    SHAWNEE, Okla. Sean Rash of

Montgomery, Ill., started the ProfessionalBowlers Association Wolf Open with thePBAs 23rd nationally-televised 300 gameand continued his strike barrage in winninghis eighth career title in the opening event of Oklahomas Grand Casino Resort PBASummer Swing at the Grand Event Center.

The first of five PBA Summer Swingevents aired on CBS Sports Network.

Rash, the 2011-12 PBA Player of the Year, threw 37 strikes out of a possible 48 attemptsin defeating Chris Loschetter, 300-236;Martin Larsen, 225-221; Mike Fagan of FortWorth, Texas, 241-214, and top qualifier Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, 238-179, in the title match. Rash won $10,000

plus a $10,000 bonus for his televised 300game.

It seems like forever (since my last title inthe U.S.), but its only been two years sinceI won the Tournament of Champions, Rashsaid. Winnings everything. It doesnt matter if itsin a parking lot in Alaska or wherever.

Rash spoiled Loschetters 34th birthday when hethrew his perfect game at the Avon, Ohio, residentand defending Wolf Open champion in the firstmatch. It was the first nationally-televised perfectgame since Barnes threw a 300 game at Rash andAustralias Jason Belmonte in an elimination match inthe 2011 PBA Shark Open finals during PBA WorldSeries of Bowling III at South Point in Las Vegas.

I was a little nervous because I had the front eight(strikes) a few years ago in Medford (Ore.) and Ivehad a few other chances, Rash said. You just want tomake a good shot to give yourself a chance. It was agreat feeling, one of those youll never forget.

In the second match, an unconverted 4-6-7 split bySwedens Larsen in the sixth frame allowed Rash tostay close, and a 4 pin on Larsens first shot in the 10thframe gave Rash a chance to win. Working on a strikein the ninth frame, Rash added three more in the 10thframe for a come-from-behind 225-221 victory.

All you can ask for in situations like that is achance, Rash said. If (Larsen) strikes on that firstshot in the 10th, my day is over. But I still had to dou-

ble. You just have to put yourself in the right frame of mind. You have to go through the process because

once you let go of the ball, you have no control over the end result. Fortunately it turned out the right wayfor me.

In the semifinal match, Fagan struggled with pincarry, throwing only three strikes in the first eightframes while Rash struck on eight of his first nineshots on his way to a 241-214 victory. In the titlematch, Rash continued to pound the pocket whileBarnes never built any momentum.

Fagan and (Larsen) both threw urethane balls and Ithink it backfired on them, Rash noted. They didnthave the hold and the look they had in the preliminaryround at FireLake (Bowling Center, where preliminaryrounds were contested). I think if Barnes had a re-do,hed probably throw a different ball, but the ball hethrew (at FireLake) got him into the lead and he ranaway from the field. He has a lot of confidence in that ball.

While Rashs strikes were key to his victory, thedeciding factor actually was his spare shooting. Hehad only two open frames in four games one a split, one a chopped 6-10 spare attempt.

With his win in the Wolf Open, Rash claimed thefirst berth in the Oklahomas Grand Casino ResortKing of the Swing special event that will conclude theSummer Swing.

SEATTLE The Professional Bowlers Associationand Japan Bowling Promotions have jointly made anhistoric agreement that will create the first PBAInternational Regional program, a series that willserve as a qualifying system for the DHC JapanWorld Challenge in January, 2015.

The first events, the PBA Japan Womens DHCCheetah Open and PBA Japan DHC Cheetah Openfor men and women, will be held July 5 and 6,respectively, at Tokyo Port Bowl in Tokyo.

I am very excited, said Japan Bowling

Promotions Managing Director Shinichiro Kinoshita. This program has been a goal since we formed our company five years ago. It is a huge leap forward for the sport of bowling.

The cultivation of very high level competition thatwill help develop world-class bowling talent aroundthe globe has always been a goal of the PBA, saidPBA Commissioner Tom Clark. This landmark pro-gram is an example of how cooperation at the highestlevels can produce great results for the international

bowling community. The inaugural PBA Japan Regional series will

include eight tournaments six sponsored by DHCCorporation, Japans largest skincare product compa-ny and two events with multiple sponsors and twowith multiple sponsors. Five of the events will be for men, three for women. All of the tournaments will

involve qualifying for the 2015 DHC Japan WorldChallenge, a PBA International Tour event that willfeature an estimated $225,000 prize fund for itsmens and womens divisions next January.

All of the PBA Japan Regional events will be con-tested on PBA animal pattern lane conditions, pro-viding international players an opportunity to experi-ence the same lane conditioning patterns that are usedin PBA Tour competition in the United States. Theregionals will be open to any bowler who cares to enter.

The regional format will be: one-day events startwith two squads bowling eight qualifying games. Thetop 14 per squad will bowl two more qualifyinggames with the top eight per squad bowling two addi-tional games. The top four per squad will thenadvance to single-elimination match play to deter-mine winners. Each regional will feature an estimat-

ed $20,000 prize fund. The top four men and top twowomen based on competition points at the end of the

regional series will automatically qualify for theDHC Japan World Challenge.

We have held numerous meetings with the PBAover the past six months to establish this tour,Kinoshita said. We have faced many twists andturns, but we have solved problems along the wayand the PBA has given us the go-ahead.

We want to provide our Japanese athletes with anopportunity to look beyond Japan to world-wide tour-naments, Kinoshita continued. We hope to create ahero who will attract more news media coverage and

build our reputation. We thank our sponsors, the Japan bowling centers

that have supported us, the Japan bowling industryand the PBA for working hard to help us achieve thisgoal. Without their cooperation, we could not haveaccomplished this program.

Clark and PBA Deputy Commissioner Kirk VonKrueger, who spearheaded the project, will attend theJuly 12-13 Womens DHC Chameleon Open andDHC Chameleon Open at Sound Bowl in Ushiku, aTokyo suburb.
