PADRE’S PONDERINGS PATRONAL FEAST DAY CELEBRATIONS – Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for Mass at St. Aloysius this past Thursday. Our next patronal feast is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is celebrated on August 15. MASS AT ST. MICHAEL CEMETERY CHAPEL – There will be Mass offered at St. Michael Cemetery Chapel this Tuesday, June 26, at 6 PM. All are welcome to join us. DOES THE NORTH SIDE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL LOOK DIFFERENT? If you have traveled on Decatur Street this past week you most likely noticed that the north side of the high school is much more visible because of tree removal. The tree removal was the necessary first step of creating off-street angle parking north of the rectory and the high school. While we never like to lose our trees, one of the trees removed was rotten and had already been damaged by earlier storms. I do want to thank our tree removal crews for their generous offering of time, talent and treasure! Our parking project is projected to begin the first week of July. HIGH SCHOOL RE-SHINGLED – Due to a number of hail storms and high winds over the course of the past two years, our high school roof was in need of repair as indicated and approved of by our insurance adjuster. The new shingles are quite similar to those found on the grade school, so if you have an eye for detail you may have noticed that both buildings now “match”. GACC ANNUAL ALUMNI APPEAL – The 2018 Alumni Appeal has now reached $19,627! Thank you to all of the alumni who have already responded! Through your generosity we will be able to accomplish our first priority this year which is to carpet and replace carpet in several classrooms in both the grade school and the high school. Funds above-and-beyond the cost of the carpet will be directed toward a variety of projects which will include: refurbishing the “new” high school office; new laptops for our teachers; new toilets in the high school; and the list could continue… We are so blessed to have such faithful and dedicated alumni who take such pride in their alma mater! ST. MARY’S SPRING COLLECTION – SPRING HAS SPRUNG! –As I write this it is still officially spring, and thanks to a very generous donation to the Spring Collection this past week we have surpassed our goal of $8000 with a current total of $8297! Thank you to everyone who has so generously responded to the Spring Collection. Because we have reached our goal, I’d like to tell you that “it’s summer time and the livin’ is easy” but I know that there are still Spring Collection envelopes waiting to be dropped in the collection basket or at the parish office. We are asking that all registered members/families participate in this Spring Collection with a $10 donation for individuals or a $20 donation for a family. The Spring Collection is used for operational expenses of St. Mary’s Parish. Thanks again for your faithful support! EMHC’s AND LECTORS NEEDED – All of our parishes are again inviting parishioners to consider the possibility of sharing their time and talent in the public liturgical ministries of Lector and Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Every year the Archdiocese offers an afternoon training session for these vital ministries and then invites candidates to the Mandation Mass with Archbishop Lucas as a public confirmation of their service. If you have any questions or are interested in the possibility please contact the parish office for details. ST. MARY SERVER TRAINING THIS SUNDAY – For any one in 5th grade or older who would like to be an altar server, there will be an introductory training session this Sunday, June 24th at 8 AM in Church. LITURGICAL MINISTERS – I appreciate that the hectic nature of summer often leaves many of us feeling “unbalanced” and/or “off schedule” compared to the more routine schedule that often accompanies the school year. So here is my annual appeal to all liturgical ministers to re-check your liturgical ministry assignments at your parish throughout the summer months. I realize that there will be times when you are unable to fulfill your ministerial duties and cannot find a replacement, but when that happens would you please call the office and let us know. Thank you for your service and your consideration. ST. MARY’s FUNERAL DINNER … WOULD IT HELP IF WE CHANGED THE TITLE AND/OR DESCRIPTION? – Director? Coordinator? Facilitator? Committee? Council? The ministry can be titled in a variety of ways and need not be restricted to one individual. Would it help to know that you would NOT be responsible for doing the cooking? This does not necessarily need to be a strictly volunteer position either. The primary responsibility is making sure that we continue to offer support and hospitality to families who are mourning the loss of a loved one by providing a welcoming meal and environment. If you would be willing to consider this ministerial opportunity please contact the parish office for details.

You are remembered in prayer Each day, before beginning its workday, the Stewardship & Development Office gathers for prayer, and their prayer intention is for someone in the Archdiocese of Omaha. On Thursday, June 14th, they asked God to bless St. Aloysius Parish for faithfully carrying out the mission of the Catholic Church in Northeast Nebraska.

A Special Thanks Sister Mary Beth Prinz thanks every-one for their prayers, cards, letters and support that she has received during her illness and at the time of her 60th anniversary as a Sister. Sister sincerely regrets her physical health does not allow her to send personal messages of thanks. Sister wants all to know her continued love, prayers, thoughts and gratitude are with the people of the community.

Peace and all good. The Family of Sister Mary Beth
