“The Secrets to Effective Networking, Consistent

Follow Up and How that Will Bring You More Business!”

The number of people you have in your database is the number of people you have access to market to on a regular basis so your #1 goal in your business should be to build your database and set up a consistent, frequent system for marketing and following up with them. If this isn't your #1 goal, you're missing out on a ton of sales. If you're not networking (online and in person in some way), you're missing out on a ton of sales. Here is a quick 3 STEP networking plan:

1. Where can you go to build your list or get clients where your ideal client is hanging out?

a. women's or business organizations b. chamber of commerce events c. industry association meetings d. membership functions e. local or national conferences and workshops – BIG

PROSPECT POOL! f. online social networking websites, blogs and forums (that’s

covered under online marketing) 2. How to best prepare yourself for networking:

a. research events and block them on your calendar every month (make sure you're consistent and go back often to ones that are good)

b. practice your 10-30-60 second commercials c. bring marketing materials, always have them in your car and on

hand so you never run out – INCLUDING A WAY TO SIGN A CLIENT UP ON THE SPOT! (order forms!)

d. arrive on time and allow enough time after for continued networking - don't rush your stay

e. be prepared to give to others, ask questions of others and not just talk about yourself

3. Develop an easy follow up system you can follow each week or delegate it to an assistant so it gets done! Use email, direct mail, phone for sure and connecting on social media sites too.

Kat’s Top 20 Networking & Live Event Follow Up Tips

1. Always shake a hand firmly (no fishy handshakes – if you’re not sure how good yours is try it out on someone you trust and ask them)

2. Look people in the eye, don’t look beyond them or look around when you talk to them

3. Wear clothes with pockets in them if possible and use one pocket for your cards and one for those you collect at events

4. Make sure to write notes on the back of every card right away for easy remembering

5. Practice your 10 sec, 30 sec and 60 sec infomercials because all meetings and events will ask for or warrant different lengths and have different scenarios. Be prepared to change it up a little depending on the audience and remember to stick in a call to action to make them DO SOMETHING.

6. Get a name badge so people know who you are wherever you go - mixers, events, the store, etc. (it also adds credibility and professionalism and helps brand your image/logo), don’t rely on stickers.

7. Build rapport and relationships with the people that you meet when networking, don’t try to sell right off the bat or expect them to use your services that first time they meet you. People get turned off with pushy people, however don’t forget to slip in a trial close now and then.

8. Arrive at meetings and events early and be prepared to stay late and meet those people you don’t know yet – meet and get to know EVERYONE!

9. Don’t go to something just because you think the speaker will have valuable information for you, go to network and if the speaker turns out to be good, then that’s a bonus.

10. Bring flyers, brochures and business cards to display or hand out at every meeting just in case it’s appropriate and acceptable to pass them out or put them on display but keep them in your vehicle for easy access so you don’t look too eager (not the biz cards, bring those in – and a pen!)

11. Don’t Feature Dump when talking to people (don’t list all your services or benefits while talking), find out what the customer/person wants or needs by asking questions first and getting them talking – LISTEN!

12. Never “lead” with a card when you enter a room, “leave” the card or wait until someone asks you for your card. Don’t presume everyone wants your card. If they don’t want it, they won’t do anything with it anyways so why waste it on them?

13. Offer to donate raffle prizes to events – use gift baskets or purchase something from a business that you’re trying to get to refer business to you and always slip your card and brochure into the gift. (Don’t offer as a prize a certain dollar amount or discount off your product or service, it’s not a gift then, it’s only a discount.)

14. Offer to give a referral discount or gift to those current customers or networking contacts that refer their friends (need to brainstorm ideas on incentives and “what’s in it for them” – maybe $100 referral fee depending on your price point or a $5 Starbucks gift card?)

15. Make arrangements with other businesses to offer their products or services to your clients/contacts for free exposure for them while allowing you to give gifts to your clients.

16. Do anything and everything you can to get noticed – purposely STAND OUT

17. Every person you network with, follow up by sending them a note, flyer or letter about how you would like to work with them and how you can help each other. Every person you meet with about your service, send them a thank you card right away. You want to make every relationship a WIN-WIN.

18. Follow up on every lead no matter what within 48 hours by phone, fax or email, whichever works best for THEM.

19. Try to help everyone you meet by referring people to their business, they will remember you and do the same for you.
