Grand Knight’s Message
Brother Knights,
The month of July is dedicated to The Precious Blood of Jesus. The entir e month falls within
the liturgical season of Ordinary Time, which is r epresented by the liturgical color green. This
symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the
eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. It is used in the offices and
Masses of Ordinary Time
July 4th is the national celebration of our Nation's independence. As we celebrate let us remember
to pray that God will strengthen and bless America and make our nation a haven of liberty and justice
for all — born and unborn.
It is nice that we are all able to resume the Mass again and receive the Holy Eucharist, even though
it is not like it was before the pandemic.
First of all, I would like to welcome all the new Council Officers; I look forward to working with
you. Hopefully soon, we will be able to have our meetings together in person as we implement our so-
cial distancing skills that we have all recently acquired shopping at the grocery store.
Our next Council meeting will be held on July 7th at 1800 (6:00pm) and our Of-
ficers meeting will be July 28th 1800 (6:00pm).
God Bless,

Message from the Assembly Faithful Navigator Page 3
Brothers,
I hope you are all doing well. Even though the 2020 Nevada County Fair has been canceled by the county, we still have work to do. Supporting our parish, priest and school.
As the money generators are not going to be bringing our funds, I ask for suggestions or ideas on how we can generate income to keep giving back to the community. Any idea is welcome, there are no bad ideas, some may just not be feasible or generate a profit. So, don't be shy, and send me or call me with any ideas.
Also, mass has re-opened, if you have not attended, go to the parish website and register to go to mass. It was great to feel the presence of Christ and fellowship last week.
God Bless,

Field Agent Report
Dear Brother Knights,
The world is slowly beginning its return to the way things were - at least as much as it can. It’ll like-ly be months before we know what normal looks like now. You’ve probably heard the saying attributed to an unsavory (to say the least!) historical figure that “there are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happens.” It certainly feels that way now. We have crammed decades of changes into these last several months, and it’s hard to know what change is permanent, and what changes will prove temporary. Not everything is fluid though. I am struck by the resilience of the permanent things - our faith, our fraternity, our families. I’m sure you’ve seen the tremendous ways in which the Knights of Columbus in particular has proven itself equal yet again to this current challenge. Whether it was the establishment of the Leave No Neighbor Behind Initiative, or the launch of the diocesan loan fund, or just the every-day, every-city response of councils across the globe, we have responded as we always do: swiftly, power-fully. Sure we’ve had to cancel some things. We’ve had to have some virtual meetings. We’ve had to stay a safe distance apart. But our distance hasn’t diminished our unity, nor has it changed our impact. I continue to be proud to be a part of this great organization - especially in moments like this. And I know you are too. That’s why, for me, being financially committed to the Knights is such a point of pride. We all need life insurance. We all need to plan for retirement. We all need to think about and prepare for life’s what-ifs. But when it comes time to decide who to make those preparations with, and who to choose to buy those products from, we can choose to spend our money with the company who establishes a multi-million dollar loan funds for Catholic dioceses in their most desperate time of need, or we can go anoth-er route. We can choose to buy our insurance from a company who leaves no neighbor behind, or a company who has no real concept of who their neighbor is. We can prepare for our retirement with a company whose members are - once again - setting an example of true Christian charity for all to fol-low, or we can go in a different direction. I would challenge you, whether you’ve never inquired or its been a long time - to take a fresh look at the Knights of Columbus as a trusted financial partner, and see what products and services we may have that might help you and your family. As we all start to get back to things, I can meet with you in person or by video, whichever you prefer, and we can have stress-free, no-commitment conversation about the possibilities. It’s a way to further your commitment to all that we stand for, and - at the same time - obtain some much needed peace of mind in times like these. I hope we’ll chat soon.
Vivat Jesus!

June has come and school is out and all survived a very momentous school year from power outag-
es in the fall to Covid 19 and distance learning in the last quarter of the school year. We said goodbye
to our 8th graders and sent them off with many blessings as they start the next step in their education,
high school. On Friday night May 29th, a graduation ceremony was held in the church for the gradu-
ates. Those in attendance were parents and anyone living in the same household as the graduate. Our
Valedictorian was Isabella Ingalls and the Salutatorian was Luke Billingsley. Following the ceremony
many school families and faculty gathered in their cars in the parking lot to extend their congratulations
to the graduates. This was followed with the traditional handing of the 8th grade sweatshirt to the 7th
graders from the graduates (sealed of course in a plastic bag and appropriate distance guidelines fol-
lowed) and the 7th graders gave their predictions to the graduates of what they thought was in their fu-
ture. Each graduate received a candy necklace and the Parent Club presented each with a gift bag of
goodies. In turn the 8th graders bequeathed to each 7th grader items for their use in the coming school
year. Although the format was a little different than in the past all had a great time and the 8th graders
were well honored.
Summer school is well underway under the direction of Mr. Dave Pistone which runs Monday thru
Thursday from 8-12. Students will receive help in math, language arts and tutors are available for those
students needing to get caught up with any work missed during Distance Learning time. This program
is open to all students in our area, not only those attending Mt. St. Mary Academy. Participation has
been strong and the program is appreciated by both students and parents.
Registration for the 20-21 school year is underway and enrollment looks good. We will be welcom-
ing at this time at least 11 new families to our school. We could use a few more kindergarten students
so spread the word and those interested should contact the school office at 530-273-2347.
School will begin on August 17th and our school building environment will follow the California
State Department of Public Health guidelines under the guidance of the Diocese of Sacramento, Catho-
lic School Department. Each school in the Diocese submits a reopening plan where it is reviewed and
then submitted to the State Department of Public Health for approval.
Due to the cancellation of two of our big fundraisers this past spring, (The Gala and the Jog a Thon)
and now the cancellation of the Fair and the Funnel Cake booth, the Parent Club is researching and
planning for an on-line Gala and a Jog-a-Thon in the Fall. Watch the church bulletin for information
regarding these two things. There will possibly be other small fundraisers coming to help offset the
loss of revenue from our major events being cancelled this past spring.
Knight of the Month - Tom Jacobs
Tom didn’t want to talk about himself. He wanted to talk about an event that happened to his grand-son Kevin a few days ago. Kevin lives in Ohio, 22 years old. His work is to build car washes; supervise the building, hire and train 50 employees, get the operation running and then move on to the next startup. He said he was riding his motorcycle on a hot day and pulled over to the side of the road to take a break. He was sitting there under a tree, everything was good. Cars were driving by, fancy cars; Lexus, Ford 250’s, BMW’s. He wasn’t paying to much attention, just enjoying a break. Along comes an old beat-up truck pulling a “John” boat. Obviously a poor family that had been out fishing for the day. Driver gets out and asked Kevin if he needs any help. Kevin was startled and said “no, I’m good, just taking a break”. Then he realized what this man and his family had done, gone out of there way just to check up on him. The Lexus’s didn’t stop, just the guy in the beat up truck with his family. Kevin says, “Don’t judge a book by its cover and just keep on doing what your doing”. Sounds like a future Knight!
