COMMODORE’ S CORNER
Hi, fellow yachtsmen,
Things are really cooking now, especially clam chowder.
Plan to join the fun at our annual “Clam Fest”. This year on
Sunday, June 8th at Flat Point. A big, big thank you to
Barbara Rydberg for sponsoring the event. Lane has been
working diligently setting up the event for us, and it looks
like his request for not only good weather but great weather
is on tap. Speaking of “tap”, Brian is cooking up some very
special beer to go along with the clam chowder. This is a pot-
luck, so don’t forget your plates, utensils, food to share, and
an appetite.
The Commodore’s Cruise is almost here as well, June 13th
through June 15th, in Victoria, B.C. At this writing there are
10 vessels and 36 people planning to attend. I am very hope-
ful that the weather will be just as great. (Maybe I should ask
Lane to take care of that part.) I have had a tremendous
amount of help putting this together from Gayl Beller and
friends. There is still time, not a lot, to get your reservations
in. See the reservations information below. Dinner at
Pescatores promises to be awesome. Please let Gayl know
your dinner choice if you plan to attend. Gayl has sent out
the schedule of events and dinner reservations form. I am
planning to have a great time. Come and join the fun. Safe
boating to and from Victoria. Be mindful of the full moon
and minus tides. For those of us who need to check in at
Customs, they have moved the facility. Online, go to
gvha.ca/m_customs.php, to see the new location.

P.S. For the Commodore’s Cruise, the Greater Victoria Har-
bour Authority is offering us a $35 per night flat rate for ves-
sels up to 57’, including power and taxes. Mention this when
you check in. Hoo-rah! Continued on Page 3

COMMODORE’S CORNER, continued
Jim Lett, at our last board meeting before the summer boating activities, put out a general plea for folks to
step up and help with collecting donations for the world famous “Lopez Island Fireworks Show”. Please con-
sider taking an hour or two on the 4th of July to help in this very worthwhile activity. You may ask “world
famous”? Well, yes. Just last year I talked to folks that were here from Europe to see them. Please contact
Jim as soon as you can.
A reminder to check out the online calendar, and plan to attend as many events as you can. So, finish getting
your boats ready, your life jackets checked, your engines or sails ready. Don’t forget to check your signaling
devices, flares, etc., oh, and horns. Good thing I checked my horn, it didn’t work from the lower helm.
We still have a few opportunities for you to help out by hosting a cruise event. Contact Lane to offer your ser-
vices.
See you on the water. Jim
