddaughter of your great aunt’s best friend. The man at the corner store is the cousin of the priest who married your parents. The young boy on the bike who almost knocked you over goes to your parish, but only when he visits his grandfather, who ushers at the 7:00 Mass on Sunday morning. We are connected in so many ways.

Faith makes those types of connections. We share the same beliefs, receive the same sacraments and struggle with the same sins, yet we live miles apart. We’ve prayed together, hoped together, and worshipped together. To be a Catholic is to be part of the universal Church, the Body of Christ. In Him we are more than just con-nected by coincidence. We are the children of God, united as one.

Parish Survey Coming in September

Our Parish Pastoral Council has created a survey to determine what our parish does well and what we need to improve.

Are we ministering effectively to our parishioners of all ages and at all stages of life? The survey will provide you with the

opportunity to let us know.

On September 1st

, the Parish Office will e-mail parishioners a link to an on-line, confidential version of the survey. Paper

copies of the survey will be available at all the Masses during the weekend of September 12th

and 13th

. During the month of

October, the Parish Pastoral Council will review and prioritize the data, make an action plan, and share a summary of re-

sults with you.

Members of our Council strongly encourage all parishioners to take part in the survey, which should take just a few

minutes of your time. Council members thank you, in advance for your support.
