Halfway through 2019, RADPAC has raised $503,615 from 1,591 contributors. While these are solid fundraising numbers at the midway point of a non-election year, both the dollars received and number of contributors are less than this time last year.

Outstanding Group Practices Hard Money Contributors for 2019 Already in 2019, forty-two groups (representing twenty-four states) have qualified as “outstanding practices”, which means the majority (if not all) of the radiologists in their practice contribute to RADPAC. Over the past four years, RADPAC has averaged 75+ outstanding practices per year.

Dr. Lewis’ fundraising efforts have led South Carolina to 5 straight March Chapter Challenge victories – earning her chapter $2,500 from RADPAC over that span.

Anniversary

National Cathedral

Washington, DC

RADPAC celebrated its 20th year anniversary this year by hosting its annual Gala at the historic National Cathedral in Washington, DC. In the last 20 years RADPAC has grown into one of the most influential health specialty PACs in the US and serves as the politi-cal voice of radiology on Capitol Hill. Over 300 contributors attended the event in which Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (FL-23) was presented with the ACR Congressional Award for Radiological Excellence (CARE Award) for her leadership in the fight to ensure mammography screening for women ages 40—49. The evening was topped off with a performance by the National Cathedral choir. You can view much of the evenings highlights here.

Radiology Advocacy Network Hill Day Picture Contest For a 4th year in a row, the RAN hosted a Twitter picture contest during ACR’s Hill Day. With over 500 radiologists meeting with 275 congressional offices, Capitol Hill’s halls were inundated with #Radvocates. Choosing just one picture was a feat this year be-cause the participation was such that we were a trending topic on Twitter for Wash-ington, DC area on May 22. We would like to congratulate our winners: Second-runner up: Natasha Monga, MD, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and the

Ohio State Radiological Society for “State Pride.” First-runner up: Zara Wadood, MD and Brown Radiology Residency for the

“#Swag.” 2019 Winner Khushboo Jhala, MD, MBA and the Massachusetts Radiological Socie-

ty Residents and Fellows Section for their take on “Come together” for the best photo of the day.

RAN Journal Club The RAN will develop a journal club that will meet on a quarterly basis to discuss topics/issues that en-compass advocacy and impact radiology and patient care. We are looking to identify leaders with inter-est in running and leading these topics in conversation. The club will meet via webex format so topics and discussions can be recorded for future reference. Our goal is to have the first meeting of the club in September of this year. Each of these quarterly conversations/discussions will be followed by an En-gage thread to foster more comment and participation from all of our members. Advocate of the Year Awardee Ian Weissman, DO, FACR The continuing evolution and success of the RAN would not be possible without vision-aries like Dr. Ian Weissman. His strong commitment to excellent patient care coupled with his commitment to being the voice for radiology patients and profession make him an invaluable advocate. Dr. Weissman’s presence and influence on Social Media is astounding, with almost 20,000 followers, when he speaks in support of radiology pa-tients and physicians people listen.
